Sony Aiming for Sub-$400 PlayStation 4 Price

I'll likely end up with one at some point. Not sure if I'll get one right away or not. I'm going to need at least a little more compelling evidence after buying a 3DS, Vita, and WiiU that I don't end up playing all that much.

No one's even seen the console yet, but people are claiming they're going to pre-order or buy on the first day.

Seems like good consumerism.

Well that all depends on how game developers support the hardware. Technically speaking a PC built in 2006-2007 would still be able to play today's games just fine. A machine with a GeForce 8800 GTS would be more then capable of running today's games. That's a 2006 GPU.

An AMD a10 6800k is probably the cheapest solution to PC gaming. For $150 you get a Quad core CPU and a mid range GPU. Not exactly equivalent to the PS4 or Xbox One, but it'll last far longer then 2 years. Who's to say what's available by the time these consoles are released.

No it's not equivalent, is way way faster then any AMD CPU/APU. AMD doesn't have a good power-to-compute ratio CPU/APU (they lag at least 5 years behind Intel in this aspect) and with PS4/Xbox the custom made design was not to made to make it faster it was made to make it consume less power can cost less (hence the shared memory).

You do realize that there is a much bigger gap between PC and consoles then it is from a console to a cell phone?

Function over form.

I really couldn't care less what it looks like to be honest with you. As long as it plays games and does what it's supposed to do, it can be shaped like a harp for all i care.

Point is that machine will last you a lot longer then 2 years. Also, consider that the 8 core Jaguar cores in the PS4 are clocked at 1.6 Ghz. The a10 6800k is 4.1GHz, and can probably make up for the lack of cores with clock speed. In fact it maybe better depending on how many developers are writing code for multiple cores. Though by the time these consoles are out I expect every game to support multiple cores.

Well the good news is that these deals with Sony and Microsoft will probably bring new life to AMD, and hopefully new better designs for them to compete with. But yea they seriously lag behind a lot. An Intel i7 would be 2x faster then anything AMD has, if you ignore the graphics.

Yap.

Holy SHIT, the Sony conference is today? I get to see the PS4 today? Yes, yes, yes.

As long as it's true, and they don't screw over the whole point of console gaming like Microsoft are, then most likely going to get one.

I hate waiting, id buy one right now so i can kick my htpc to the curb.

Yeah, everyone should have seen it by now.

Wow $400? I feel bad for parents. That is a shit ton of money. Reminds me of when the NES came out, and only the kids with the richest parents had one. I think they eventually came down to like $100, which is still waaay more than my parents could spend on us back in the 80's.
