Microsoft Says Prices for Xbox One Games to Remain the Same

Some things in life remain static while others do not; such is the case with the new Xbox One. While the console will be very different and much more technologically sophisticated, the pricing of the newly designed games for the next-gen system will remain the same as the Xbox 360, Microsoft has confirmed.

A spokesperson told Polygon that Microsoft Studios games will have a standard price of $59.99, meaning that we won't be seeing a premium for the extra work of making next-gen titles, despite what developers have said about the increased complexity of building for the new console.

Well, gosh. This just makes me want to run out and buy one.

Not.

All those people defending the Xbox One by saying that the games should be cheaper were delusional. Well...they were correct in saying that with the DRM, the games *should* be cheaper since they now have much less resale value. There was no way out would happen though. If anything, I'm surprised prices didn't go up again this generation.

Wow, this is FANTASTIC news!

I just cant WAIT to go out and not buy one!

To me, $59.99 IS a premium price for a game, regardless of platform. I miss the good 'ole days of buying a PC game in a store on release day for $30, when the regular price was $45-50.

I'm just thankful I have a huge Steam backlog so I can wait for new games to go on sale for $5-30 when the seasonal specials hit.

Good thing you can't sell a new game that been completed for $35-$40 on Amazon Marketplace or eBay, or that might cheapen the platform. Xboned!

What all you people fail to realize is what a good deal your getting. Instead of getting up and paying more, the developers are crafting games that are more sophisticated to produce that they are letting you buy at the same price to sell to other people.

Q: If my XBOX LIVE account was banned, would I continue to have access to my XBOX ONE games?
A: If your account is banned, you also forfeit the licenses to any games that have licenses tied to it as listed in the ToU.

Xbox support answering someone's question on twitter, the thread severely deteriorates as you scroll down.

What could possibly go wrong?

EDIT: Was just thinking, if you must install your games, and those games are gone, that means all games are lost, regardless if they were bought digitally or disc format. Oh yeah, this is a GREAT idea......
Danger, Will Robinson, danger!!

As it is Microsoft is committing market suicide with the Xbox One. If they increased the prices of games by even $5, then it would be genocide at every Microsoft office everywhere.

Holy crap.

That's pretty draconian. I hope they have serious evidence to ban someone. It's common practice with PC to ban a multiplayer hacker from multiplayer servers. But ban them from the entire game and all of their other games?

That's asking for a court case to test the theory.

wait DRM was suppose to make the games cheaper. WTF. totally buying this system. love getting pounded in my ass

I expect they'll end up having full bans for people who are demonstrated to be screwing with the system somehow (playing improperly licensed games) and communication bans (no multiplayer, no chat, etc. but access to games) for people who are banned for being offensive assholes.

For the former I have no sympathy even if they only played one illegitimate game among their two-dozen other legitimate ones - such folks can be expected to know the deal before they get the console. For the latter, just being an asshole shouldn't mean you no longer have the right to use the things you paid for.

LOL, people are going to buy it up in droves, play their games, the way MS wants them to, and not say a damn thing about the price, or lack of ability to resell. The market has proven that it is spineless. There will be a lot of talk, followed by a lot of buying it up, then shutting up about the no resale/price issues, or even becoming defenders of the policy.

A few will really not buy, but most will. It's disgusting really.
Prove me wrong.

That's how I feel when a new CoD comes out every year. Bobby Kotick could take a dump in a box, call it Call of Duty: Ghosts, then sell it for $100.00 and some jerk-off would still buy it.

M$ can brag all they want about preorder sales. The majority of those will put on ebay or craigslist as soon as the preorder gets a tracking number like always.

Isn't that what he did last time?

Seriously, as someone who gets endless entertainment out of watching others be stupid and self destruct. I don't know if I can take much more stupidity in this short span of time. My sides are literally bruised from all the laughing at this point. :D

Isn't that what he did last time?

Fair enough, but it keeps getting more and more ridiculous. I pray that this time there won't be a line wrapping around my local GameStop for it but, we all know that's not going to happen....

Haw, knew they were going to have to backpeddle on this

Microsoft does not dictate the price of games, publishers dictate the price of games

I knew their fucking foot was in their mouth when they started saying "Games will be cheaper" when they have no fucking control over prices set on the system.

Fucking love it.

What a crock of shit. Developers actually have it easier with hardware being nearly the same. Now they have basically mini-pc's to program. Tighten up your code and make better games. No reason other than greed from publishers games shouldn't be $39, $49 max for AAA titles. Specially with the amount of volume they move compared to pc games. Was there a price difference with Sony popping out games on Blu-ray vs. Xbox 360 DVD-9??? Nope.

