The Last of Us. Did you get it? How do you like it?

Just finished this game. Best. Game. Ever. 11/10. Fuck the haters.

Also ending was phenomenal and even the walk up the mountain I expected them to not fuck it up, and Naughty Dog didn't. I loved it!

I'm more of a pc gamer, but recently bought a ps3 on craiglist for 100 bucks and came demon souls. I already bought uncharted 3, but wife is always renting movies from redbox and yesterday while standing there looking at the movies i notice "games" so I saw the last of us 2 bucks a day. So today I rented it and playing it now lol. Lets see if i can beat it for 10 bucks lol which is 5 days.

I was about 15% into the game but started over last night so my friend could see it from the beginning. He's an XBOX owner...not a fan boy by any means, but that's what he has and knows. He said he didn't think he had ever seen a game on the 360 with graphics like those in The Last of Us.

Is there anything that looks this good on the 360 or for that matter is there anything else on the PS3 that looks this good?

Closest thing is probably Uncharted lol. Naughty Dog are pretty much the masters in terms of getting all they can out of the ps3.

Can't wait to see what they do for the ps4.

Won't be much more then anyone else. PS4 doesn't have that special gpu chips like the PS2/PS3 has. Which was a bitch to program for.

Well, I just finished the game on the weekend. Took me around 21 hours or so according to the save game time counter. It's cool how they have stats about how you got kills, how many times you died etc. so check that out if your interested.

Overall, I was satisfied with the game. I haven't seen any discussion about the multi-player in this thread yet. I still have yet to redeem the code to play online myself. I can't help but thinking that it must be a tacked on extra after playing through he awesome single player but who knows...

From what I've read on various game review websites, the multiplayer is actually well done. I haven't played it yet though, so I can't really confirm or deny that

I saw a interview with some the the guys from ND where they were talking about how, with TLoU, they were working at the very limits of what the PS3 can do. They mentioned how at some points they were literally at the point where the game would crash with just a few more bytes of memory being used.

Friends and coworkers rave about the online. I'm still working on the campaign. They seemed impressed how much it feels just like the single player but with smarter enemies.

IGN seemed to like it too -

So I just tried online tonight, completely got my ass handed to me.

It was like I could shoot people 3-4 times and not kill them, yet I'd get hit just once/twice and I was dead, wtf?

Also you can't use cover, like in the single player game? Every time I was behind cover and then hit aim it would just throw me into aim and I'd be looking at the cover , instead of popping out over it or beside it, like Joel does in the single player game, which completely destroys it for me, howt he heck are you meant to utilize cover if something as simple as aiming your gun doesn't pop you up over the cover?

I don't normally play console games, but gave this one a try. Got it at Redbox. Played for about an hour on the PS3. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Crappy graphics, of course, and I'm enjoying Far Cry 3 WAY more. Meh.

Not sure what all the fuss is about? Well clearly the rest of us are retarded. If you could provide a list of the games that you really like, that would improve my life considerably.

Meh, indeed.

If you think these are crappy graphics you need to get your eyes checked.

Well if your basing the game off;

a) Coming from 1600p/60fps to 720p/30fps
b) Playing the opening scene and barely past the gassed basement
c) Still playing Farcry 3 this far along past release

then I don't know what to tell you other than stories and character development don't matter to you. Two monkeys could have taken a shit on a few pieces of paper, smeared it around and called it Farcry 3's script. I enjoyed Farcry 3 for the 6 hrs it took me to complete it but it was only because I got to blow shit up. TLoU is on a completely different planet compared to Farcry 3.

That's for sure. Far Cry 3 is tedious as fuck. Maybe he hasn't played it long enough to realize you do the same thing over and over and over and over and... :p

I just completed the TLoU. It's a fantastic game, and the ending left me wanting more. I usually don't buy console games at launch at full price, but I had $60 in Best Buy rewards zone certificates, so I figured why not.

The only thing I would like to have seen was more variety in enemies. Three types of infected and humans just don't seem enough. It was a good ride, and I expect big things from the PS4 sequel (making an assumption there).

I thought the game was phenomenal. I loved how that world came together, and the atmosphere was amazing. I always loved finding notes lying around, and really loved the series of notes from Ish, the boat captain. I almost hope some of the DLC covers some of his story. It could be interesting.

