It's nice to see a company actually hiring people versus the trend of massive layoffs we've seen over the last few years.

Amazon today announced it is creating more than 5,000 new full-time jobs in its U.S. fulfillment network to meet growing customer demand. Median pay inside Amazon fulfillment centers is 30 percent higher than that of people who work in traditional retail stores—and that doesn't even include the stock grants that full-time employees receive, which over the past five years have added an average of 9% to base pay annually. Amazon employs over 20,000 full-time employees in its U.S. fulfillment centers.

Yes, slaving away in a warehouse packaging stuff. Great news!

Better than having it outsourced to India or Mexico. Tell me would you rather package stuff in a warehouse and eat or starve on the streets?

I'm curious if anyone here actually looks at the financials of this company...

Yes, lets all celebrate 5,000 new menial labor jobs with a national-level news story.

wow, fuck these guys!

Amazon offers employees innovative programs like Career Choice, where it will pre-pay up to 95% of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon

Now you to can can pack boxes in non-air conditioned warehouses, for less than minimum wage, and crappy hours.

Yes, I realize the guys here at the [H] like to post company press releases, usually for pay.

Excuse me?

Did you just accuse us of taking money to post news items / stories?

Apparently so, because if you post ANY press release according to his comment, you are clearly in the pockets of that company lol. You must be in the pocket of just about all electronic manufactures and/or any company that sells them!!!!!

wow, fuck these guys!

They'll only pay $3,000/yr for 4 years, only towards an associate's degree, and only after you've already worked for them for 3 years. Anybody that would qualify for that is likely already getting everything paid for with Pell grant money anyhow.

That is the problem, they wouldn't starve when the government tit is always open for suckling. Too many Americans have shit for a work ethic, and are now entitled to things the grandparents were happy to work hard for.

Since Americans aren't really buying a whole lot of more stuff, this is more like XX many thousand jobs in failing brick & mortar and online retailers were shifted to Amazon.

Starting wage for Amazon order fulfillment jobs is around $13-14 an hour.

So many bitter doodz on a Monday morning.

Unfortunately, I think most of these jobs are only replacing some of the jobs lost at physical stores. The amazon business model allows for more sales with less employees. I am not exactly sure that this is really good news for the average worker.

This. Who knows how many people are out of jobs BECAUSE of Amazon?

With how lazy and shiftless some of the posters in this thread are I feel sorry for Amazon.

5,000 fulfillment jobs, 2,000 customer service jobs, all in the US. Not to mention all the money they are spending building massive amounts of square footage in Seattle. These guys are getting it done and still people find reasons to whine.

Haters gonna hate. How is this bad news? They are creating jobs...people will complain about anything.

Exactly, like a bunch of spoiled children... There are a plethora of folks out of work, this is great news. Also, there's no point in bashing big business either because they didn't put the little guys out of business. We did, by voting with our greenbacks. Simply put, most of us will purchase an item at the beat price we can find, that won't change for most of us, myself included.

You want to live in Grand Forks, ND for a customer service job? Enjoy the winters. :D

I wonder what that +5000 fulfillment jobs works out to in increased dildos per hour shipment rate?

Wow, unemployment is still 7.6 (doctored numbers) and yall are bitching about a company creating MORE jobs!!!!

Yall need to get real, people need jobs, any job creation is a positive.

It is amazing how many people are uninformed like this. Amazon does far more than just ship products. A lot of these new jobs are actually highly tech related. They have huge contracts in the government as well as business to provide advanced computing services. You should read up on AWS, as it is currently one of the biggest drivers of their hiring trend. Also many of these jobs are in the Herndon, VA area now, as they are quickly expanding there. They also have 4 other main locations where they hire outside of Washington State.

The US used to be a country that *made* quality products. Now we celebrate when a major company creates a bunch of menial labor jobs shipping Chinese made junk, because working in a warehouse is something to be proud of! Lookie here! Some $10/hr jobs! Its better than fast food isn't it? How quickly you all have forgotten when Amazon was in the news for horrible/unsafe conditions in these warehouses.

I am not HATING on new jobs, I am hating on everyone stroking Amazon's dick like they did something really laudable here.

Where is your goddamned perspective?

Its a global marketplace. America is finding new ways to compete, and, believe it or not, shit jobs are not where the innovation is.

Yes I did. You expect people to believe Microsoft (as an example) doesn't pay you guys to post their cut and paste marketing shit? Literally, cut and paste press releases of obvious marketing-drone material? Do I need to find some examples?

Need I go on? That some highlights from a couple of months and you guys have doing this shit for years. Did you think no one would notice? If the average [H] reader doesn't believe me they can do their own looking. Go ahead and do a search in the Front Page News forum, with the word Microsoft in the title. Make up your own minds about the "quality" and usefulness of that marketing spam.

Between your obvious marketing shill-ing and your inane commentary on articles (most of which you don't even bother reading) this place has gone so far downhill you need a team of dwarven miners to find it. Never mind the rapidly increasing stupidity and ignorance of new membership and rampant misogyny... go ahead and ban me, this place stinks.

Oh yeah, delete this post too, can't have this kind of thing laying around for people to read.

Maybe I am just old and cynical, but I miss the days of the old [H] where over clocking and technology were its forte, not just another content-farming shit hole. Good-bye and good riddance.

How many jobs have you created? Ever?

There is your perspective.

A tech news forum that happens to post all of the tech news press releases, doesn't look like marketing spam to me, especially when Steve posts plenty of things that DONT give a company a positive image. I don't think Microsoft paid for all those articles about how the Xbox One was going to be a joke of a release.

But who will fund the dwarven miners?
