You can really tell when a company is turning into a stuffy proper corporation; they start banning all of the fun things in life in the name of professionalism. :D In the case of Linkedin, members of the oldest profession are no longer welcomed to create profiles there. Welcome to the stodgy old world of the new Linkedin. :D

The site welcomes users from a variety of professions, just not the oldest one, it seems. On Monday, LinkedIn added a clause to its user terms that bans working girls (and boys).

we all pay for it in one way or another. The guy that's willing to go on a 4 hour date and listen to her talk about some boring BS, then he gets to pay 50 dollars for dinner, another 40 for movies and snacks...

Honestly - why is it so illegal to bypass that - pay a hooker 100 dollars and save yourself about 3 or 4 hours of your life.

Regulate it -- tax it -- and then suddnly it's not a big deal. The bible beaters and puritan thinking would rather that money go to pimps and drugs and whatnot.

Groups of individuals telling other individuals what they can and can't do with their own bodies.

"Seems legit."

LinkedIn is prohibiting individuals who run services such as escorts, prostitution or adult massages and other similar professions that they are not welcome to advertise such services on LinkedIn's site. LinkedIn is not telling them they can't do what they want with their own bodies.

I was speaking about the above user's comments about prostitution being illegal, although LinkedIn's new policy enforces the view that people aren't allowed to do with their bodies what they choose.

This all day.. anyone who thinks dating and marriage isn't just glorified prostitution is in deep denial. Neither happen without the guy paying.

Not at all. If I own a restaurant and post a sign that says "No shirt, no shoes, no service" it doesn't mean I give a rat's ass about you going barefoot and topless elsewhere, I just don't want you doing it in MY restaurant.

Sugar mommas exist too you know. I had this coworker who hooked up with a bum package delivery guy. She put him up in her house, bought his man cave for him, had aobut 3x his income, and so on. Of course, it all ended because he was constantly sexting other women, but still...

linkedin enforces a policy for their website, if you don't like it, gtfo. How you transitioned into this boogeyman telling people what to do with ones body is beyond me...

Never understood this logic, he doesn't have to GTFO, complaining is a perfectly reasonable response to a policy change you don't like.

Oh I know and that is the same thing. I didn't mention it because it is so rare it doesn't even warrant mention. Point being, dating and marriage are nothing more than glorified prostitution.

Its not illegal, not everywhere at least. The biggest problem with prostitution of course is forced prostitution, but by legalizing it which allows prostitutes to get proper police protection for their trade and work from regulated secure establishments was seen in Europe to be the best solution to that.

Street prostitution is seen as the worst, as then you have pimps and the like and women can be victimized and have to go to dark alleys and can't complain to the police when they are wronged.

But, even though we know that the alcohol prohibition just increased criminality without eliminating the demand by any stretch of the imagination, we haven't learned that lesson with prostitution unfortunately.

Do you GTFO every time a decision is made that you are against? Do you leave the country four years at a time whenever the wrong president is elected, or do you reserve the right to voice your displeasure to weigh in for change and stay right where you are? ;)

Yep. A hooker is much more efficient.

Damn if that ain't the truth. Look at Howard Stern and his gold digging, spotlight chasing trophy wife.

Good.
Linkedin is like monster. job searches and connecting to professionals. it isn't some hook up/dating site.
those people can go to adult friend finder and the like.

Exactly. It is up to LinkedIn what kind of "atmosphere" they want to create. If they do not want to be associated with that sort of lifestyle, then they have every right to make that decision. It does not have anything to do with taking away people's choices. They can do what they want, LinkedIn simply reserves the right to tell them not to do it on their front door.

And prostitutes are, what, amateurs?

Its a job like any other, and while granted its not a lofty job, I respect a prostitute much more than say an ambulance chasing lawyer on linkedin.

Besides, linked in is not just the United States, and prostitution is perfectly legal in many countries that use LinkedIn and in several counties in Nevada in the US.

Howard Stern is probably one of the worst examples of the male side of humanity. It's no surprise that he managed to attract an equally awful counterpart as his better half.

Is LinkedIn useful in any way for anyone other than a tiny group of Silicon Valley insiders?

