Motivate - TJ07

wow, thats super cool. ive been looking for a hdd hot swap thing for a while. Did you buy this or make it? I know corsair sells one as an upgrade kit to their 800d.

Hey!
Thanks :)
As of right now its in the prototype stage, but it will be available for sale once we hammer down the details. More pics to come :D

I also have some case modding that I just never seem to get around to doing. Lots of cable management has gone by the wayside, and to be honest, that needs to be done asap for me to be happy at all. Still lots of work.
Maybe I should change the title to "Long Term: " lol

In regards to the Galaxy 660ti's, I love these cards, together they are probably the best bang/buck you can find. Individually, with a slight overclock, they keep pace with GTX670's and together i'm getting ~75 average ~90 peak FPS in BF3 at 2560x1440.
i'll have more detailed information regarding scaling etc.

These things are beasts. Best bang for your buck under $700

The build's looking awesome so far. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Just curious, what clocks are you running currently with the cards in SLI?

Hey Galaxy,
When i took this unscientific measurement (fraps) the cards were at 1100mhz each.
I'll be posting a more indepth look at your amazing pair of cards soon, I just need to take some time to run some propper benchmarks and ensure i get the best/most reliable results :D

So while in development, I thought.... i'm bored. Lets take some pictures.
I'm in the holiday spirit, so i thought I'd share:

IMG_1191_zpsf88608b2.jpg

But then again, that has nothing to do with the pc...
I think this block is Supreme :D

Some sleeving shots?

IMG_1200_zps58add09c.jpg

So this is something i need to work on. I need to come up with a mounting option for my rad. This candy box has seen better days :D

Really liking the pcie power cabling. I've thought about swapping out the ones in my own rig for something more custom. I keep wondering if anyone makes any PC power cables with the hyper-flexible ropey consistency of Monster power chords. I forget what it was that made them like this, but they were super easy to work with. Despite the low gauge and thick insulation, they were almost like string.

Gee, this build log sure looks familiar, exactly like one I saw that was started on another forum and abandoned, same mascot and all:rolleyes:

I'm glad you found the build here then :) I'll keep it updated here and at a few more places i frequent :)

That's good to hear. I realize that sometimes circumstances change, and although it's rare, I've seen a few good build logs posted that died before they were finished. This one deserves to reach completion!

Hello Everyone!
I'm planning on an update, within the next 2-3 days. This will be the last update until I move!!!!
Only one more week (moving day is Feb 1st....) so expect lots of photos of the new place, and the horrible mess we will have lol. So many boxes!!!!!

But before that day, please expect an update... Brought to you by the color Blue.
Three guesses what it'll be :D

I couldnt make you wait.

The postman came today and delivered me these!

So, time to operate!!!
This is what it looks like right now:

Time to take this off:

Great cards too. They are the 3GB Galaxy 660ti. In SLI these things are beasts, they can take on pretty much everything out there, and an amazing value for what you pay.
I love the coolers too. i wish i could keep them but i wanted these beauties under water :D

What do you think of this :Bleu Mod!

I like it; I like it a lot! :)

The flexible SLI connector doesn't look all that great to me though. Surely you have a hard one lying around?

How do you like them?? I've been on the fence about the FC blocks vs the universals

Thanks xDezor. I don't have one laying around, however i do have a solution to that problem that is coming soon :)

Hey Inches,
So far so good. These EK blocks are pretty decent, and the cards react well to additional volts. I'll show some overclocking results later :) However, for peice of mind I do plan on developing a solution to get some air over the ram and VRM's

Howevever, I'm VERY confident at the build quality in these boards, and their ability to deal with a little extra heat. But, Yes a solution is coming :)

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well.. especially with volting becoming necessary for OC's.. but looking good so far. I've got your BT log bookmarked, so I've been following the build for a while

Thanks Inches! I greatly appreciate the support :)

There should be a few more build related updates coming in the next week or so but in the meantime i'll show you what i'm working on....

