Well Grid 2 is launching May 27th, and I was super excited for it but then I found out it has no cockpit view which to me is very disappointing, however the game does look like a lot of fun... I'm kinda torn if I want to buy or wait, anyways any thoughts on the game?

The cockpit view was cut because of consoles. I am not trolling, they said it themselves, they didn't have enough power. So I suggest just waiting until it comes out, who knows what else was cut.

I still love Grid. I hope this one is just as good. I feel like the Dirt series has gone downhill...

Just a few days ago I saw a Dirt 3 demo and it got me thinking about Grid and if there was or will be a sequel. Lo and behold I saw this on Steam! I'm actually looking forward to this game. My copy of Grid came with a video card (or was it the other way around :)). I probably won't buy this game until it hits the steam $10 deal bin, but I hope this one is as great as the second.

I wonder if the pc version will get the same content as the console version.

You know it will.

No cockpit view is kinda dumb. First GRID had it, all the DIRTs have it, and most racing games in general do as well.

Also, I'm not buying the dev's answer. If Forza 4 and GT5 can look as damn good as they do and also have very nice cockpits I don't see why GRID 2 can't.

No cockpit view. No buy. I am a huge fan of the first Grid. But no cockpit view is a deal breaker.

They can say that the consoles can't handle it all they want. Fact of the matter is , their just following the trend of LAZY development.

Their just riding on the coattails of the first game hoping that people will overlook this issue. What a bunch of bollocks.

I haven't paid any attention to this game since the one trailer hyped the game as being a simulator. They removed cockpit view and then added telemetry? Forza has had both since the beginning of the series...

Agreed 1000x. As much as i absolutely loved GRID, I'm not buying a racing game without a cockpit view.

Yeah, this is a huge passover for anyone who wants a more realistic game. If you are looking for the NFS/Project Gotham type game play, this will probably be your bet.

I can't wait for this, GRID and DIRT let you drive like an absolute fucking asshole and I love it. You can play as dirty as you want as long as you don't wreck yourself. I loved this one track in DIRT where there was a cliff face on the side of the road, I had hitting that shit down to a science. Perfect hundred mile per hour barrel rolls every time.

I hope they don't realisticify the fun out of the series.

This is the thing. Dirt was originally Colin McRae's Dirt, which was originally Colin McRae Rally, which was originally supposed to be a Rally simulator. The exact opposite of "realisticify"-ing the games is happening. They are taking the various series to arcades-ville.

Call of Duty of the racing world.
Yep.

I had lots of fun with online multiplayer in the original Grid, all with cockpit view. Unfortunately, due to this being removied in Grid 2...I will not be purchasing until it can be had for $10 or less.

Well, Grid 1 was not a simulation by any means. It was a happy medium between Sim and arcade.

I guess I'm one of the few weirdos that hates driving in cockpit view. I always do trailing cam.

Loved GRID, looked forward to GRID 2 but the notion that this was held back by consoles is piss poor and disheartening.Again, obviously the PC could handle it but they don't want to "short"the console version?Lazy IMO. Makes me wonder what else is slighted because the consoles can't handle it.

Horrible news. I loved the immersion that the cockpit view gave you.

GRID was one of absolute favorites along side DiRT 1 & 2.

Well, money talks. How well did it sell on PC?

I don't think sales are a factory, the first one was widely popular on the PC. Fact of the matter is their just being lazy.

And if they expect the second one to sell as well as the first one did, they are sorely mistaken. People want the cockpit view. Without it, its going to turn off a huge amount of their fanbase.

Looks like they are taking copying notes from EA's play book

"How to alienate your fanbase" :

First, make a good game, get them hooked.
Second, make a second title, but offer less content
finally , make a third title, offer less content but offer DLC.

Glad I read this thread. No cockpit mode. Fucking cum dumpsters. I won't even buy it on a 75% steam sale. Console shit. Going backwards...And it is cheap devs, not lazy. It costs money to create the cockpits. Fuck them. Fuck them along with the inferior subhumans at EA. GRID was their last good game in my opinion. And they have a tendency to drop support WAY to quickly after a game is released. Fact: they dropped support 4 MONTHS after releasing Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Codemasters have turned into a shit company that is trying to mimic EA: release the SAME game every year with only a few tweaks to differentiate the games. F1 being a prime example. And now they are going one step further: taking AWAY options.

Inferiors.

This thread proves the internet hate machine is hitting critical mass. Sure having an opinion is one thing but RAGING over a first world problem = unbelievable.

So raging over a view model of the game that is the most popular way to play games of this genre to be a 'first world problem'? You from a 3rd world country or something?

Cock pit view is essential, goddamn necessary in 99.9999999999999999% of racing games..... they just got rid of it to make it more approachable to the demographic that play NFS and COD.

