ASUS Z77 Motherboards - Official Support Thread

The chassis header is 4-pin PWM as per the manual, but it works both ways. The problem is that it doesn't modulate with temperature changes. I run Linux so Asus-ware is of no use to me.

Right now I'm using two resistors in series (Noctua ULNAs) which gets a 1200rpm fan down to 500, but some won't start. I'm thinking of using a PWM Y-splitter to control both fans form the CPU header.

The chassis header is 4 pin but it regulates only in DC mode AFAIK and that is linked to the CPU temp reported. So it won't modulate in PWM mode anyway. If you are running Linux then you are limited to mods as you have found out.

Thank you, I thought so too, the Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 regulates exactly as you describe. But this one doesn't with either type fan, I tried already.

Any other ideas? Maybe I could update the BIOS, but the last one bricked after the update.

I doubt its the bios, and as you're on Linux I'm not sure what to advise. The bios should not corrupt if flashed properly.

Already responded to your post on ROG forums. Not sure what the problem is, you're the only person that's reported it and I'm no ACPI guru.

I recently purchased a P8Z77-V Deluxe | INTEL i7 3770K 3.5G | GEFORCE GTX660 Ti | G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 PC3 12800 Memory Model F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL | PSU Rosewill BRONZE Series RBR1000-M 1000W I have searched and couldnt find this exact problem but anyway. Here goes. The first time I turned on the power the Motherboard came back with a Q 55 code. It would not go past that. So I started reading the forum found similar problems with other users but no one actually had fixed this that I could find. I started taking each ram stick and tried it in all the 4 Ram slots. when I finally got to B1 the thing started up then I tried the other stick in all 4 slots and it only would go to POST in the B1 slot.I then put the second stick into B2 it is now running on that config. This is all bad cause I wanted to run at 32GB of ram. After I got past post the second time with 16GB it showed on the Monitor with CPU Fan Error! so I took the CPU fan and plugged it into the CPU_Opt port and still got the error. I went into the BIOS and saw that the fan was only getting about 580 rpm. I took the fan and plugged it into the CHA_Fan slot and it went to 1080 rpm. But obviously it still has the CPU Fan error! So my question is: What am I to do about these issues?!

Have you checked under Hardware Monitor==>Fan Control option? If CPU Fan is set to Quiet, maybe set it to Turbo may help. If not, maybe you got a bad board to start with.

That's what I'm thinking! I set it to turbo did not change the RPM too much. I think it is the board because I checked all the other stuff other people were saying about not getting to POST with Ram in the A1 - A2 slots and they were mostly due to mismatched RAM but my RAM was bought as a set and I still cant get it to POST until I move the RAM to B1 - B2... What is the Current BIOS ver. presently?

Well the thing is I finally got the MOBO to post by putting the RAM in the last two banks.. Finally got the OS installed and used Fan Expert to fix the fan by putting the CPU fan to full power... flashed the BIOS and still will not POST with RAM in the first two banks.... The Wifi is very scetchy every other time or two I boot the PC and the Wifi locks up. It sees the Router but will not connect. I have to reset the router and it will connect.... I reboot and it will conect... Reboot and it will not connect.... Repeat wash and rince... And wile I was online just updating software and all the sudden I get a popup telling me the intel Network on-board card just stopped working and it wasn't even being used... When I was installing the Utilities from the support CD 3 or 4 would not install telling me that the hardware could not be found... I'm over this board... I'm getting an RMA ASAP... I am not impressed... ASUS used to be a good board. OH well Live and learn...

You just happened to get a bad board. Consider how many boards Asus sell, there's a chance some boards will go bad and yours just happens to be one of them. Don't let it ruin your whole experience with Asus' boards overall. I'm very pleased with them ever since started using them like 15 or 20 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I have come across a few bad ones during those years, but I never let those ruin my experience with them overall. You won't find any perfect manufacturers.

I got ahold of Tech support and they are supposed to be sending me an Email sometime today so I can get another board sent to me on advanced exchange! If it works out I will keep uing ASUS. I used to have another board a wile back it worked pretty well I think it was a M2N32 for VISTA and it had a problem I found out that kept popping RAM Sticks always in the A1 bank... I thought I would give them one more chance to see if they have improved teir boards... LOL :D Well this wil deffinatly be their last chance to show me something...

Well I just got my RMA and this is ridiculous they want me to fill out 2 forms they have to be faxed signed and emailed back, Then they need to put a msrp price of $330 on my CC even though I didn't pay that price. Then if they find some errant scratch or something I have to pay full retail for a board that possibly could be used and or refurbished... Oh and get this they want the forms to be hand signed... uh my Motherboard is broke!!!!! how am I supposed to print these forms out?? And I don't own a fax machine!!!! I live 36 miles from my nearest UPS or FEDEX... Uhhhh....o_O Well I guess I learned my lesson buying an ASUS Board.

