So Im running two reference cards in crossfire with eyefinity and with only having the computer on, no programs running, im getting 55c with fans at default, which i believe is 20% IS this normal? Im a little worried, i took out one card and still reading about 55c, then switched card and same results...?

What's your ambient temp?

Pics/stats of case?

Otherwise, it seems they're running normal for whatever environment they're in, given they have the same temperature both in and out of CF. Try running with open case to compare? Increase fan profile to 100% to compare instead of relying on auto?

55% is about right depending on the environment and the case's airflow.
Currently mine is running at 48c while on the desktop, powering 3 ZR24ws. MB temp is 33c.

Depending on airflow and ambient temps (can't see case fan setup), I'd say 55C is normal for 20% load on reference 7970s. Their coolers were not as efficient as later models, hence why they are sought after for their WC (water cooling) compatibility more than their OA (on air) efficiencies.

My Sapphire 7970 Dual-X OC with Boost smokes my Sapphire 7970 Reference in both temps (idle/load) and noise levels. Because of this, it also overclocks a helluva lot better, but that's the luck of the draw on top of model type. My Sapphire Reference at 100% load = 70-80+F, depending on ambient. My Dual-X at 100% load = 50-70F+ depending on ambient.

Unless planning to WC or they overclock extremely well, I'd sell those while they're at a price premium and go with the many better OA performers out there.

Im planing on water cooling, just doing some research, never water cooled before and the options are overwhelming
