im running teh i5 2500k stock im looking to upgrade and want opinions plz. Should i go i7 3770k or is there any advantage to teh 2011 socket and gaming\speeds wise? I know i could overclock but prefer not to if i can.

I do lots of hl2 deathmatch, Fortress Forever, TFC of course and flight sims.....

tankies in advance :D

Just get a good cooler and overclock the 2500k. The 3770 isn't really going to help much for games, same with a socket 2011 processor. If you are doing lots of encoding or video editing the 3770 or 3930 will be more useful, if you are just gaming stick with what you've got.

If you're only gaming, 2011 is completely pointless unless you're running cfx or sli.

I've got a 2500k on a corsair h60 cooler and i'm hitting 4.4 ghz with no voltage increases or anything keeping it all stock except the multiplier.

Take a step to the new 1150 platform and get the 4770K. The price for the latest gen processor really can't be beat.

Sure it can. By simply overclocking his CPU, his gaming performance will match that of a 4770k in nearly every single game out there and won't cost him anything.

I've got an i5-2500k and feel it is more than powerful for today's games. My motherboard recently took a sh*t and took my processor with it. Just got the processor today and hope to have an RMA'd board soon to begin overclocks again.

The GPU is the one botteneck on my system. I'll keep saving for when a processor is really a nice upgrade for me like when I moved on from the Q6600 to the i5.

If you don't want to OC, then get the 4670 or 4770. Haswell is slightly faster than both ivy and sandy at stock, because of a bump in IPC. The 1150 motherboard offers some benefits over the older 1155 platform as well.
