Galaxy Note 2, whose getting one?

any one know how to get google wallet to work on vzw note 2? seen some youtube vids but it seems to have only worked with the older version 4.1. any new ways?

Anyone have issues with the battery on the Note 2? I've barely used mine today and just got a low battery alert. The first time this happened, couple days ago, I just figured I didn't get a good charge on it, but now I'm starting to wonder. Every review says this battery last for 10 hours or more with heavy use... I've barely used mine today. 2 text messages, and one look at radar when a storm was passing through. I'm going to make sure it gets a full charge when I get home and pay attention to it for the next couple days. Maybe I didn't get a good charge again?

Anyway, just checking to see if anyone has had battery issues with theirs.

What ROM? Stock?

If you're on stock...I'll bet money you're on PRL 2000.

Well did you at least check the battery stats to see what is using the most power and if the phone is properly sleeping while the screen is off?

If I ever have issues with battery on my Note 2, it's due to some rouge app on my phone running when it shouldn't be. Here lately it has been Beautiful Widgets using 100% of my CPU randomly until I catch it and kill it in a task manager. I usually catch it quickly because my phone starts warming up and I'll see it drop a few percent in a short time span.

Anyone know how to change the vibration time using default settings? it vibrates way too long for my liking. When receiving texts/phone calls. If there is no way to do it without downloading an app, I think I may have to pass on the Note 3...

For the ring/phone vibrate, you can change the vibrate pattern in the sound settings. I like to use the Heartbeat preset, but there's others and you can create your own pattern there too. For texts, I use Handscent SMS for texting, which also gives you preset vibrate patterns or lets you create your own pattern. The stock messaging app doesn't give you that ability and will be the same on any other phone unless you use a third party app to control it.

I have 71 percent left on my battery from turning it on yesterday at 5am. It's now 535 am next morning.

Haven't a clue what you are talking about. haha... Only had this phone for less then a month and still learning it.

I've been a little overzealous at closing apps not in use and running task killer apps so nothing is running in the background. I think I may have just had a bad charge. I'm just going to pay attenton over the next couple days and see if anything happens that causes a battery drain again. ... Maybe it's the ghosts in my haunted house? :D

Morning. I was wondering about a wireless charging solution for my N2. It seems I have to add a "receiver" card to the inside of the phones case. Is this the correct way to do this, or are there other options.
Thanks

A lot of people say Samsung is good at updating their flagship phones lately, of course not Nexus fast, but better than HTC, LG, Sony, etc...

Answer me this, the Note 2 is a Samsung flagship high end device, why is it still on 4.1 that it shipped with last year, and 4.2 came out in November, and now 10 months later the Note 2 still hasn't seen 4.2 update, let alone 4.3 that came out this Summer.

I understand the Note 2 wasn't going to get 4.2 update right away in November last year when it first came out, but I thought would at least be out a couple months after, maybe a few months, like 3 to 4, but never 10 months and nothing

This scares me away from Samsung phones, that a top high end phone, waits almost a year for a good update.

I had the same problem, kept waiting for the oficial release but got angry and did it myself.

No problems so far :D

TBH, 4.2 is a minor update to 4.1.2. Go to a Sprint store or play with a friend's S4 for 20 minutes. The only noticeable differences are by and large gimmicks. The 4.2 update rather should have been called 4.1.3 in my mind. The 4.3 update is great for AOSP, but I suspect that for TouchWiz and stock ROMs it should have been dubbed "4.1.4".

Yea it is aggravating....but TWiz ROMs simply suck compared to the stock UI, ugly and non customizable and shit is hidden. The updates from 4.1.x->4.2 are good for UI a la notification tray, but you'll never see them in TouchWiz. Even under AOSP the differences from 4.2.2->4.3 are minimal to the end user in UI.

As far as why? Quite simple. Awful timing. Because Samsung completely rewrites Touchwiz (even renaming references and where they are and how they work) from one firmware of TouchWiz to another....Samsung forces themselves to root-canal every firmware release for no real good reason it seems to anyone outside Samsung, as even patches are broken. Now it takes them 6 months to release an update due to this....which by the time they're ready to test-Google has ANOTHER firmware out. When 4.2 is a minor update to 4.1, and 4.3 just gets released....why bother continuing internal work on 4.2?

Would the Note 2 be a decent upgrade over the S3? My work cell phone is available for an upgrade and I currently have an S3 but I want a much bigger phone and am on Verizon. The Note 3 would be my choice but don't know if my boss will approve a $300 phone upgrade, $200 upgrade is what we normally do.

By a lot of people, don't you mean one single fanboy? Samsung's "flagship track record"... If you really think about it, with Samsung dominating android market, why do they even need to do anything? All these gimmicky apps that they have to update would probably take longer as well, especially when these gimmicks are the cause of a lot of review negativity due to impreciseness, lag, and/or complete uselessness. HTC Sense 5 isn't completely innocent either, but at least it's already smooth and fast even on their gimmicks Blink and Zoe. Not much to update. HTC is planning on updating all One to 4.3 by end of September. Not bad for their first unified device.

4.2 over is a MASSIVE update over 4.1 for just one reason "Group Messaging / Texts"

The Note 2 can not do Group texts stock like a Nexus 4 can, or any phone running 4.2.2. And I hate using third party messaging apps.

Underdogs keeps the top dog in check. Underdogs almost guarantees to be more innovative and supportive of their users. Currently Samsung is underdog of Apple, and I would say Samsung is more innovative than Apple right now with their gimmicks. Just like HTC is more innovative than Samsung, with gimmicks that don't suck. And Motorola has probably the most innovative phone right now with the Moto X. Now that Samsung is the top of the Android mountain, it's only downhill from here.

