Is there an official release date for Haswell?

correct, the bug on in the chipset, not the processor and it's no biggy as far as I'm concerned.

I don't like bugs, especially if it cant be fixed.

how long until new chipsets come out?

As for the bug, a second revision of the chipset is planned on release anyway after the first batches are out, so it's nothing to worry about.

so how do we know if we're going to be buying defective chipsets? that sounds like a bum deal

Wait until August for revised chipset. I am myself at least. No sense in putting up with bugs, you're paying full price. Why accept that?

You'll need to verify the PCH stepping to know if it's one with the USB 3.0 bug or not. Affected motherboards may use external USB 3.0 controllers to work around it.

The C1 stepping PCH has the bug, and C2 which started sampling about a week ago is the fixed version. Any motherboard manufactured before the middle of July will likely have a C1 stepping PCH, and most made after the end of July should have C2.
