ESPN maybe coming straight to your streaming devices in the near future. The sports network is looking to provide programming via Internet television services and is presently in on-going talks with interested concerns.

Winning ESPN would be a coup for any of the internet TV services now under development. Live sporting events are a major reason many cable subscribers have resisted cutting the cord, and ESPN commands the highest subscriber fees of any cable channel

One can only hope it goes through. ESPN is, and has been, the only reason I haven't cut the cord yet.

So true. I'd gladly pay $30/month for ESPN/2/etc. Cheaper than the bundled shit I'm forced to have now :(

For those who've been waiting, Roku has a varity of private channels that stream ESPN. They may not be HD quality, but they're out there. Granted them going the official streaming route would be preferred. I was peeved I couldn't watch the Crossfit Games live and had to rely on updates being posted to Crossfit HQ's website, meanwhile ESPN 3 had all the good stuff in real-time.

I suspect ESPN is only doing this as a way of extorting more money out of the cable providers, who WILL pay up because they know how screwed they are without ESPN exclusivity.

I am fucking disgusted with cable/sat companies. The idea that to get ESPN streaming or hell HBO streaming I would have to have a fucking TV sub makes me mad. Content at the moment is fragmented to hell. You need all sorts of services to get a handful of content. All because these greedy fuckers refuse to go let us get only the channels we want.

I'd prefer that ESPN start selling direct instead of forcing the cable companies to provide ESPN to every subscriber. I never watch ESPN, yet it is the single highest cost channel in my cable bill, and I'm stuck with it because it's part of the base package.

I have to wonder that as well. Now while I'm not a big sports fan, I do understand how if ESPN can be obtained directly for most people, it will be a BIG thing

That still wouldn't get me my local Miami Heat affiliate online. :'(

If this isn't just a ploy to extort money from the cable companies in the next contract talk, it could be huge. Live sports is widely known as the main reason people don't cut the cord.

Unfortunately Verizon and Comcast will just implement data caps on our internet and the GG again. Either way....something has to be done and ESPN is the big player here.

I have to wonder what will come after streaming....the alternate to high prices..? Maybe fir awhile, but if there is money to be made.... Is just going to be trading one for the other over time