I have a profile I haven't checked or updated for years, and it was a zero when I was searching for a job. I just applied some place on Monster and got in.

You're going to ruin the restaurant and movie industries.

I do find it strange that prostitution is the one vice that doesn't seem to have defenders or enablers that get airtime in the media.

Wow man, I'm sorry you've had a series of shitty relationships or are in a relationship right now where you think your basically in a form of prostitution. Prostitutes are for one thing, getting laid. If you're getting married just to get laid you sir are a moron.

Oh hey I have to pay for stuff like food, rent, utilities, and hey I get sexual favors, and companionship, and someone else to do stuff around the house so every chore isn't mine, and someone to talk to... well damn that's the same as prostitution! Lets ignore the fact I'd have to pay for that shit anyways even if someone else wasn't around. Girlfriend/wife doesn't work at all? Just sits around eating BonBons Peg Bundy style all day long doing no housework at least? Yeah... everyone has a fucked up relationship that's tantamount to prostitution, not just you.

I see this from time to time, a bunch of people read a story and then tell it on other sites and before you know it everybody accepts it as the honest truth.

Heh - anyone who would get married *just* to get laid -- really really really sucks at math if you factor in things like a divorce and such.

I'm only 31, single for the past few years, only 3 serious relationships. Sprinkle in some booty calls here and there. Honestly, I'm pretty damn happy with no wife, no g/f, nobody to waste my time or money on because I have better more fun things to do on my own. I'm hyper independent - I love doing everything on my own so that works out quite nice.

Add in the trend that women these days, well let's face it, most that are in my age range already have 2 or 3 kids from previous men, usually not educated, and just have no direction in life. The ones with a career, no kids, an education are either taken, or bat shit insane. I love the lines I see on dating websites here and there when a woman will talk about how independent she is but then absolutely lose her mind if you propose going dutch on a date. Women want to be treated traditionally (dinner/movies/doesn't pay for anything, just shows up and looks pretty) but they don't want to ACT traditionally.

Oh and just for fun -- if a woman hits a man -- bet your ass he should be able to hit her back. I'm 100% for non-violence any any aspect of real life, but I'm also 100% for defending ones self by any means necessary.

Should, but good luck with that. I've never hit a woman, but that is a fantasy of mine to be put in a situation that requires me to closed fist full force punch a woman in the face. Like she's a terrorist with a bomb, and I have to knock or out cold in one swing or something. One can dream.

Lets break it down..

Ignoring the rent and other mandatory expenses that everyone has.

Dating:
Unless you are some sort of moral holier than thou type, the point is to get laid more often than not. Well lets be honest, the end game is getting laid period. Is that happening without quite a bit of money spent? Nope. Actually it boils down to a ton of money spent as well as tons of hours doing pointless shit. Don't want to play the pay for dinner, movies, doing random crap, Valentines day crap? You aren't getting laid..Ever. Valentines day being the absolute worst offender in the mix, honestly what a completely bullshit holiday. There is nothing less romantic about forced romance and the absolute demand for flowers, cards, candy and other nonsense.

Marriage -
1) Not happening without a ring (money)
2) Not happening without a wedding (money, and yes justice of the Peace counts the same, cheap but still)
3) Not happening without at least one party obligating to completely support the other. (money)
The true Irony of marriage is it is the most expensive option of the 3 and results in you getting laid far less than any of them. Not to mention the fact that if you end up marrying someone who just doesn't give a damn, doesn't take care of themselves and you are a guy...you are stuck. Because the lovely law system in this country makes it so if you get fed up and leave as the guy, you lose everything. God forbid there are kids in the mix then you really get your ass screwed to the wall. Welcome to financial suicide gentlemen, hope it was worth it.

The things you learn about people in this forum...

shady jobs are not the point of linkedin.
like i said, got to adult friend finder or some other site for exactly that.

It sounds like you're trying really hard to convince yourself you're better off alone than with someone. Granted, I know quite a few people are fine with that, but they don't go to the lengths you do to say all of us who got married are complete fools and hold themselves intellectually superior to us because they've realized that "fact".

I guess if you want to base all of your life's decisions on how much it's going to cost you financially, you can, but to me that's a pretty limited way to look at life.
