Any great ones to buy out there with a deal? Im currently running a monoprice headset & not sure how these compare to other headsets out there at this price point.

The best deal I can think of is Razer Kracken Pro, seems like a good deal to me.

I have had this set for a couple months now, love it. Comfortable, good sound, definitely good directional audio. I've never used another headset that did positional audio (5.1) so I don't have anything to compare it to but I think that the reviews on Amazon speak for themselves. Haven't used the mic so can't comment on that.

Overall quite happy with the purchase.

Gamecom 780 by Plantronics.

I'd recommend any of the Corsair headsets. I had the USB HS1's and now the Vengeance 1500's and I love them both.

There are USB and analog variations.

Damn, those look nice. I have a pair of 380's and 307's. I like them.

Those seem like a killer deal for the price.

Like I said, I don't have a lot to compare them to, but I can't say anything bad about them. You can turn the surround sound on and off with a button on the headset and it really works. Don't know if it is actually multiple drivers or if it is software (I believe it is software) but its legit. And they aren't too expensive.

How comfortable are they? Also, do they connect straight into the sound card or are they that USB crap ? I always thought amazon had great deals but nowadays there deals are matched by many other retailers out there...I saw them at walmart for the same price.

They're USB. I bit on them, as they're a good price (refurb like new for 41). Will post impressions in 2 days.

If there USB does that mean they dont even use the sound card you have installed? I personally never liked USB as it did not use the sound card I have installed in my PC.

First impressions:
They look very nice, feel sturdy. The box came with the driver software, but I have no idea if it's up to date. They feel good on my head, very comfortable.

Soundwise, it's a bit disappointing (a bit boomy on the bass, highs are lacking). Definitely switch to regular mode, rather than Dolby Music, for music. The fake surround just sounds extremely flat with no soundstage. Overall, I like the sound from my Sennheiser HD 201's better. They're extremely loud - I generally keep them at about 3% of max volume (at max volume they're like bad speakers

Mic works great according to my friends. They sound strange though over Mumble - almost like they're in the room/in my head. Somewhat unpleasant.

I got the steelseries siberia v2 for my wife. Granted I got the USB ones which are more expensive but they have straight analog as well for cheaper. I am now going to be picking up myself a pair over my sennheiser 280 pro's.

Just some of my thoughts why I like them. They could be either pros or cons depending on what you want.
  • Not sealed like my 280's so you can hear more outside noise which is useful for me.
  • Retractable mic so when you aren't using it or if you have kids to keep them from grabbing it
  • Comfortable. They are pretty dang light feeling on the top of the head and don't put crazy pressure on my ears.
  • Haven't had many gaming mics so not sure if they all have this feature but. . . It has a switch on the cord for turning the mic off quick and a quick volume control for the headphones.

Note: They have gone on sale in the past. The USB ones were around $80ish in December so you might see some more deals later.

I am looking for a true surround sound heatset that has both a mic & the sq is amazing in gaming, movies & music. Any ideas?

honestly u can invest in the sennheiser pc360 (the best headset w/ mic in my opinion) or if you want surround sound, u can pick up their new pc363d. both are expensive :O, but are worth it

Off the top of my head Astro A40's deliver amazing sound and its mic is nothing short of awesome either. My brother has a pair of the A40's and whenever I use them they are just top notch. I prefer those over turtle beaches or logitech. I myself have the Astro A30's but the mic on that is pretty much crappy and I kinda wish I got the A40's, but the A30's are comfortable (probably could go 6 hours without ears hurting). Only problem is A40's are a little expensive, not if you get them second handed though. But yeah just threw my experience out there for ya.

astros are unfortunately past my budget lol Im currently using a set of monoprice headphones that cost 23 dollars lol

Maybe post a budget? Honestly though it sounds like you are setting your expectations too high for your wallet.

Also just an idea but you might want to close this thread and move over to computer audio subforum. This isn't so much a deal discussion anymore. . .

Thanks soopy! Which headset sounds aweosme with music/games that is around 80 tops?

For a (relatively cheap) gaming headset, I'd recommend the Beyerdynamic MMX2 -- they usually go for around $100, but can be found for as low as $45. They blow away the entire Corsair headset line as far as sound quality goes. Only objection I have (and it is a big one) is that the MMX2 isn't really designed for big heads; something I found out to my dismay when I bought mine. Started hurting my ears after about 1.5 hours of use.

If you're willing to toss out big cash for a gaming headset, the MMX2's bigger (and better) cousin, the Beyerdynamic MMX 300, awaits. Just be prepared to shell out $300+ for them ...

OP Sennheiser and Plantronics makes a bunch of headsets in your price range.
I recommend you go with them. Then sell them off and get yourself a better pair later.

If you go the studio headphone route you'll have much better sound quality, but it won't fit your budget.

I hear monoprice has very good budget offerings :)

But yeah, i'd start the search over at head-fi:

Also, when you get your headphones they will usually require some breaking-in, sometimes you're looking at 50+ hours of just playing sound through them till they set-in and you get their "broken-in" sound.

FWIW; I had Beyerdynamic headphones since the early eighties, always loved the sound. HOWEVER.....their service truly sucks. When the head 'cradle' cloth thingie broke, despite numerous calls, I never got a return call from them. Snail mailed a letter, again, nothing. EVER. That was in the nineties. So I made my own out of an old leather belt. So far, so good, still sounds great. Next, the ear foam covers started to fall apart. Again, no answer, no email, nada from them, despite numerous attempts to contact them. So I purchased some generic ones blind, and glued them on. Again, they worked. Last year, the plastic bridge that goes over the head broke when I dropped them. Again, no response from Beyerdynamic. So, as long as you can fix them yourself, well they sound great. But never expect any help from the company. Now I have Sennheiser pc350's and very happy with them. Got off of ebay for a little over $100, supposedly used, but came in the box in new condition. I will never again buy from Beyerdynamic.

I picked up a pair of Refurb'd Sennheiser HD 558's for about $80, to go with my clip-on mic.