You can almost always get a note 2 for $200 or less on amazon. Personally I would wait for the Note 3 shouldn't be too long.

I dont share the same point of view as you do :) I HATE group messages.

i don't know about you, but you know what i may hate more than androids stock messaging system? receiving random texts from people clearly not directed towards you back and forth between multiple people. especially over a long period of time.

I realize the Note 3 will be out probably in the next month or so, but I don't know if my company will give me the ok for a $300 phone, which is why I am looking at the Note 2. I should add that my company pays for my phone and everything is done via our company account with Verizon so buying elsewhere is not an option

I recently got to do a side by side comparison of my S3 with a person at work with an S4. To be honest we could barely see a difference. Loading web pages were the same speed, and even though the S4 has a higher 1080p resolution, even when looking at web pages closely, we couldn't see a difference in clarity. The only difference that we could noticeably see was in picture quality, the S4's pictures were much nicer and clearer.

I am thinking that although the Note 3 will have higher specs than the Note 2, for the things I use my phone for most, internet browsing, I probably won't notice the difference between the two as well.

My question is, how much of an upgrade is the Note 2 over the S3? Hardware wise it will have the same screen resolution, more RAM, a better cpu (my dual core vs the Note 2 quad core) and better gpu so it should be a nice upgrade (along with the bigger screen), correct?

Will be holding off for the US unlocked version since I don't know if the international lte bands works with us frequencies. But I will definitely be replacing my S3 with this unless there happen to be something coming out within the same timespan that is at least 5 inches and have something neat like the new a15 quads or a significantly better camera. S pen is nice and all but I'm getting this for the screen only.

So Note 2 has better specifications than S3 ??

Considering the S3 uses a S4 (non pro) and the Note 2 uses a pretty buf Exynos Soc, plus the screen is WAY nicer, battery life blows it and most phones out of the water, plus S-Pen support. It also got released 6+ months after the S3.

Didn't think this was news still?

I'm currently on the fence myself between a Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy S4 Active (just something about that device I really like). Not sure which one to get, and I know the Galaxy Note 3 is most likely going to be announced in a few weeks, supposedly with a 5.9" proper full HD (1920x1080) panel, most likely AMOLED once again, and some improvements in the tablet capabilities as well (and more RAM, more space, etc).

Decisions decisions... if I could only get that Flame Orange version of the Galaxy S4 Active I'd probably go for it:

That thing is gorgeous but it's only available (the color) for the International version of the GS4A and of course the price for me here in the US to get one would be like $900+ so, there goes that idea.

Wish the Galaxy Note 2 or even the upcoming 3 was available in such colors, geez. I know I can get a case with a similar color scheme but that just seems like a waste to me.

Maybe Google and Motorola's decision with the Moto X to give customers the choice of colors with Moto Maker will "bleed" off the idea to other manufacturers that customers really do want more choice in the colors available. I wouldn't mind having a flat black GN2 with a yellow color accent scheme... that would be pretty sick. :)

I'm actually pretty much without clues when it comes to mobiles and tablets :D

I own a Note 2, and had an S3 before that. I recently had a chance to see a friend's S4 and the jump from Note 2's s-stripe 720p to the S4's "unsure of rgb layout" 1080p is pretty massive. Not only is the color the perfect temperature (Note 2 is either in your face w/ color or too washed out), but the detail especially text is incredible.

I love my Note 2, but I get hand cramps and my pinky gets numb after awhile. I hate carrying it around cause it destroys my pocket...granted, I do use an Otterbox, so that goes a long way towards making it massive. Though even naked, it gives me hand cramps.

That said, I have poor vision and the extra .5 inches goes along way towards making sites more readable for me. If I had the choice between S4 and Note 3, I honestly don't know which I would choose. Also, I do use the s-pen quite a bit.

not sure why you quoted me?

Yeah, I wasn't very clear, was I. ;)

You mentioned that the jump in screen quality from s3 to n2 was way nicer. I jist meant that the jump from n2 to s4 was also way nicer. When I got the N2 I thought this was the best it gets. But the S4 blows it away.

The screen on the s4 is nicer then the note 2, tho it is smaller but higher res. I didn't like the s4 field of view, the camera seemed like I had tunnel vision

"Blows it away" is really pushing it. Maybe it was the screenprotector the s4 I've played with it had on, but I was underwhelmed in the extreme in my time playing with an s4.

I agree. I just had my Note 2 next to an S4 yesterday while my wife was looking at phone. At full rightness, we couldn't tell much of a difference in sharpness or clarity, which I would think you would with the large difference in PPI between the two phones. I compared them on some web pages and poking around the launchers. Maybe it's the Pentile vs Non-Pentile because I could tell a large difference between my Gnex's pentile 720p AMOLED display and my Note 2's RGB AMOLED display; the Note 2's display was noticable sharper and much brighter over the Gnex's despite its considerably lower PPI.

But I would need to have my hands on the S4 for more than a few mins to compare them to be sure. But at first glance, it definitely didn't seem much better than my Note 2 to me.

Its worth noting that I'm extremely finicky about my displays. Most folks don't notice or don't care to see what I see.

And what I see is FAR sharper text and much more accurate color on the S4. Neither phone had a screen protector on.

How much do you guys think a Note 2 on Verizon that's in perfect shape would go for on craigs? I have an upgrade available to me and I'm debating about the note 3...

In perfect condition, with EVERYTHING included, I would say from $375-425. If it's missing things, or has ANY defects, the price will drop incrementally. Especially given the upcoming release of the Note 3, prices will fall.

Wow! That high? I would be happy with $300 to offset the cost of the new phone. But in addition to never being dropped, I have high quality screen protectors, an otterbox commuter, a spare battery and its charger. Granted I will need all that for the new phone.

The only niggle is that I'm not unhaopy with the note 2.