Cry me a river. Sitting in a cubicle programming games. Not like you have a job in the elements. Wanna put cars on a carhauler in 25F and snowing? 100 degrees and baking. Or raining. Wanna sit in a parts or car plant putting the same part on 12-14 hrs. a day? Hooking up oil rigging in that Cubicle now??? Tell them to shut it. I am definitely not buying and supporting either freakin console.

As eloquent an argument for communism as I've ever seen...

You know -- usually when someone takes away a bunch of features you are already used to and pay for currently -- the sensible thing is for the price paid for a smaller feature set is smaller.

Basically Microsoft has said "we are going to assume you turn criminal after 24 hours of being offline, you will never be allowed to OWN any of our games, and oh yeah, the price is exactly the same.... so fork over your money, you fucking sheep"

I think it's funny - MS touts all this control, and all these magical amazing things they can do to lock us out, spy on us, and control every minute instant of the game play experience, BUT it's beyond all their power to control a thing like the price.

It's amazing how every day a little more bad news slips out about the new Xbox. You figure they'd release all the nuggets of shit at once so things would eventually calm down. They mus like ripping the band aid off reallllllly slow.

I have owned every xbox since the black box.. even had a launch one. and both elites and all that, i have over 100 games. but now with this new one, i am drifting over to ps4. i have a large family and having to pay a fee to use my store bought game on my kids accounts no fracking thanks.. they can shove it.

I allways get the cheap games, heck why not happy to wait and i buy the occasional on, and btw we here in asu pay $129 for prem games and 99 for new ones. its funny cause the ship that brings the games to america stops here in aus first.. odd eh. and thats true for most of the world.

i love getting cheap games, loooks that is a thing of the past with the xbox 1, sigh now for this unforgivable thing microsoft is doing. the xbox gaming divesion and xbox live can die a good death. too bad about all those who work for ms and the xbox divisions. i hope they die and burn, and in 4 years to be so unprofitable to shut down.. and all those lawsuits can kill microsoft for ever woot!!

What fee? Christ, at least pay attention to the information that you're letting get to you. You'll be able to share any/all of your games with 10 people on your friend's list...or do you have 11+ kids? I suppose if the sharing requires the Gold subscription, you could call that a "fee" for sharing, but a bunch of other stuff comes with that too.

**all my price talk is in US**
Games are still going to drop in price as they age. I don't know why anyone would think they wouldn't. Further, used prices don't really put a lot of downward pressure on new game prices now. If you go into a Gamestop today you'll find that used copies of the newest games are only $5 off the new price.

Honestly, the only people who "have" to pay $60 for new games are those who simply have to have it at release. Waiting as little as 6 months will usually get you a new copy for $50 or under. Assassin's Creed 3, to cite one [reportedly buggy] example, was at $40 way back in February. A new copy of Borderlands 2 is $30 after less than a year.

What a crock of bullshit. If you honestly think that Microsoft would rather burn the place down than make changes that end up being necessary, you're insane. Also, learn how to use the SHIFT key. I'm pretty sure they teach capital letters even in "asu."

I wasn't going to buy one either way,

But, with all crap they are doing, if I can damn well help it, no one I know will be buying one either.

I will not defend the Xbone announcement on game prices but no body said games would release for less. The argument is that as the system matures games will come down in price faster.

But given all the flack MS is taking they should be launching one or 2 of their own titles like halo at a discount.

yes but only once, and i have 7 people in my house and 2 xboxs and we swap and share games all the time.. its easier... and i dont have that many gold accounts. still a terrible thing they have done for me and my family.. and its a crazy idea. the current system works just fine. and i aint gonna wire my house for net.. and wifi well i would need at least two wifi units.. meh no thanks.

games will not drop in price, keep in mind the aus dollar has for the last year or more been trading higher than the us dollar. here we have plenty of specialls on old games at the moment. like 2 for $40. and new games here go for $129 eg https://www.ebgames.com.au/xbox360-157867-Mad-Max-Xbox-360 and six months later it drops to $40.

its must to be living in the USA everything is so dam cheap compared to here, like i said new games go for over 100 dollars each.

oh they will and xbox live is toast, see the real problem is the infrastructure of the world is not up to cloud based stuff. its a totally us centric unit. the having to be online crap is stupid idea (keep in mind when the net goes down its for way more than a day.. and no luck taking it on holiday with you!!! no net there!!!). and when the new console comes out after the x1, then they stop support all your games stop being playable woot.. nice one so all the hundreds of dollars you spent on your libary = 0. too bad for you.

lets put it this way, after the launch and the game thing. of all the people at my work. there is 179 of us there. with at last count 104 xbox 360s and rest ps3. i asked people if they are gonna get the x1? out of the 104 only 20 are thinking about it as they dont have ps4. the rest are going ps4. its simple, the games and being able to lend and borrow games at will. the free psp network. the fact that your games will be playable years into the future..

i loved the 360 and had fun ont he black box, i will not be buying the xbox one at all.infact i have put down an pre-order for the ps4.

i have read a great deal about the 1 and the ps4.

the ps4 looks to be a better buy on all fronts.. at least i can take that console on holiday with me!!!

