Hot Deals at Microcenter. 25% off open box!

Anyone try Tustin, CA yet?

Did you end up giving it a shot? I was thinking about driving down there but it's about 45 minutes away.

I'm also a little uneasy if their open box details on the site say no returns or exchanges (not even 30 day).

Where are you seeing this? Just two weeks ago I returned an open boxed video card that wasn't working; I didn't run into any issues. Or is it just the specific item that you're looking at that says no returns?

Specific items showed no returns. When vieweing MC's site for one of their open box items, an area on the website below the item listing expands to show details of the open box status [edit: the area expands when I click on the open-box item link]. It will show incomplete, missing parts, sold as is, or something else along those lines. Some of the ones missing parts or incomplete have a 30 day return option. Almost all show manufacturer's warranty still applies. However, some of the sold as is ones show no return option (in-store return that is).

I'm thinking that if an RMA would be honored then it might make it worth more of a risk. I just wouldn't want to jump on one of these and have it dead on arrival. What do you think?

That is the general risk you take with an open-box item (any open-box item) anywhere, whether refurbished or not; it's not unique to MicroCenter. It's up to the buyer to determine if an individual open-box item can cut the ketchup (let alone the mustard) - I have been more than pleasantly suprised how well my particular open-box GTX has worked out with the rest of my hardware, as I actually did have serious doubts (mostly in terms of how my hodgepodge of hardware otherwise would handle the GPU change).

My local MC has a 680 reference/blower style card, a 7970 Ghz edition, and a few 670s from the looks of it. If the 25% was offered it would bring them all down sub-$300 to that same $265-295 range give or take. I've been thinking about upgrading my 4850x2 Sapphire card to a 760 2GB (24" LCD @ 1920x1200 currently) because I didn't want to stomach the $400 770 cost. However, to get even a reference evga blower style 680 for close to the same price as a 760, I'm starting to think it might be worth the risk. If that gets snatched up then I could also spring for the 7970 Ghz edition.

Nope. You're closer than I am. Its about 1.5 hours for me :(

I actually like the blower on my EVGA GTX680s. There are a little bit louder than DirectCU cooling but at least the hot air does not get trapped inside.

I reached the store over the phone. Operations manager said that the cards are yellow tag, not orange tag, and the prices are not negotiable. The 25% was only for yellow tag items (which is what we've heard in this thread).

I'm not sure it's worth the drive to try to sweet talk my way into the deal with the manager. The 680 however is off the list of available open box items, so I wonder if someone got the 25% off deal or if they just took the discount.

Just a heads up for those around Boston area, I was able to get two of the MSI Twin Frozer 680 for $270 each at Microcenter in Cambridge yesterday via manager override.

The cashier also included information for $15 rebate on the GPU.

They come with 30 day return policy and full manufacturer's warranty.
