Actually Google Ads was down. I know several sites that were messed up too outside Google and eventually I realized they were all the sites that showed Google ads.
 
I heard that the biggest search term on Bing to day was "Is Google Down?"

Not having ads makes a site messed up? I think most people would prefer it that way.
 
It's not the lack of ads, but the involvement that Googleads has with the framework of the websites. I hit more than a couple forums that use Google to gate in ads as part of the forum rendering. They were all messed up.

West Virginia, North Carolina, Nebraska & Georgia. Some guy with a crappy blog implied it was a Comcast issue since that's what he was using but it was internal to Google at one of their Atlanta NOCs.
 
Jeff Goldblum was rumored to have taken them down. When approached for comment Jeff said "I gave it a cold".
