DOTA 2 $0.99

This game is free at launch.. You're buying items from Steam. Which also gives you the beta. It's there way of saying.. buy are game even tho its free. Its quite a scam actually lol. But Valve is perfect.

I have to agree. Paying for this is BS. I have a few invites left as well, just send a PM.

Yea me too. I have 18 sitting in my gift queue. I wouldn't bother paying anymore since myself and others will be more than happy to give them for free.

I have 0 keys to give out. All handed out dudes. Everybody who got one, enjoy.

Paying for DOTA keys? I once walked out of a restaurant, shouted "I need a DOTA key," and 5 people around me offered me some.

I would love a key if someone would be kind enough to throw me one.:)

But whats the difference between the $0.02 dota 2 gifts in steam market and the Buy Dota 2: Early Access $29.99 in steam store?

Isnt DOTA a Blizzard game?

I looked this up as well a month or so ago. The guy that made the mod got hired by Valve. I guess Blizzard claimed ownership since it was made using their tools and Valve claimed ownership since the creator of the term was an employee. But eventually the two settled and Valve gets to use the name, and Blizzard got some other rights.

Would be funny if Valve lets the kid go after launch

Is the game functionally different than LoL?

Not terribly. You choose between ~80 heroes and need to break down the enemy fortress with a team of five. The vast number is designed to force you to not only master your hero, but also all the others you fight against, in order to achieve skillful play. There is only one map. It does have one thing in its favor: you do not need to achieve insane keyboard skills with 200 clicks a minute like Starcraft.

Anyhow, I played a dozen games or so, and saw a few how-to vids on Youtube by some expert players. I eventually concluded that to achieve any level of skill, one would need to spend a huge amount of time on it, and I had better things to do. The only game I ever made that sort of commitment to is chess, the rest will have to be content with casual dating.

Yyyyeup. I've got 391 hours on record on steam (so maybe like 250 in game because of menus and queuing and other bullshiz), and i'm still a huge n00b.

The issue with Dota is that the franchise is 10 years old, and a large part of the community that plays today has been playing it since it was a fresh mod on the WC3 circuit. I'm the newest player in my group of friends with 2 months under my belt. Next newest player in my group has been playing 3 years, then 6 years, then 10 respectively.

I don't play a lot, but I like to put on tournament casts while I'm eating or doing other things. It allows me to see heroes in action so I get a sense of their skills and capabilities in the metagame.

Imo this is the worst game that I've ever played.

It is literaly impossible to learn the game and have a good game.

People are incredibly rude and disrespectful.

Both your teammates and enemy flame each other and people just abuse the report function which place you in low priority even though you've done nothing wrong to them.

People would go as far as to yell at you on Mic calling racist names and insults.

you got put into Low Priority Queue?

wow. i've never been there and i flame all day

How does this game compare to League of Legends (if at all)?

LoL and HoN are both based off the original DOTA.

DOTA 2 is the updated version of DOTA.

...to put it into perspective, they're the same genre.

Comparing these games is like comparing Halo, CoD and any other FPS war game...but only comparing the multiplayer environments because there is no story line or single player mode.

Probably want a DOTA 2 player to comment instead of me but comparing DOTA and LoL...dota allows you to deny cs and tower kills by last hitting your own minions/towers...basically instead of balancing farming and harass, you also throw in that 3rd element...LoL adds extra controls with summoner skills but dota had some consumable items that would give you similar abilities like teleport...etc

Basically, it's probably the same as switching from Halo to CoD...different maps and guns to get used to and people flaming you for not knowing where you're going.
