A new stalker ?

I'm in for a spiritual successor to anything S.T.A.L.K.E.R. related...that series has been through so many turbulent times (starting with the original game)...sad that we get a new CoD game every year but can't get more S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games made

I recently just played through the original stalker again using the complete mod. Replaying the old ones is still fun. I signed up for the Survarium alpha when I was trying to see if there were any simple coop mods for stalker.

No MMO could ever be considered a successor to STALKER.
There is a new STALKER in the works, however. STALKER:Lost Alpha, which was to be a huge user SoC mod,now has the backing of GSC and will be released by them as a stand alone game.

did you read the article?

Well to be fair, some people do consider Survarium to be a spiritual successor to the STALKER franchise. It's made by the same people who made STALKER, and the setting is very similar to STALKER.

Only problem (for me) is that it's MMO. I don't think the original STALKER feel can be captured in a MMO setting. But many STALKER fans are excited about this project

Sounds good but I'm wary of it being more MMO based. It might also be pay for free and that could muddy up things as far as available weapons and such. It also might suffer from it being developed more for 'casual' gamers and will take away the ''hardcoreness" that I and everyone else seemed to love.

yeah I only think of STALKER as being a single player game.

The original mod concept for Stalker: Lost Alpha was to bring back alpha stuff that was cut from Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, but it has snowballed into something much more than that. The news that GSC is now involved with it is not, to my mind, necessarily good news; didn't that company blow up in to a really messy mess?

A very recently released mod called Oblivion Lost Remake is apparently much more like that original concept, but the web pages for it are all in Russian (you can google for it), and I read in comments somewhere that it has been done by just one guy so it's still full of bugs and issues, so I have not attempted to obtain it, making the possibly wrong assumption that there's no English translation.

Survarium has gotten a lot of badmouthing, but since it's still in early alpha, I wonder if the people badmouthing it have even played it. It's just way too early to trust anything, good or bad, that you hear about it.

For Stalker: Call of Pripyat fans, Misery 2.0 now has a new release date of July 31.

the thing that makes the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series so good is that it's close to reality...the area around Chernobyl (Pripyat) is still to this day dangerous and uninhabitable...who knows what the Russian gov't is withholding from the public...I wouldn't be surprised to find mutant humans and animals there...very scary place which has been faithfully recreated in the games using detailed maps

with all other games you are transported to a fantasy world which doesn't exist so you can separate it in your mind as fiction but not so with S.T.A.L.K.E.R....even the 2012 movie Chernobyl Diaries which I recently saw on premium cable TV creeped me out

Let's not get carried away by fantasies...next you are gonna tell me the Zombie Apocalypse is around the corner.

This looks OK, I'm not one for MMO's, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Really looking forward to Lost Alpha though, that looks smexy :D

There really needs to be a new S.T.A,L.K.E.R. game. It had a unique feel and the closest I can think of comparing it to was Fallout 3, but even then it's not the same thing at all.

The original Oblivion Lost mod was my favorite mod for Stalker. I much preferred it over Complete. But at some point one of the versions would cause a crash at the exact same place every time you would come to that point.
It was a great mod though. It spawned monsters in the military warehouse zone like crazy and often times, if you didnt go back to help them clean it out, you would go back and it would be completely wiped out by 10 bloodsuckers and a bunch of the stompy guys and the psychic ass holes lol. Also the artifacts could be activated as traps. Such a good mod. But no new content which after googling the "remake" it looks like that has a lot of new stuff

It's too bad the STALKER games never got the kind of mod support Fallout 3/New Vegas has. The majority of mods for it just add features left out of the the original SoC,no new content, story lines, characters, ect. The only mod I've found that does so is Priboi's Story,an early effort by the team that's working on Lost Alpha. I'm hoping LA is a big success, maybe it will inspire GSC to actually do something with the franchise. As much as I like the Fallout games, they just can't compare to STALKER.

STALKER really made you feel like you were there in the moment, exploring a realistic world with some sci-fi elements. You had to be careful and you had to be smart. Fallout 3 and NV, while fun, were a lot less demanding on you. And keep in mind, I only played it for a few hours.

