Just got a killer deal on 32gb Corsair Vengeance kit...

If you don't know why you'd need it, you probably don't. You could check and see what your RAM usage is, but really, if you're only gaming and web surfing, you probably wouldn't need more than 8gb, maybe 16gb if you want the breathing room.

32gb is awesome for some people, but usually they have a specific use for it. If you don't know how, or why, and you don't feel like your system is running slow, then you are probably fine.

Depends on what your doing with your computer. If all you're doing is playing games then sell them and upgrade a videocard or something.. 8gb is more than enough if all you do is game. I still consider 16gb overkill for simply gaming. Most games won't even run your system to 4gb of usage.

8gb is mostly overkill still and if you aren't maxing that or even coming near then no way you need 32.

Sell it and upgrade something else or pocket the $ :)

A few things we use ram for in workstations:

- Virtual machines
- Ram Drive
- PhotoShop/etc type work
- mysql test env

Wow, memory went way up again didn't it?
I was looking at 32GB just 2 months ago and decided I didn't want to pay $220 for a kit with better timings than that one... I guess I should have pulled the trigger.

32gb is insane. i have 4gb in my desktop and game just fine, and the 8gb in my macbook is certainly under-utilized.

32gb is very legitimate for a lot of people. No, it's not for games, although I could see 4gb being a little limiting if you ever have anything else open while playing an intensive game.

Anyways... yeah, I'm glad 4gb is good for you. I would suffocate with 4gb :D

install the 32gb, allocate 24gb for a ramdisk, leave 8 for the os.
great speed running disk intensive games/graphics/video editing/cache/apps.
look for ramdisk software that has disk image backup features.

CrystalDiskMark benchmark example:
Read / Write (MB/s):
HD,1TB,7200rpm: 176 / 170
SSD,CrucialM4: 521 / 226
4GB Ramdisk: 4843 / 7219

I could not function on a daily basis with 4gb at all. heck I am sitting at 8gb usage right now with nothing but a bunch of tabs open. the other 8gb all cached too so its not going to waste. heck I would have to shut down almost everything for some games if all I had was 4gb of system ram. I would say 8gb is the very minimum for multi tasking and gaming and 16gb is just right for me. 32gb will of course be used in my next build which will probably take place in the next 6-9 months.

op I hope you have an os that can actually use more than 16gb of ram. I believe you need at least pro version of windows.

i only use the desktop for gaming, i get all my work done on the macbook so 4gb isn't really an issue. if you have a tendency of leave apps open, more ram is definitely a positive:)

+1

For certain applications a ramdisk can be a very fast.

I bought a 16gb kit for my main system (last one had 4gb) and honestly I feel like I could have just used the 4gb kit and it would have been fine. That being said I game and that's pretty much it. What game (without mods) uses the most resources stock? Just curious.
