Hello all.

Was wondering if there was I could script a silent installation of Adobe Reader XI on a Windows machine.

If it's possible, I can import the script into my management interface and it will allow me to apply it to several computers simultaneously.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

Group policy with a msi.

pdq deploy

both of these are excellent ways to deploy them. If you have 7zip installed, you can right click on the .exe download from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/ and then "open archive" get the msi file and cab files and use those to deploy through gpo or setup a push from PDQ deploy.

I'd recommend PDQ deploy as you can also push pretty much anything, flash, google earth, reader, acrobat. Anything with an .exe or .msi can be pushed. I install AS400 client emulator software remotely at work, same with citrix screwdriver clients and even push .ocx activex files for certian websites that require it to be installed but my users don't have admin rights. PDQ is a beast.

I use LANDesk to push it out for myself. Its pretty easy to configure and setup to deploy by any major applications.

I used LANDesk for an over-11,000-CPU network and loved it. The asset-management portion most of all, though for software deployment it also worked well.

Then again, I haven't really worked with many alternatives.

I use the Adobe Customization Wizard to create a transform, then shoot it out over Software Installation with GP. There's also an entry in the MSI properties to make that disables the installation of the update service, but that's optional if you want to look it up.

Does PDQ Deploy require there to be a service running on the PC you deploy to?

The bad part about GPO deployment is that you don't know if the installs fail until you get a phone call. Does PDQ Deploy have some type of installation log that shows fails?
