Looking for a good / budget board to pair with this QX6850 CPU.

DDR 3, nvidia SLI are my requirements

QX6850?

pretty sure the nvidia 790i sli boards are going to be your only option and those are still going for a pretty penny

someone please correct me if i'm wrong about the DDR3 + SLi being a huge limiting factor on a 775 board

Yeah thanks, I fixed the QX6850

I'm replacing a bad asus striker extreme... It has DDR2, and it looks like the striker extreme ii has DDR3

I was trying to build rebuild an old computer, but maybe it's a pipe dream :(

No - the better option would be either the ASUS P5G41M-LX2/GB (DDR2) or P5G41M-LX Plus (DDR3). The limiting factor has generally been RAM capacity (all too many LGA775 boards that are still extant only have two RAM slots - that applies to both ASUS boards I named).

I utterly refuse to recommend multi-GPU for a dead socket, and LGA775 is four YEARS dead. While you may find either ASUS board brick and mortar, Amazon (not Newegg) would be your best bet.
