Hi, I have an opportunity to buy 2 Gtx 770's for $300 each. They are brand new and unused. My current setup has 2 Gtx 670's. I believe the resale value of 2 Gtx 670 is about $500 (correct me if I am wrong but I have replaced the original cooler with Antec Kuhler 620). Is it worth it to spend an extra $100 for may be 20% performance increase? I game at 2560x1440 and mostly play BF3 and soon BF4. No trouble with frame rate using my current setup.

I seriously doubt you're going to get $250 per card.... When you can get 760's cheaper than that now.

The 760 replaced the 660 Ti, not the 670. They have roughly the same power draw, and the 670 is faster at stock. Similar OC potential as well.

Also as to the OP's original question, the 770's are basically slightly faster 680's. The question is, do you consider OC'd 680 SLI to be worth $100. You probably won't notice it in almost any games though.

The 760 is in between the 660Ti and 670 as far as performance and not far from a noticeable amount towards the 670 (They're about the same) 8% gain over my card which is inline with 670's. Why would you drop $250 on a used card when you can spend the same money, or cheaper when the weekend deals popup and have a free game you can flip and a new card you're not going to notice a difference with. Doesn't make sense.

I just went from 670 sli to 770 sli and I sure noticed a performance impact but at 5670x1080.... and the 770s are quieter. I was on the fringe of playability with some games at this res and had to make some IQ compromises to keep the fps up but now things are a lot smoother. I guess if you feel the need for the extra power for 100 or so bones it's not a bad upgrade. But getting between 400 and 450 is more likely for your 670s..

They are similar, but the 670 is still faster. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GeForce_GTX_760_TF_Gaming/27.html

First look at:
760 vs 670 stock (7%) difference

Then
670 vs 680 stock. (9%) difference

The 760 and 670 are similar, and so is the the 670 to the 680, yet the 680 still commands a higher price and the 670 too.

Either way, he can still easily get $250 for his 670's. If you're not averse to buying used, buying new doesn't get you much especially if you're buying an evga or other serial number based warranty card. Most people won't need any accessories. Also 760's haven't been dropping in price as far as I can recall because they just came out.

The difference between a 760 and 7970 ghz edition is only 17%. And yet they are priced differently.

He'll get $250 easy for his 670's regardless of what you think.

its about the market. the market for used high end video card is not that great.
its used, you still have possibility of running into problems especially if you decide to overclock.
760 new, new warranty, longer period
670 used, less time on warranty.
670 might have that 5-7% edge but it also sucks up more power
760 with same power draw with equal performance.
760 comes with better coolers at a 10 dollar premium or even less in some cases.
670 you paid more for better coolers from stock.

I dont know if he will sell a single 670 for 250 easily if its the stock variety, aftermarket cooler probably

either way first world problems :)

if you can get 500$ for your current setup then 770 for 2x300$ would be worth it for renewed warranty and increase resell value when maxwell hits.

Thanks for the reply all. I think I will stay with the current set up for now. I can wait for the next gen I suppose.

i wouldnt pay 300$ to get 770s. same architecture. its a rip, wait till next season and get a decent increase in performance

400ish extra shaders and extra texture units and faster memory... Mines at ~8ghz... It's not a bad upgrade for 100 bux if you need the extra power...

$300 per brand new 770 is a great deal. I would pull the trigger if I were you then try to resale your 670s.

If that is a legitimate deal, I have no clue why you wouldn't upgrade to the 770s....The 600 Series cards are just continuing to plummet in value while the 700s are newly released with a brand new warranty and increased performance. However, I have a hard time believing anyone could get actual brand new 770s for $300 each since they are $400-$420 cards minimum.