Moving!
Getting everything all packed up. Moving in with the Girlfriend on Friday. We're renting a condo Just north of downtown (Yonge and sheppard for those in Toronto) :)
so everything is in a state of disarray :S

IMG_1261_zpsad82ee42.jpg

But i think i have everything packed pretty tightly :)
IMG_1260_zps127b5bf7.jpg

So on the docket?
Move. Get a new desk (another fun thing to show you all :)), take pictures, and Celebrate!!!!

Here is a quick floorplan of the new place. Keep in mind however, everything is kinda backwards, Our unit is reversed. (kitchen on the right etc.)

i'm still waiting on some stuff from ColdZero, and i have a in depth look at this SLI setup from Galaxy coming up as well... so stay tunes while i push these beautiful and amazing cards until they start screaming :)
On that note. I really want you guys to take a look at these 660ti's. in SLI and the individual 3GB of ram, there is PLENTY of room to play with even at high resolutions. If you're thinking of spending 600-700 on a GPU soon-ish... I'd want to 100% tell you to pick up these cards, who are usually on sale on NCIX anyways :)

Hey Everyone!

We're in, safe and sound :)
New internet connection too... and its lightening fast!

So bare with me as i document... Life Mod 1.0: Moving in with the Girlfriend

So it took us roughly about 3 hours to pack up, move and load into our new place :) Where do we start Emma?

IMG_1288.jpg

We have soooo much mess!
IMG_1291.jpg

But at least we're chipping away at it. i can see countertop!
Oh and all the appliances are Whirlpool. I'll shoot some final pics with a better camera (hopefully, if i can convince emma that we 'need it')
IMG_1293.jpg

Slowly getting everything tucked away.... man this takes forever!
IMG_1295.jpg

Time to check out this view!!! (sorry for the focus... I was tired.)
IMG_1296.jpg

IMG_1297.jpg

Okay, time for bed... I think we have done enough for one day.
IMG_1300.jpg

So this morning i took these:
The new desk!!!!

Oh, and Motivate made it safe and sound.... this was my biggest fear. I didn't want anything to happen to it mid move.
She looks wonderful on this certain Scandinavian bookcase :)

The TV area is slowly getting there, and im starting to really like what i see

i think thats enough for now.
More 'final shots' to come :)

Hey Guys,
What do to think of this new design for the front panel?

Matthew-front_01.jpg

Matthew-front_02.jpg

Matthew-front_03.jpg

I'm thinking of extending the top portion of the backlight all the way to the top, but keeping the LED's at the bottom so that it diffuses all the way up, so that the top portion looks black (like the MKII.... Charles is so goddamned inspiring)

What do you all think?

Header.jpg

That looks insane. Can't agree more about murdermod/box being amazing and inspiring.

Any way you change up the leds will look good with that imo

Looks a little Murdermod-ish in my opinion. Granted those are jaw-dropping, I would think to go a different route just to be a little more original.

Would look sweet either way tho!!

I prefer option 1, as it has more flair then just a single red line imo.
Regardless, any front panel made by Ricardo will look great.
If it resembles a Murdermod/Murderbox design, so be it, that pays respect to an important part of the TJ07 heritage, and still looks good on any TJ07 build.

Very good job on the build log, looking forward to seeing what you choose for the front panel cover.

@DerComissar - Thanks for your input. I agree. I'm going to take a look at a few options for the front panel before i make a decision :) Thanks for the positive comments :)

onto the update !

I got a box in from Portugal today.
The contents can be found below :)

Time to install the new midplate!!!

Goodbye old cable method!
IMG_1361.jpg

IMG_1363.jpg

Alright,
So problem.

The holes for the PCI-e cables are a bit too small for the sleeve..... time to get a little creative i think...

So, i have to un-sleeve everything in order for it to fit through..

IMG_1365.jpg

IMG_1366.jpg

Time to re-sleeve!!!

i think this color option works pretty well :) I'll need to order new sleeving and heatshrink soon so i can complete the bottom section.

IMG_1370.jpg

And here is the end product.... well, the somewhat complete end product.

What do you guys think?

Definitely following this build, great job so far.

Is that lighted flooring being lit by LEDs or EL fabric?