Anyone with any form of racing setup or peripherals will have lost all interest (read: people with money who will actually buy your game and not torrent it).

I think some posters on here are Dev's because you have no clue, like a teenage girl clueless.

1 - Helmet cam is not the most popular way to play.
2 - I prefer bumper cam and not helmet cam so I don't think it is essential.
3 - I don't have a racing setup and I'll still probably buy the game.
4 - Not a Dev

Welcome to /ignore.

Yeah, Codemaster's "data"...these are the same bullshit data "arguments" like Microsoft's "data" that showed people don't use the "Start" button. It's a bullshit copout. "Careful consideration"....yeah when a corporation with a history of being pathetic (aforementioned dropping support 4 months after release) uses corp speak and "data", they are just blowing smoke. And the result is always the same: the product doesn't sell as good as the previous versions. And for a very good reason.

This is the same apologist bullshit that some people came up with when that other inferior product came out: SimCity.

Also, what is it with people and "welcome to /ignore"? Like your that important that we worry that we might end up on your precious ignore list . Give it a rest, last time I checked :text: didn't kill anyone nor spread diseases.

You made the point. NO one buys Codemaster's games anymore. Their are better, cheaper (free) solutions out there. That is why this game will sell 50,000 copies -- unless it comes with a pre-order TF2 hat that you can trade.

/ignore my ass.

So according to data collected, just because something isn't popular with the masses, it should totally be thrown to the wayside?

Give me a fucking break. You can spin it anyway you want, fact is Codemasters is lazy and cheap.

That being said and me being the customer, they don't deserve my money.

I loved Grid, but I only played it in cockpit mode. All other modes seem to ruin immersion, as such I'm probably going to pass on it and pick up the much more realistic MotoGP13 in June then most likely Project Cars in November.

So much anger over such a trivial thing.

Don't like it? Don't buy it. Simple as that.

You don't need to make post after post after post trying to convince the world that your view is the only right view.

I won't miss cockpit view at all. I will probably end up picking this up.

Then we won't need forums. Forums are not a "lets all suck each others dick" arena. And by voicing our opinions strongly about something, we hope to show that we want the game to be better than it is because of dev bullshit. Maybe if devs actually read forums, their games wouldn't tank like the fucking titanic most of the time.

I could fill a 10 page book with a list of games that sucked just in the last year alone, and didn't do well because devs/management didn't listen to the OUTSPOKEN playerbase who said that these pathetic decisions were ruining the game. We wish to thwart these decisions by voicing our disapproval. The "argument" of "don't like it, don't buy it" is a bullshit argument just like "don't like the laws of this country, move out". It's stupid, and dim witted. Change only happens when people speak their minds, not "shutup". Society is not a static organism. Deal with it.

While I disagree with the company removing a camera angle, whether or not a niche group of people use it, I'm pretty sure your "fact" is completely wrong and invalid as you have no data at all to back up that lousy statement.

I never use the cockpit view because I have a wheel....why do I want to see my hands on a wheel while looking at a monitor and seeing another set of hands on a wheel that are slightly out of sync with my own hands on the wheel?

Truth!

YOU don't use it,so we should abandon it completely. Where are the watery tarts to set this discussion strait?

way too much anger about it. THE INTERNET IS OUTRAGED ONCE AGAIN!

I am angry because I care. I would like a new racing game to play, but I also would like them to give us the same amount of options they gave us in the first game. (No destruction derby mode either)

Why is that so hard? Why make a new game and offer less options? It just baffles and pisses me off.

That's kind of odd. Hopefully they didn't take out a bunch of other stuff too. I usually play in over the hodd view anyways which looks to be in the game so I might check this out sometime. I loved Dirt 1 (2 and 3 were pretty good but I like 1 the best) and always meant to try Grid but just never did.

I always play Grid 1 in cockpit view, but as long as there is first person view I'll be alright. Omitting the feature is more developer laziness even Real Racing and NFS Shift on iOS/Android have cockpit view.

It just sucks cause you can't look at the mirrors, the tachometer, speed gauges, the windshield effects like rain, mud and broken glass. Overall it just lowers my overall immersion level.

Oh by all means, like I said I do not approve of them removing it. While I may not use it now, I know for DAMN sure I'd use the cockpit view for when I purchase the Oculus Rift.

I'm still cautiously optimistic for Grid 2. I really did love the first game and hope they didn't make the mistake of making it "more accessible."

To take this slightly away from the "no cockpit view" rage, the reason they said they removed it was because "the amount of system resources" cockpit view took up. But here's the thing I don't get. In cockpit view, you actually have to render less stuff. You have a more limited POV of the environment (only through the windows), as opposed to the whole screen. I just don't see how cockpit view uses more system resources.

I assume they meant developer resources, as in the work to model that shit / get the displays and gadgets set up, etc.