Wrong again. The shared game library is available for play at any time by the up to 10 people you designate. Only one person out of the 11 (including the owner) can play at a time, but this is not a loan or resale.

As for wifi, I suspect that you don't know what you're talking about there, either.

Yeah, Australians get screwed when it comes to video games. That's not new and is an entirely separate subject.

And that's the limit of the nonsense you've typed that I'm going to deal with before I go to sleep.

Maybe Microsoft hasn't been clear enough in detailing their system and providing a decent FAQ in a single place (presumably they will closer to release). Still, once you've been told that you're wrong about things that have been posted and discussed right here on this site, I think it's reasonable to expect that you might go and look at/think about the readily available information before telling me "nuh uh!"

Also, SHIFT KEY! English, ****** *******, did you learn it?

teehee funny,

quote "Share access to your games with everyone inside your home: Your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games. Anyone can play your games on your console--regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you."

http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/license

i have 3 consoles in my house, that's for 1 console.. cool.. but what are my kids and wife gonna do on the other units? and the license per game is per account. which means i cant play say the new halo and then say hmm call of duty.. here son play my halo.. he cant, unless we have family gold. which btw i cant afford, you know the GFC caused by greed?? (lets not dig that can of worms eh?)

and Xbox live family pack is limited to 4 people.

harsh but false, i have a double story house built 20 years ago. to adequately cover my house with usable WiFi speeds i would need two wifi routers and Ethernet connecting them.. i hate bridging my WiFi or using WiFi extenders.. been there hated that. and its a double brick walls throughout.. soo woot.. try again..

wrong again, its never happened here and the market will decide the prices in theory, in reality they are out to make money and will def charge what the market will handle. m$ or game companies don't care about us, just what they want and how much more can they charge us for our games and product. with the 1 you don't actually only the game, only paying the right to play them. when support is removed your library ceases to work. bang done no more.. lets say you buy 10 games per year for 6 years.. that's 60 games at 60 in the USA = 3600 or here 7740. new console comes out, 2 years after the new console xbox1 support is dropped alone with live support for that console.. bang 3600 no longer playable.. nice. they have done this with the first gen xbox .

and there is a budding theory that the rest of world pays high game prices and higher console prices to substitue the americans.. me not so much, just plain

English, ****** *******, did you learn it?
Americans sheesh they think the world revolves around them, and american english is stupid in its own spelling.. but htats different topic. well actually i am tri-lingual and have been since birth. i can read and write three languages. english suffers in spelling.

Thank you, well said.

Also, SHIFT KEY! English, ****** *******, did you learn it?

Also, a bit off topic, I'm honestly tired of hearing harsh comments from other people regarding the spelling and grammar of other people that posts on forums and such online. And, to me, even hearing it from a fellow US citizen honestly disgusts me. It shows a very lack of comprehension and understanding of another person's situation. It also shows a very ethnocentric attitude, at the same time very egotistic, pompous and prideful. Us Americans have become the butt of jokes of other people in other countries because how we tend to push our morals, ideals, attitudes and ego onto other people.

As a country that's built upon the multitude of cultures, religions, and ethnic groups, I find it insulting that a fellow American would rather insult another person for their lack of perfect English instead of trying to comprehend and kindly correct them. We need to stop being bullies to other people as it's not going to gain us many friends or allow us to maintain allies in the long run. We need to stop with the ethnocentrism and egotistic attitudes.

No one has perfect English, and I've known this since I was a kid. My parents don't have perfect English, the classmates I've gone to school don't have it either, and neither do the co-workers or customers I've worked with. Everyone has their way of reading, writing, and speaking English as it is considered a rather difficult language to learn outside of Russian and Chinese. I'm patient, understanding, tolerant and accepting of the differences and imperfections of others.

I wish other Americans would do the same.

(And, yes, I speak and write very good English even though I'm an American-born Asian-American.)

Meh, I'm just going to continue to buy Shareware floppies at grocery stores for $0.99 each.