You know, I tried booting up STALKER a few weeks ago but I thought it was a little on the ugly side so I stopped. I might have to get back into it.

You've clearly never played AMK or People Soup. AMK is like Oblivion Lost with more content. People Soup is unfiltered Ukrainian/Russian insanity. SGM for Call of Pripyat is similarly insane and brutal.

One of the reasons S.T.A.L.K.E.R. didn't have a bevy of mods was because the structure of the game isn't as open as Gamebryo, plus there's a language barrier built into the engine (though not a problem for everyone).

I honestly just look at Stalker as being a done deal. If a real sequel ever came cool but I'm most certainly not gonna get all reverent about it and burn myself with a day one purchase.

i love all 3 STALKER games. i might be against the grain here but a STALKER-esque MMO sounds fantastic to me.

Yeah Clear Sky has the best graphics. I also loved the game play.

Hmmm, maybe I'll play through STALKER. I have SOC and Clear Sky and haven't played more than an hour through either one...

It being an MMO ruins the whole concept and atmosphere. This is probably the worst thing that can happen to STALKER and I am not sure how anyone can consider this to be a "good thing".

This is one of the first times i've heard CS talked about in an only positive way. I skipped over it.. was that a mistake?

Yes you are missing out. The graphics are actually really good, might even have to turn down the god rays. Make sure to play with the complete mod, there are some disgusting bugs in vanilla.

The best part is you can actually upgrade weapons, and there are some faction wars which, although they can get annoying, are actually pretty good.

The best Stalker would be Clear Sky graphics, CoP refinement(never encountered a single bug stock) and SoC story..and of course the maps of all of them combined.

The trouble with Clear Sky is that it is incomplete. Halfway into the game, just when it's getting good, you get dumped into a "what the fuck just happened?" endgame that takes about 10 seconds. It's very obvious that production was halted very prematurely and the production team given a few days to wrap up what they had.

CoP was much better than Clear Sky; it serves more or less as an epilogue to the epic SoC, giving you the end story to what happened to the Zone and everyone in it after the events of SoC. While CoP is complete, the storyline was not very strong and SoC is unquestionably the main event of the series.

I am a big fan of all 3 Stalker Games and I hope Survarium adds something to the legacy. I must admit I am a bit skeptical though. A co-op Stalker with 2-4 player capability and scaling difficulty would probably be the ultimate for me.

lmfao @ your ignorance

Completely agree,Clear Sky went from the open world,non-linear format that SoC did so well to a very linear and unsatisfying ending.CoP was much better, but it did leave some unanswered questions, such as who or what was controlling the Monolith fighters. In the game,Strelock says that the Collective Consciousness he destroyed in SoC weren't really controlling events in the Zone, which was probably setting up the storyline for the cancelled STALKER 2. It's a shame we may never find out how the story ends.

For those of you who have enjoyed playing Clear Sky I recommend the following mod, this has been my fave so far and I've played them all:

http://www.moddb.com/downloads/stalker-clear-sky-mod-pack-2012

It is a combination of multiple mods that includes:
CS Complete
CS Mystery
CS Remix
Absolute Nature
Misery guns and Gnomus scopes
lots of other graphical, sound and game play tweaks (the fucking bloodsucker roar makes me jump every time!)

Plus it also fixed up a couple of annoying bugs and random crashes I would have with the vanilla game. You'll need a fairly beefy system to run it with all options maxed out.

I would recommend a fresh install of the game if you already have other mods installed that can't easily be removed before you drop in this mod.

On a side note, yeah the ending to CS sucked big time- they could have done so much more with it. SOC is still the best IMHO, but I've played that so many times it's barely a challenge anymore even with Misery mod and "master" level selected. I'd be happy with ANYONE building a game similar to this series but I'm not holding my breath.

I will give this a shot, thanks for making me aware of this one. I really enjoy lots about Clear Sky. Could do without Complete though.

Thanks for the CS modpack. I've been itching to play more STALKER... just replayed SoC again a month or two ago.
