Don't use any orbs for "crafting." Save them and buy what you need. You'll regret it otherwise.

Depends on the item and depends on the orbs. I don't craft with exalts or GCP. But I've put together a few 5L items, boots/gloves/helmets and jewellery that saved me some currency in the end. Just don't sit there with a pile of currency trying to make something unless you have a surplus and/or are fully prepared for failure. Set aside an amount considered an "acceptable loss", then stop if you don't get anything out of it. If you tally up what you consider an acceptable loss, go see if someone is selling whatever gear you're trying to make for cheaper.

The chance to make anything of endgame quality is very low. Don't do it unless you like to gamble. But, if you're sitting on a high level 6L white chest or similar... do it!

the most important whites to be looking for at any level are any RGB 3L (= chromatic), 6S (=6 jewelers), and of course 5L / 6L. You can farm up quite a bit of chromatics fast if you pay attention in an xp/loot group. Other popular items are whites for chancing, glorious plate, occultist's vestments, etc.

I collected up every gold ring I found and after ~70 chancing them 1-5 at a time got a near perfect andvarius ring.

Seriously? So jealous...

I've been chancing damn near since i started the game. So has my roommate and other buddy. None of us has never gotten a unique.

I think this is bad advice, but to each his own. My advice: do not EVER use a single orb on anything. Sell everything and buy what you need. Yes, it takes tons of fun out the game, but it's even less fun when you realize how much currency you have wasted over periods of time with nothing to show for it. Unfortunately, that's just the way the game is designed.

Tried to check out the beta, and both times after 10 or so minutes I got a BSOD->memory dump->forced restart.

Wow, yea... no. I hope you're not being serious, but sadly I know you are.

The only orbs I'd ever use would be alchs on a 4l or something to get your main skill going in merciless. I've personally been burned too many times. Most people will probably give the same advice. Orbs are for gambling. Sadly, I've won more times in slot machines than I have in POE. POE is actually a great mirror of life and work. You have to fight off the desire for instant gratification every time you log on. Then you grind for days/weeks/months to get something worth while.

You can get by with alchs, transmutes and alterations. That's true. That's a bit different than saying people shouldn't use any currency ever. You need to roll flasks depending on your build and roll a few decent rares for leveling. Otherwise, I'd agree that people should save their exalts and GCP. You need to have a specific purpose and a plan for using high level currency.

It's not worth considering doing the regal/exalt/eternal thing unless you have a ton of currency and have at least a couple characters in the level 90 range.

And even if you have tons of currency, it doesn't mean dick. Watching Krip use 20 exalts and end up with an 11% fire resist roll?

Yea that's pretty fucked.

After watching that video I've come to the conclusion that this game was designed to never be beaten.

haven't played since... but that's also because all i have to do is farm docks. I see no reason to do maps anymore since i get more out of docks.

Yea, the game isn't meant to be "beaten" because it is an unfinished game. TBH, if you hit level 80 and are able to survive the majority of maps, you have completed the game. Anything past that is just min/maxing and you should expect min/maxing to be a tedious and difficult process.

Nah i'm still just trying to progress to end-game. Still never have run any 69+ maps. Still don't have my resists fixed. Still have a chest with 133 energy shield lol

That's what happens when you get a lvl 40 chest to roll HP with Fire, Cold, Lightening and Chaos resist.

You can have a couple 69-70 maps or just join in when I run them. It's a lot more fun than doing Docks over and over. You'll have to put up with my minions, though, since I don't really care if people like them or not. :D

That'd be cool to run some maps. Your minions will probably keep you pretty safe yea?

also, Twisted--let me know when you'll be playing and i'll hop on and give you that sword!

what spectres do you run and what gems? i like the flame sentinels but 3 of them really make it hard to see wtf is going on, so i use tittys a lot but they die a lot on maps

and to the guy above me yes my minions keep me safe 3 spectres 9 zombies and i a lot of skellys helps a lot. my witch is 76 and i don't die to much but im still gearing up so once i get good gear i should be fine

So I was able to trade for a Kaom's Primacy. I only used about 8 jeweler's orbs to get it to 5S, but I couldn't get to a 4L, much less a 5L. :( I also found a great 6S sword (white) but need so many orbs of alteration and fusing it isn't even funny.

Is there a way to farm for specific orbs, higher drop rates, etc? Or is it all just RNG? I'm up to 3300 DPS now, but I still get owned in content close to my own level. I'm 63 right now and the Weaver ate me alive. I'm pretty sure it's due to my very low armor; I need better gear, and once I get to Iron Reflexes in a few levels my survivability should jump. My resistances (other than chaos) are all ~65% in merciless. (Also, I'm sure my weaver issues were due to the chaos dmg).

As for maps, I hear you all talking about them but I have no idea what they really are or how you get them at this point.

Ahh damn i thought you were looking for swords. I have a Kaom's Primacy i can't rid of too =P

You're right though. The amount of orbs you need to even get 5-L is not a laughing matter. Realizing the absurdity of the chances really put a sour taste in my mouth.

There is no way to farm specific orbs. The only thing you can do is stack +Quantity gear and hope for the best... which is why i've been farming docks. I got up to 161% quantity and see orbs drop fairly often.