Thanks Dsiglin. Its lit by LED's and a few different types of plexi. You can get them from ColdZero :)

Now for a mini update:
I decided that while i wait for a few more things to be manufactured, that I might as well create a little bit of a SLI Scaling update. For this mini 'review', I overclocked each GPU to the following:

Overclock.jpg

These cards came overclocked to 1006mhz on the core. So I tried to get as much out of the core as i could, while maintaining stability. I think that my PSU held be back a little bit, as the second core wasn't 100% stable beyond these clocks. As well, the ram didn't respond as well as i would have liked. But, the 3GB per card provided plenty of power what i want to play :)

For each test, I used both stock values and the above attained overclock.

So to start things off, the only synthetic benchmark i used was Heaven 4.0.
Each benchmark and game was played at 2560x1440.
The following settings were used: Each game/benchmark was done with the highest possible graphical settings. I'll break each out individually as i display. More games to be added as soon as i have them purchased :)

Heaven 4.0
DX11
Quality: Ultra
Tessellation: Extreme
AA: 4x

HeavenBenchmark.jpg

As seen here, single cards were average around 19-20 fps, despite the overclock. While the SLI setup was 30-31 average fps. This reflects a 50% scalability on this synthetic benchmark.

DeadSpace 3
DX11
Quality: Very High
AA: 4x

DeadSpace3.jpg

Dead Space 3 didn't really test my GPU's like i thought they would. I guess that's something you can expect form a console port. Single cards ranged from 85fps stock to over 100fps when overclocked. SLI scaling took a hit as well. I think this has to do with lack of a SLI profile for this game. With SLI overclock numbers reaching just about 120fps. This would represent a ~20% increase when in SLI.

BF3
DX11
Quality: Ultra
MSAA: 4x
Anisotropic Filter: 16x
HBAO

For this, i'm also including sourced GTX Titan #'s from a review site that bench marked this game at 2560x1440. I'm including these as this would provide a really strong value assessment to these to cards. This data is sourced and all credit for the GTX Titan goes to by Ryan Smith & Rahul Garg at Anandtech.

BF3.jpg

BF3 is where these cards shine with regards to my testing. Single Overclocked card tested at 44.9 fps. In SLI, these cards were able to pump out 84.7 average fps. This results in 89% increase. This is by far the best scalabilty I've seen through my testing. In comparison to the Titan, These two cards at stock, and overclocked beat it. Not bad for cards that on sale can be had at $550.00.

Conclusion:

This conclusion needs to be prefaced by stating that the review is far from done. New titles will be added and I'll continue to push these cards hard. However, the biggest thing to take away from this is that when using the Titan as a base of comparison, these cards in SLI really shine. An 11% increase in fps at half the price of the Titan is nothing to complain about.

If you guys have any questions or concerns please let me know and i'll be more than happy to address them :)

I'm very happy to announce that a new sponsor has just signed on.
But you guys will have to wait and see who it is...

Hint: They are effing awesome, and a really big name in the industry.

Massive change coming.

Like, really, really, really big.

New sponsor to be announced :)

teaser1.jpg

"Change is sometimes very hard"
I lived that last night.

However, stay tuned, because although change is hard, sometimes its VERY VERY VERY good ;)

Whatever the change is, I sure hope you're getting rid of those re-sleeved cables going through the mid-plate. Those look terrible, I'm sorry to say. I'd've opened up the holes, or even cut out a rectangular section or something.

I've decided to go a little nuts with different content. So basically, each platform will have different, unique content :D. So I'll probably have to start another thread :D

And for those who dont like facebook etc, i'll post links to all my videos, tweets, instagram pics. etc...
Time to take over ze world!

As well, as a part of my Youtube portion of this build
I'll film portions (unboxing, and hand held review parts) using my GSIII and my webcam to start. Once i get a 1080p capable camera, then i'll use that!
But for now, its this little guy:

IMG_1405.jpg

The rest will be revealed later as things change an adapt!

Expect some big news coming in the next few weeks!
Oh, and follow me on instagram. Some WC previews up on there today too
