This is not something you get to see every day, and to tell the truth, it makes you feel just a wee bit insignificant in a cosmic sort of way. Just think all seven Billion of us humans are crowded onto that little tiny speck of dust hanging in space. The shot was made by the Cassini spacecraft several weeks ago. Pretty awesome stuff.

Basically earth is invisible outside of solar system. Chance of alien visiting is close to zero.

Just like all the planets we've seen...and we might not even be 1/1,000,000,000,000th as advanced as some other life out there.

Gotta love how people always think that alien life just has to be advanced. It's quite possible that there's may nothing out there, and if there is, it's also possible that it's dumber than a box of rocks.

We aren't the center of the universe, there's likely both, things more advanced, and things less advanced.

There are planets out there far older then ours.

“Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Our DNA is only about 5% different from the chimps and we were able to travel to the moon and build a particle accelerator while the chimps could barely invent primitive tools. Physically we're not special either when compared to the chimps, same number of brain and yet the intellectual difference is possible.

Any species who's 5% different from us in that same direction will be so intellectually superior we can't even imagine the stuff they can do the same way a chimp can't comprehend even the simple stuff we do such as basic maths.

So there's nothing in nature that prevents the existence of more intelligent species out there.

I don't know, I thought we came here from Mars or something.

Someone's paid attention to Neil Degrasse Tyson.

This one was taken by Cassini in 2006.
Earth is in this pic as well.

...why are we so bright? And how do they know we're not actually the white dot next to it? How do we know that blue dot isn't Thanos?

It just looks fake to me (the pic with Saturn/the rings), the colours and everything seems hand drawn/touched up.

Perhaps you should stop looking at those digital spacescapes people make in Photoshop for awhile and visit Nasa's page more often :)

That picture looks like a drawing. Sun is just a tiny little spot. There are no other source of light around Saturn.

Just think, what will the next intelligent race on Earth will think about us in 1 million years or so, once they get advanced enough to figure out they were not the first intelligent species?