As someone who has played all of the Uncharted games a lot felt familiar about this game. The lighting was really similar, and the animation of Joel's movement was somewhat similar too. I wonder if the sequence towards the beginning of Uncharted 3 that involved stealth killing a bunch of guards in the museum was inserted for research purposes to make The Last of Us work better. I bet they learned some things from that area.

The Ish notes were some of the best, Also some people seem to be a bit confused about what happens with him but,

After you get out of the Sewers in one of the houses you come across there's another note here from Ish that talks about how he and a woman made it out and how he had to stop her from going back into the sewers. They both survived, at least outside of the sewer (and most likely wrote that warning on the outside about the danger and not to go in, which you come across when you exit it and Ellie makes the joke about it and no warning on the other exit where you entered it).

So Ish's storyline is still left "open" a nd he could very well end up as a great DLC, it could tell his story taht we already know, how he stayed out at sea on his boat and then finally had to come into shore because of supplies, and how he makes his home here in the sewer and then runs across the other people and invites them to stay in the sewer. He even has a son too (Danny). Then how it all ends and they make their way outside in the end, an dthe game could take it further since we do not know what happened to him or if he is still alive or what.

I also liked the notes about the boy and his dog and letting it go.

I thought it would have been an amazing tie in if
The dog you see in the game at the Dam, that is with Tommy and the other people, was the same dog that you read about in the notes, where the boy's dad takes his dog and lets him go and tells the boy he'll be ok.

I'm really enjoying the game, haven't rushed through it as I have work/real life... but will probably finish this weekend.

I've played through the uncharted games and liked those... this is a great game and I enjoy the characters.

Really hoping they port this game over to the PS4 via PSN+ or whatever .... I've stayed outa console gaming & been a PC gamer for the most part (last console was a PS1)

But with things how they are I dont have the cash I used to, to keep up with PC upgrading etc...

Figured with the next gen consoles hitting soon its a good time to make the switch & IMHO the PS4 is the much better choice, cheaper too! :)

I finished TLoU over the weekend. My god what an amazing game. It took me about 17hrs and already thinking about going back through again.

I figured I’d give the online a try. This can be just as intense as the campaign. If you’re looking for something quick like CoD online, you won’t like it. I would say it’s much closer to Counter-Strike where sticking together and planning your moves is key to winning. I greatly enjoying Survivors mode which is 4-on-4 with permadeath (meaning no respawns until next match). Just like the campaign you scavenge for items which are easily found on the map. When things go down it’s quick and brutal, just like the campaign. You just hope you planned good enough to be the last standing.

I have never had a deeper sense of dread being the only survivor on my team knowing even 2 or 3 are slowly bearing down on your position.

The other mode plays similar but has more of a pool of 20 lives for each team.

Yea I just watched an IGN overview of the MP and they said it's just as good as the single player.

Yeah, after playing through the campaign twice, I decided to go online since the reviews seemed to give it a bit of credit too. It's definitely worth playing. I enjoyed both modes, but I don't really understand the point in having the "survivor/clan" count other than just giving you another reason to keep playing and boosting your clan size. I also couldn't really figure out the ranking system other than seeing my number correspond to how many "weeks" I have been playing.

I really wish they had more game play modes in MP though. I would have loved some sort of co-op or survivor/hoard mode where you get to fight off waves of Infected while scavenging for supplies. That would have been perfect. But I still give the game a 10/10 because MP is just gravy on the potatoes. The campaign alone is well worth $60, IMO, esp. since it gives you some incentive to play through it again with "New Game+."

Playing thru this right now. Not getting all the hype about it, its a decent game. Well with recent (few years) games, I should say it's pretty good so far. However, it's not really sucking me in. I come back to it every few days to play another 2-4 hours. I plan on finishing it within a night or 2, glad I rented it from redbox so it'll only have cost me ~20$ instead of 60$

It's the story and the characters that set it apart from others, imo.

Even the side things you find (notes, etc) has good stories to them, like the "ish" story arc you slowly uncover when you come across the boat and the sewers after it.

That it has and does, I think the problem with it ( for me ) is that it seems to not go along at a good enough pace for me. Which is weird because people are saying this is a short game, and I love 40+ hour rpg's the most. However, I get the feeling that's why its not gripping me, I know it's a slower paced adventure survival, but even for that I think it would be better if things happened a bit more quickly, or there were more to the running in between other than notes and scenery.

I loved the game but I did not like the lack of morality based decisions that you could have potentially made (such as having the option to take out people that do you over and in return get special items but also lose their help in tough situations).

