I'm looking for a display to use with an XRGB Mini that will have a number of 240p 60hz consoles connected to it (SNES, Saturn, Genesis, Jaguar, etc). I also enjoy playing vertical shmups so being able to put the monitor into portrait mode would be great, or if it had a VESA mount so I could pair it with a stand that pivots.

27" to 32"
Very good 60hz motion
Matte/glossy is fine but not glass
Low input lag when fed 60hz/720p (since I believe the XRGB mini still has issues with scanlines at 1080p)
Portrait mode (or vesa mount capability)

Currently I'm eyeing the ViewSonic VP2770 but that seems like overkill since I won't be utilizing it's native resolution. Maybe I should constrain my search to TVs...?

Suggestions?

Anyone? :)

Samsung S27A950D looks like it fits the bill except it doesn't have pivot and isn't VESA mountable :( Does Samsung make another version that uses the same panel but has a better stand?

Edit: seems that the GW2760HS might be a good match. Maybe I'll order one of those and see how it turns out..

TN panels look awful in portrait mode.

VA panels suffer from color smearing with dark color transitions and aren't the greatest in portrait mode.

Unless your xRGB mini adds lag using the VP2770 @720p won't increase the delay. The only IPS/PLS faster/on par-ish with the VP2770 is the Asus VG23AH and Eizo Foris FS2333 and some of the Korean IPS such as the CrossOver 2720MDP Pivot or 2730MDP Pivot but they lack a warranty.

An HD capable CRT or regular CRT TV would be the best solution.

Thanks for the response NCX.

Good to know about TN panels!

I currently have a Sony PVM20M2MDU CRT (600 lines resolution) but am looking to get away from this as it's difficult to put it into portrait mode every time I get the urge to play Batsugun or something.

What do you think of the VG27AH versus the VP2770 for my application?

Forgot to mention that some people can see passive 3D filters in the form of faint, horizontal grey lines on light colors on models such as the VG2xAH.

The VP2770 will have better colors, less ghosting and is less reflective.

If you're willing to drop down to 23" I would go with the Foris FS2333 or the Mitsubishi RDT234WX. I have the Mitsubishi and input lag is very low, FS2333 is supposedly even lower.

As far as HDTVs go (32, 37, 42"), I would go with a Panasonic with Alpha-IPS, but these are older models and might be harder to find. There are some with native 720P I believe.

PVM has great picture quality but I agree it's a hassle to rotate.
