Linux and Windows 8 don't like each other

At least for a friend of mine.

Anyone know the answer to this riddle?:

A word of warning to anyone considering installing Linux on their Windows 8 machine--don't. Wait until Linux makers figure out a key or workaround to the UEFI problem. Windows 8 is rigged to think any other operating system is a virus and it bricks your machine. However, if someone has figured out a fix, let us know!

Thanks!

It is difficult but not impossible. Windows 8 and UEFI has definitely hindered Linux installs and even Windows 7 reversion installs.

If using secure-boot then take ownership of your keys and sign your own stuff. Better still IMO if BIOS has an option to disable it then do just that.

I found it easier to set everything to non-UEFI, as it was a headache trying to get everything working correctly.

I actually did get it all set up in UEFI mode, eventually. But then about 2 weeks later, Windows 7 did an update, and knocked out the ability to get back into Linux. I couldn't figure out how to get GRUB UEFI going again, so I reinstalled in non-UEFI mode... best decision ever

I'm going to move this comment since it's not relevant to the OP.