You are waiting smth special from Asus support? Goshhh man leave it and change to Gigabyte or EVGA = they are superb then shtty Asus with their support

I know that this isn't a motherboard issue but what does it take to get a hold of your RMA support? I filed a couple of claims for my Xonar STX months ago and never got a response.

Seriously, your customer service is still a damn joke and is why I avoid your products.

Its consistently bad.

Contact a member of the customer loyalty team and they'll sort it out for you. Either cl-benson or
cl-albert (or both). Just use @asus.com after their names for email.

Neither address works.

Why am I not surprised.

Should I just throw this thing in the trash?

Amen to that.

I havent used ASUS for a few years now but when I did, their CS was extremely terrible.

I would go as far as saying that in my brief experience of CS issues, they are by far the worst.

Once I sent an email via their own built in english support webpage and the replies I got back were ALL in chinese, these were real replies and not just automated replies.

Atleast she could write her name in English though, Rose was her name if I recall.

As you can expect I got nowhere fast, in the end I had to phone the laptop division which I think, cant recall now but I think it was based in the netherlands ? who then got the issue fixed for me, the issue being a motherboard for a desktop.

I will say this, the female I got hold of in the laptop division helped me out good, but apart from that Asus support is totally useless.

TBH, I am not sure if I would buy Asus again simply because of the issues that may arise again should I ever need an RMA. Not saying Never, but highly unlikely.

I have the P8Z77-I Deluxe and I was wondering if there is any way to link the chassis fan speed to the GPU temp.

While I understand the rationale for having both fans linked to the CPU temp, it doesn't quite make sense these days. My GPU benefits far more from fresh air than the CPU does. This is specifically while gaming. Most CPU's have giant honking heatsinks so regardless of if the airflow is good or great, they perform fine.

Anyways, if there is any way to do this, I would greatly appreciate someone enlightening me.

In that case, PM Cl-albert via ROG Forums. He has an account there.

Can't do much else for ya as I don't work in service.

http://rog.asus.com/forum/member.php?105838-cl-Albert

That sure as shit isn't going to work either. I can't even log into that forum for some reason now.

God damn your company sucks. Seriously wtf. Its as if they go out of their way to make things as irritating as possible.

How much of a headache does this have to be? Is it really too much to send me a damn rma number and an address to send it to? WTF!

What log in issues are you having - some kind of error displayed?

Albert cc'd me on his pm's back to you today and he has responded (see below). So let's see if we can clear up that login issue.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the problems and can you tell me you rma number to check in our system?

If you have any information posted on the forums that you want me to check, feel free to provide the link, otherwise, I'll just check your information in the rma.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Albert

I can't log in. When you go to reset the password on the forum it links you to reset your Asus password. They should be the same either way. I just can log in on the forum. I have no problem on the Asus site that it links me to.

I just tried your IM support. That was a joke.

Albert says he's found a case number: RMA number USPC320837

Is that it?

I might be able to reset your password from here.

The only email that I ever got was with this rma number.

USA1171424

I never got a follow up email that it said that I was supposed to get with instructions on where to send in the card.

I forwarded that to Albert on your behalf. If your contact details are in that record he should be able to do the rest from his side now.

Raja,

Any chance there will be a 64 bit version of AI Suite 2, more specifically Fan Xpert II?

Thanks

Win 7 and Win 8 already have 64 bit Fan Xpert+ versions for your motherboard (taken from your sig). There won't be a Fan Xpert II for your board at any time as it requires different on-board hardware.

Thanks for all of the help. Its much appreciated.

NP. That RMA number you gave me was actually for a video card back in 2011 according to records. From that I think they have your address details so should be able to setup the process from there.

OK well I think I grabbed the 1.00.15 version of FX2 from the ProV page because looks like the board I have has been end of lifed. Anyway I found its support page downloaded the AI suite v20001_P8z77-v_LE-S_XPWin7_8, uninstalled FX2 (which was working just fine) rebooted and installed the FanXpert+ from this package it crashes with --Assertion failed: index<Count(), file..\src\bios\Sensor.cpp,line1503, and does not address the original question I had, because just like the working FanXpert 2 this one dumps 8 32bit processes on the machine. :( So looks like I am going to use FX2 because it runs and keeps the case fans from sounding like shuttle engines ! BTW thx for your BIOS guide on the ROG site I found that helpful.

Hmm okay. Can you give me a full system config please?

Also, an outside bet, can you try running the AI Suite uninstall cleaner from here after you uninstall AI Suite and try again? See if that fixes it. If not, let me know and I will ask HQ to replicate the Win 8 64 bit issue with the version for your board.

Password reset doesn't work. Well, the password that they sent to me doesn't.

That was me that sent the reminder. Let me see if there's another way for me to reset.

Also, did Jolene from the CLM team contact you yet? Please let me know :)

EDIT: Just got a message back from the admin re your password. They have asked if you can reset via the VIP login. Apprently both are now tied and the reset needs to be initiated from there. Not sure what went wrong in the process of your previous password. We have also manually added you to verified users so try the old password first and if that does not work then reset via VIP and we'll see if that works.