The multiplayer blew big time and I sold the game within 2 weeks of beating it.

The multiplayer is unbalanced and the interface/options are light years behind even CS 1.6.

Clutching in multiplayer is basically impossible as pistols don't give you headshots (most guns don't) and armor prevents one shot headshots from the sniper rifle and the whole downing someone thing but they can be revived after getting headshotted without armor is a joke haha.

Looks like the next game(s) I'll be getting for the PS3 is the full MGS collection and Beyond Two Souls.

How far are you in?

For me the story really "clicked" once you meet Henry and Sam, that's when the story picks up and after that I found myself not wanting it to end.

I beat the game around 18 hours or so and wanted a lot more out of it.

I agree, and maybe a bit before, but it's a great game that I did not want to end as well... thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and the ending.

I bought the game, played 10 hours and got 47% complete and then traded it in. The story was really good but I didn't like the gameplay at all. It wasn't fun to me and became extremely repetitious. I ended up watching the remaining cut scenes on youtube.

I know I am in the minority when I say I thought as a total package it was average at best. I don't regret buying it and trying it but it didn't live up to the hype for me.

Fantstic game. It's a system seller for me. When the inevitable remake is done (or Gaikai Stream) for PS4, there will be a lot of first time Playstation players that are given an amazing experience.

As I said in the other TLoU thread:

If anyone wants to party up online, send me a friend request with a note that you're from [H]. I'm T4rd_ (note the underscore) on PSN. I'll probably be playing at some point tonight.

Just finished it. Yeah definitely the most fleshed out game I've played in a long time.

One aspect that gonna sound silly that I really liked was no invisible walls. Everywhere you couldn't go there was a reason why.

There were a few invisible walls I countered, like the Dam area where you can wade out into the river, you're blocked by invisible walls and can't go completely across it or downstream too far.

Okay yeah a couple sections had me cursing due to having to replay them 12 times, always making it near the save objective only to die by the last guy by some improbable glitch - it happened.

Oh and I don't remember sucking so bad with guns in any of the Encharted series. Seriously, I could not hit anything with the damn PS3 controller except when close with the shotgun.

Other than replay frustration and suck aiming as I'm used to keyboard and mouse, GOTY for sure.

got it due to all the rave about it, played it for 4 hours then gifted it to my friend since I'm not a fan of any sort of shooters requiring me to aim with a controller instead of mouse and keyboard. My friend loved it though.

Same here. Rented at Redbox. Took me forever to find it available at a Redbox near me.

I'm maybe 4-5 hours into it and while the story and setting are great, I'm not really enjoying the game itself as much as I had hoped.
The weird backwards controls are one thing, but it's just not doing it for me.
I find myself rolling my eyes as I encounter more instakill tickers I have to sneak past. The intentional shaky aiming pretty much forces you down that road until you upgrade it.
Some things have been amusing (like the boss inside the school), but I'm wishing the game was as good as the setting.

I haven't owned a console since Super Nintendo - but I went and bought a PS3 on the forums here just to play this game. Then it didn't work and I ended up buying an uncharted bundle at wal-mart. I'm at the school with Bill and it has been a lot of fun so far. At first I really couldn't get past that first real group of infected in the goldstone building. Finally I figured it out and gave up the shootem all approach and the game has started to roll. I haven't had the issues with backwards controls since this is the first console game I have played in over a decade.

Outside of the one mini event where I was hanging and had to shoot to defend myself I haven't used to many bullets. I keep hoarding them thinking I won't have any when I need them. Shivs are what I run out of - those things are great.

I am really impressed sitting in my living room about 15' from my 55" samsung. I love my PC gaming but there is something about sitting on the couch and playing TLoU. It really does look great too, some jaggies but overall I am impressed. I may try the Uncharted game that came with the PS3 after this.

I'm pretty sure they made the aiming deliberately terrible in this game. That was the biggest shock for me when I started playing was how awful my gunplay was, but I realized it wasn't necessarily me.

As you progress, you can reduce the amount of weapon spray, but typically what worked best for me was to try to line up my view as close as I could on the enemy, and then quickly aim and shoot, since your camera rotation doesn't sway unless you're aiming.

I found the gunplay horrid as well. If you could do Keyboard mouse accuracy though the game wouldn't be a challenge at all. Headshots on everything and move on.
