Dota 2 Official Thread

I bought the Compendium for 10 dollars. you get: 125% BP bonus until the finals (which is August 2013), a mythical courier, free set (I got Witchdoctor set), chance to get items if you watch live DotA 2 tournament match via client and not sure what else.

Basically, it is well worth it for the BP bonus alone.

What the hell are BP even good for anyways? If I even mention those words in game people go apeshit and flame me until I mute them all.

Well, BP stands for Battle Points. Everytime you gain 1000 points, you gain a level. The points are gained by playing a match. It correlates directly with time spent in a match, the longer the match the more points you get. No bonuses to winning or losing. Then you get those bonuses obtained by buying boosters like the one you get from compendium.

What use do they have? They simply increase the chance for you to get cosmetic items at the end of a match and even improve the quality of items obtained (basically better and cooler items).

Ofcourse, people who are into cosmetic items for games they spend hundreds of hours on would very much like this.

Oh my god. MOD can you delete the duplicates. I can't seem to delete the posts since I couldn't find a delete option when clicking edit/delete in the bottom right corner of the post.

Sorry and thanks.

Yea I knew what it meant. And holy crap 7 responses? It's just that If I'm playing with someone who is good and I look at their profile out of curiosity and saw he/she is level 32 or something and I made a remark about it people freak out saying BP means nothing blah blah.

what a lot of people used to mean is that many of us played before levels so we have thousands of hours but are low level. and some people played a lot of games against the AI and gained a lot of levels but don't have very much in-game experience playing with teams.

so levels don't necessarily correlate to skill

Wow I didn't know bot matches counted towards BP. Sounds dumb. I have no idea where I'm at, I think I'm level 22-23 though. I play to have fun regardless, not pimp my hero's wardrobe.

CO-OP Bot Games only give a fraction of the BP you would otherwise get in a real match.

Not to mention playing an actual game allows 5 more real player slots therefore allowing more battle bonuses to stack (if the players have them).

Fun is the goal! Cosmetic modifications are the cherry on top. However, for some people, cosmetics are fun!

So my friends and I have just started playing dota. It's fun, but what the hell is with people disconnecting? You die once so you leave? That's pretty lame. We've played five games against people and so far at least 3 people have quit from the other team each time.

Low skill tier

Low skill tier

Yup. It will get better my friend. There are penalties for disconnecting (low priority match making), but when the skill level is that low people don't really care. Just keep playing, improve your game, and the quality of your matches/opponents will improve. I haven't been in a game in the last 2 months where someone DCd.

Hey, so I tried giving this a shot but the matchmaking takes forever. The only time I've found matches are

1.) By myself after waiting for about 15 minutes. I missed it because I stepped out of the room.
2.) When I had a 5 person team and somehow we always ended up against a team of bots.

Every other time I wait in line forever. I've selected all regions, all languages, and all game modes to speed up the process. Does completing 100% of the training speed this process up any?

Sound like your low priority from quitting games. I usually wait between 30 seconds and 3 minutes for a game. You won't play against bots unless you pick bot match.

If you just started playing then it will take a while for it to find a match since you are a very low level and most people have been playing dota 2 for many months now. When my friends and I started playing and we were all level 1 it took 5-15 minutes to find matches. We are around level 3-4 now and it only takes a minute or two usually. Yesterday it found a match for us in about 10 seconds. It's just that there is a limited number of low level players out there at any given moment.

i dont believe it goes by level its a hidden MMR that helps you get placed. same thing though after a few matches it will speed up

Ok, I guess the group leader chose the bot matches then. I thought maybe it did it because it was late and not many people were on.

Just waited 18 mins in the solo queue and nothing popped up :/

[Edit:] I haven't left any games, but I didn't join that one that was offered. Would that count against me?

no, declining a matchmaking request does not work against you. leaving a match in the picking phase or anytime after will give you a disconnectq

Wow, apparently valve has implemented a download queue for people trying to download dota 2. A friend of mine just tried to download it for the first time and he's being given a 3 day wait estimate. Crazy.

I'm new to this moba stuff. I want to DL this game but have to clear up HD space first. Are heroes persistent, or do you level them per game and a new game sets the level back to 0?

Yes, you start fresh each match. You can get cosmetic items through drops or buy paying money for them but they don't have any impact on the game.

That sucks. I decided to try and install it and it's downloading right away for me. I was in the beta though for quite awhile, could maybe make a difference?

I'm finding dota 2 way harder to get into than LoL.

I tried to play LoL the other day, after starting with DOTA2, and there's no way. So it's hard coming from the other side. LoL looks like a kids cartoon to me after playing Dota2. I kinda feel like I'm playing a mobile phone tower defense game with the graphics.

Yeah, I just switched from LoL too and the learning curve sucked. I think part of it though was that I played a lot of ARAM in LoL and learned the strengths/weaknesses of most of the heroes. In dota2 I had to relearn most of that.

Dota2 gameplay also seems slightly different. It feels like there's more CC so I've had to play a little more carefully. After a couple weeks though I feel like I'm getting the hang of it. Or by playing a carry I'm just getting fed.

Hi guys. As I posted a few months back, I have started making DotA 2 cosmetic items and recently have finished my fourth entry. Still nothing has been accepted ingame but that is hopefully bound to happen as I improve me skills.

With that said, my latest work is a Juggernaut Sword which I consider to be a leap in improvement compared to my first work. Still, I would appreciate it if you guys go here and Vote on the item:

For those who are familiar with Dota 2 cosmetics, we have gone a step further as we moved out from him color scheme since we thought that we can get away with it on a blade. Besides, a green and black/purplish blade already exist for him ingame.

Again, would appreciate the support.

Is there anyway to skip the freaking tutorial? I was going to play some matches a couple nights ago but felt the tutorial was drawn out so I just played League of legends.

I believe there was a console command that let you skip all the stuff. I remember reading about it in one of the posts on /r/dota2 suggesting that tutorial not be necessary to watch games. Command was something along the lines of UI_full. Not too much help for you but hopefully it leads you in the right direction.
