I'm working on a Win7 image (WIM) that will be going on 100 similar desktop PCs and I want to complete it over this long weekend. However, the only machine at my disposal is a laptop.

Since WIMs are file based, I'm thinking that it should be perfectly okay to create the image on this laptop and deploy to the desktops. Am I correct in this thinking?

Thanks for any input.

It's best to do it on the most generic hardware you have. Just don't install any drivers on the image and let WDS or however you are deploying it handle them.

Use a virtual machine to create the base WIM, virtualbox works great for that.
