Razer has a new VOIP chat client

Depends heavily on how well the game overlay works. If it sucks then I don't see any reason to use this over TS3.

im downloading it on my fiance's and my own PC. making my friends download it as well, im down to support Razer

So how is this any different or better than XFire? XFire also takes video, screenshots and you can broadcast video and is also free.

What is VOIP? Isn't it illegal? (Google Oman and VOIP for more information)

With that said, the best VOIP I ever used, when it was not blocked, was ventrilo. Currently using a VOIP application that I dare not mention here since it will get hammered the next day...

Hope this one does well.

I have two very relevant questions.

1. Why do you need a full fledged chat program when using VOIP? I get links and whatnot, but who is typing instead of talking?

2. Will Razer buy me dinner first before I install their software and they fuck me?

So first they release a mouse that doesn't really work unless connected to their online server, and now a VOIP program that doesn't do anything more than the programs already out there...

Useless. We have more than enough choices already. Pretty sure their EULA is telling how they record what you play, for how long, with who, what did you said, etc. Thanks but no thanks.

I honestly don't understand the point of 3rd party chat programs? Maybe it's because I don't do a lot of MP, but steam or in-game voice chat functionality has always worked just fine for me, and it already has an overlay and everything. No Alt-Tab for me either!

You have never played a competitive FPS like CS with a team have you?

Vent or TS is a must for most teams/clans/large groups of non-12 yr olds, etc.

Wow seriously? It says that?

The audacity , why on earth would anyone use it then? Lack of utter privacy.

Actually I just read the whole EULA. It's fairly short and provides no useful information at all.

I don't trust them one bit, though I've been using Razer mice for a decade now.

I got a Email about that chat program. But really Another chat program? I abandon Xfire long time ago (fun times) and moved onto Teamspeak

Seems entirely pointless... Not because it's actually pointless but because it's another program that does the same things as a bunch of others that are already established (and knowing Razor, higher quality).

Skype
Mumble
Ventrilo
Teamspeak
Ingame VOIPs
C3
RaidCall

Is it really worth any company getting into this market anymore..

Yeah, it's honestly really dumb and everyone I play with has a different one . PS2 uses Mumble, brother uses voicechatter, old WoW guild uses Ventrillo... etc, etc. It's crazy and pointless to release another client.

Oh, don't forget everyone that wants to use Skype too :/

Looks promising. As long as in-chat windows are free of ads then I might give it a go.

My personal favorite. One time I forgot to dump the soup out though.

its hard to beat skype for quality

eventually they will make a game mode with a alt-tabless overlay or something.

No I have not, which is probably why built in or steam chat has always worked fine for me. 99.99% of my voice chat is with 1-3 other people (usually just 1) in a private channel. The only game I had trouble with voice chat was starcraft 2 but my friends and I just used steam chat instead and it works perfectly.

But honestly though, what is it about the 3rd party clients that make it better? That some have dedicated servers you can run? Does steam voice chat not able to handle large groups of people or something? Not trying to dis, just curious.

I heard this and stuff like the Razer Game Booster are just what the Razer Software Devs do when they aren't working on drivers and mouse software or whatever it is they do. The Razer Game Booster actually works well if you have a low-mid end system.

Hmmm, we have very differing experiences then.

I have not once thought Skype had better quality than any alternative on the market. That aside, to even use it I have to download freeware to make it push to talk, since it's not out of the box.

Some one in the background always has something else happening too, which invariably irritates that ever living crap out of me. Even on business calls.

As for what I like... I used to be a die hard Ventrilo fan, and I still pay for a service on a 250 person server to support a community I started; however, TS is the most comprehensive solution out there at this time as far as features and usability. Mumble is making headway but needs work on the GUI side of the house before it will really start making a hold.

Lots of pros for using a third party voice client.

Some of these pros are, but not limited to;

  • Not needing to be in game to talk to people.
  • Not having limitations of some games built in VOIP.
  • Some games don't even have VOIP.
  • More control than most games allow. (I usually block/mute all in game chats because people are annoying)
  • Lots more features then most in game VOIP (Such as push to talk vs just talking)
  • Higher quality audio

While almost all games do have built in chat features, sometimes you simply can't take the time away from the heated battles to type out an important message to your teammate; speaking is just a lot faster.
