NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

While Necere did an excellent job with this case, a hinged fan bracket isn't something that hasn't been done before. I've seen it on some cases years ago. And most of the other stuff has been done before too.
Granted, i've had repaired alot of people with hinged brackets for fans, RaidMax Smilodon f.ex.
But that wasn't really the thing i was referring to.

What makes the Ncase M1 so unique is it's vast amount of flexibility and near-perfect efficiency, allowing high-end hardware in an extremely tiny package. All those nice features, like the fan bracket, are accurately and optimally applied in a degree unseen in this kind of cases.
This is what i was referring to.
Check out the other cases that were there... some are dead ringers for the NCase.

It would be at least good if they credited Necere for the main design points.
My foot i'll believe it's a coincidence with the time tables of the cases.

By "priority shipment" I literally meant priority shipment at the post office, not in the sense that our cases get shipped first, but instead that when they do get shipped they get shipped with priority mail instead of normal :p.

Overnight / expedited shipping varies by location. It is unlikely we will create a reward tier for it for this reason.

You can just email / message us after you choose a version of the M1, we can figure something out.

It'll need updating once I get the drawings back from them, as there are a few changes they need to make for manufacturing. I'll keep your request in mind though.

Thank you that would be excellent. Am waiting patiently now for the next step towards owning this case.

Are we still thinking it will be $200? Is that out the door, or plus shipping? I want to make sure I save up enough for this case. I will probably have to sell some of the hardware I'm not using right now. Hrmmm. I may put one of my 7970's up for sale... We'll see.

With all the new folks rolling in, I've lost track of where we stand w/ LL in reference to proto #2. How are we looking, boss? :D

I'd rather not change anything else at this point without having a good reason for it. Every change requires their engineers to change the drawings, and I've already submitted what I told them was basically the final CAD model from our end. I'm now just waiting for them to finish the drawings so I can verify everything.

There you go ;)

I'm not the boss, I just run operations - the not so glamorous parts ;)

Assuming no curve balls or surprises from LL, they should let us know this week about prototype 2 viability.

That's not the reason for delaying the campaign, Necere wants to prepare pictures and other stuff, which I agreed to since the new renderings look decent.

It also gives me some time to prepare for the chaos of a campaign.

So who's going to have a quarter of a million dollars sitting in their bank account from the production campaign?

Nothing's set in stone yet, but I'm pretty sure we'll be able to keep it under $200 total cost (i.e., after shipping), at least for our domestic backers. I'd like to keep it well under that, but it depends on the final order size and quote from LL. The vents added to the right side panel, logo and serial are going to add some cost, but we don't know exactly how much yet.

So who's going to have a quarter of a million dollars sitting in their bank account from the production campaign?
We've got a business account set up to receive the the funds when they are released. I don't think it'll be anywhere close to that much, but I suppose it's possible.

since it was brought up, i'm wondering how the indiegogo campaign will be tiered. you'll have to set price tiers before the production begins, but the price per unit determines how many backers there are. i'm sure there will be special tiers, not just one (usually there are anyway). i don't envy how you are going to figure this all out :p

Some donors on the waitlist just wanted to help us, they are not going to buy the production unit.

I think the perceived demand for M1 is very optimistic and exaggerated.

I appreciate the prototype campaign, I'm grateful for the support, but I will be very relieved if we can just get 300 units.

This case is going to be a collector's item in no time at all. ;)

I'd be upset with myself for the next 10 years for not buying one (or 2) when the opportunity presents itself. It's the case I always wished someone would make.

Lian Li might be able to make an alternative case but they can't seem to get over their 4x3.5" bay fetish.

This is what the SG09 should have been instead of that mATX monstrosity. I was so upset when I found out they took my favorite itx case line and turned it into a mATX case.

Well I thought SG09 is the right size for some dual GPU system.
They expanded their customer base with that, it's probably not to compete with their itx line.
Meanwhile Lian Li just do the same old. Look at the PC-Q08->PC-Q18->PC-Q28 cases.
They're like targeting the same kind of system build.

The SG series was mATX before it was ever miniITX, if that's what your are referring to.

Do you plan to have more batches made once the first batch sells out? I think you'll be able to sell quite a few units, at least over time as more people find out about the case when they see it in reviews and on the forums. It's a great case design that, in certain ways, is far superior to its competitors.

The original plan was to do just one run of this model. I don't think they are planning a second batch.

@wahaha360/@Necere: Two questions, if I may.

1. Wouldn't it be better if we change the circular shaped holes into honeycomb shaped ones? It should provide 10-15% better airflow, hence keeping the system a bit cooler and quieter.

2. The USB 3.0 ports in the front, they would be black in color in the production model, no?

Great work on the case. Proud of you guys.

The honeycomb would make the price of the case manufacturing go up as lian-li does not currently have any cases that use that style of metal punching.

They have diagonal slots. Not sure how that would look on the M1 though. Think I'd rather have the holes though.

I'm not making any promises but MSI has two mATX B85 boards that may just fit in the case. It will be a very tight fit as both are 8.9in x 6.81in but if the go in they both have PCIe x1 slots below the x16 slot so no adapter needed for a sound card. Again its been a while since I read the internal dimensions but in theory I think its possible. Buy on this information at your own risk.

I am sure there are a few people like me who missed the indiegogo campaign due to work and various reason. On top, a few us would be quite interested in purchasing 2+ units.

I think 300 units is easily achievable. Appreciate all the work you are doing for us ITX enthusiasts and looking forward to the production campaign.

The 300 number is the minimum order that has to be made to get the case manufactured. People will have 30 days to order the case during the production campaign, after that, well they will likely be out of luck.

Doing this would incur significant tooling costs.

No. Blue.

Very tight is right. Technically, a board with exactly those dimensions should fit, but we're talking ~2mm of clearance horizontally, and ~0.5mm vertically.

Just to make it perfectly clear, you'll still be able to get one when the production campaign goes live. The first campaign we did was just to get the prototype made and tested; early shipping was just a bonus for our backers, but it's not required to participate in the production campaign.

So apparently High Power was showing a bunch of new SFX PSUs at Computex, with power ratings as high as 500W:

Interesting thing is the increased length over the Silverstone/FSP/Enhance units, which lets them get a 120mm fan inside. This is exactly what we were looking into a few months back. High Power (AKA Sirfa/Sirtec) is sort of a middle-tier OEM, so it remains to be seen how good these units are.