Maps are another item type that drops in higher areas. They're exactly like items in that they have mods which can appear on them. There are Cartographer's Chisels which are akin to Glassblower's Baubles which also drop, and are used to increase the Quality of maps. You can use currency on maps too, just like items.

So say you have a white Ledge map. Throw an Orb of Transmutation on it, then you'll get a couple rolls. You take it to a zone which opens up when you beat the game and consume the map to open up 6 portals to the area. Going through a portal consumes it, so if you die a bunch you'll eventually not be able to return.

In return for the mods which appear on maps (stuff like, Players are Cursed with Elemental Weakness. or Monsters attacks Chain) you get bonus +Quantity inside the entire map. Adding quality to maps through Chisels has a 1:1 ratio of Quality to Quantity.

There are rare maps too, which just makes them harder by adding more mods. You get higher quantity as a result.

I start with 3 flame sentinels since they only take a few minutes to gather, then replace them with fire or chaos alchemists and or 3 shotting chaos constructs, depending on the map. Titty bitches need too much time to wind up their gattling barbs to stay alive well. They are stationary when firing bursts.

For gems, mostly just minion damage and life. I swap in a resist gem if it's a nasty elemental dmg map. Otherwise, I run them pretty vanilla. No life leech or GMP.

Merciless Catacombs is a good place to start finding lvl 66 maps.

Today's news update is a quick one about the 0.11.2 patch. We're expecting to deploy it early next week, probably on Monday or Tuesday (New Zealand time). It will include many bug fixes, a revamp of the Ranger part of the passive skill tree, changes to monster accuracy and evasion, some new Unique items, a couple of new microtransactions and maybe an unannounced new non-gameplay feature :)

New patch coming next week. I'm excited for the Ranger revamp. Hopefully it will improve my build a little bit.

Was online a few ago one of the devs spoke about around October the game ends beta and before that date 4 new acts will be put into the game to give it 2x more content on regular maps. Sounds good to me! I love this type of genre game and even though diablo 3 is this genre it just plain sucks my opinion so happy to have POE !

GGG love teasing the fans that way, lol. Can't wait to see what the new unannounced feature will be

Their goal has been to "release" the game with 4 acts completed, followed by an additional 4 acts as they support the game over the years. Unless their team numbers have drastically changed I don't believe they are planning to exit beta in October with 8 acts ready to play. They might have meant that Act 4 would be put into the game though.

How will the addition of the acts affect level scaling? Will act 4 on one difficulty overlap act 1 on the next or will they redistribute levels?

Act 3x will go live for/before the end of Beta. Act 4 will be end of year or next year.

It will be reshuffled. They have reworked xp scaling per zone several times. It went very smoothly with the introduction of Act 3.

My claw shadow is now in official rape-dps (IDGAF about your trigger, fems); but my survival is beyond zero. Negative 40-60 in all resists, only 1.1k hp, 300armor total, 27% evasion, and acrobatics as my so-called saving grace. Talk about a gear depend playstyle. Until I triple my evasion and get my resists sorted I'm a ticking time bomb.

Btw, it's extremely fun + frustrating.

Indeed I am. There's an issue with creative sound cards? Wouldn't that affect a majority of people playing the game?

The vast majority of players use on board. I have a Creative card and can confirm --softwareaudio works perfectly.

Yeah, have to use the -softwareaudio switch with a Creative X-Fi Titanium or my system bluescreens after about 5-10 minutes. Was expecting for them to have fixed it by now but unfortunately not.

Cool, I came in after act 3 was included so I don't know how they changed it. Will they slow down leveling so maps are still around the same level, or increase the level that maps are normally accessible?

I also only really started playing this game after the last wipe. So act 3 was already in.

When they went from 2 to 3 acts, did they increase the amount of passive points you got over the course of the game? or did they change some quest rewards from the previous acts in order to make room for the quests in act 3 which give you points?

Some quest rewards were redone, but there are more available passives at this point, too.

What level are you? This is like insta gib territory for merc lol

So I now have about 4500 dps, but that puts me at about 1800 HP, I'm not sure at armor/evasion, they're a few thousand each. My resists are all 65-75% in merciless except chaos, which is -60%, but I still feel squishy as hell in Act3 merciless. I can't run anything even close to my actual level (66). My toon's name is Landragoran; any critique on gear would be welcome.

I could get a huge DPS (and/or survivability) if I just could get my 6S to roll right. It just isn't cooperating and I've gone through an ungodly amount of alteration and fusing orbs trying. :( I could add back a LS gem, or 2 more DPS gems. Being at 18% LS would be a bit ridiculous and would hopefully mean I can tank much more; that combined with faster attacks, stealing life faster, would be a huge help.

So when in the bloody hell are they going to officially release this game? Its been in Beta for 2+ years now.....

Also: where can I find what gems are drop only, and which are wanted/worth currency? I'm looking to trade for a reduced mana gem; I don't want to be ripped off. I've also picked up quite a few, such as greater multiple projectiles, that I'd like to sell for a fair amount.

6Linking an item is quite literally as likely as winning state lotto. 5Linking is really tough, too.

Anyway, if you're on this weekend I can help you out a bit. I have some pure armor and eva/armor items that may be upgrades. I don't think I will be on tonight. Tacos and Manny's Pale ale Thursday and all.

Link me your shit when you see me, I probably have some ring upgrades, too. I also have 3 stash tabs of skill gems.
