Is it worth the upgrade? Hard to justify in my mind spending all these new dollars. As I have recently went back down from triple screeens to a single large screen 32" 1080 monitor. Will I notice any performance difference? And what should I pick for single screen? Or would settling for a 760 Ti be enough?

If I were you - yes. But...that's me.

480 SLI on 1080p has to be pretty solid. The only way I'd say jump is if you plan to go further than 1080p and/or you're gaming at 120hz.

760Ti on 1080P should be enough.

GTX 480 SLI is probably very power hungry compared to a single 760Ti depending on your computer usage.

I'm upgrading my GTX 480 SLi to a GTX 770.

Why?

Because these things are absolutely horrid and always have been.

They heat up to 93C and take up almost 3x the power of a GTX 770.

Even underclocked, the fans together spin to about 45 dBA. That is realy loud.

In comparison, a GTX 770 is about equally powerful, but is quiet and cool.

I had never cared about these things before.. but the GTX 480's have changed me.

A single GTX480 is about the same as a GTX570 but a wee bit faster on higher res. Two GTX480's are about as fast as a single GTX590 which is bit faster than a GTX680. Unless the 760Ti is faster than a GTX680 or 590 which I highly doubt not worth upgrading unless you go to single GTX780.

The shit thing about the 480 is that they run hot and eat gobs of power and are almost as bad as the 5950ultra leaf blowers when under load.

I had 4 in my old X58 rig, 3 in Tri - Sli 4th as Physx and believe me during Summer my room even air-conditioned was 5-10'C hotter than the other rooms.

GTX 770 is 7.5% faster than GTX 680. Obviously, GTX 760 is going to be slower.

Well that's the main reason I want to switch from 480 SLI. No complaints about the performance at all but they just run too hot and power hungry. Plus now that I went back to single monitor, I don't need as much performance to push 1080p.

I'll wait and consider the numbers on the 760 Ti. Cos I almost went down for a single 670 before but decided to wait.

I would suggest selling the 480s and putting the money towards 780..Win all the way around..less power, heat, noise and a huge jump in performance.

i suppose the next question is how much do you game? If you're the occasional gamer, it might be worth to keep your setup. If you game everyday, over such and such hours a day, it might be more beneficial to upgrade. The x factor here is power consumption, noise and heat.

I had two 480s in SLi. I have to agree that the heat and noise were pretty terrible. I pretty quickly made the jump to two 580s when they became available for just those reasons (they are markedly quieter). It didn't hurt much since resale value of the 480s remained high at that time.

If I were you, I'd definitely jump on a single GTX 780. I'm probably going to pull the trigger on two myself. I like the idea of getting only one and simplifying. But 2x580 to 1x780 would be too much of a lateral move.

Good Luck!

I am looking at trading my 470's (the bastard child of the 400 series) for either 2 760ti's or a 770.

But I want to run two 2560x1440 @120hz

I wasn't aware of this as I haven't been up to date with the latest stuff from team green and Intel themselves besides the release of Haswell and Z87 mobo's 2 weeks ago.

With the GTX*60/Ti cards improving it will be a matter of time it will faster than a previous gen GTX*80 card.

I could never recommend 480 SLI over a single 770 or 780 unless the 480's were given to you for free. The 770 and 780 are faster, quieter, draw less power, and generate less heat and there's no SLI issues to deal with.
