Dark Souls is on Steam

first time!? now you have me curious..haha

I'll have a look around when I get home this evening - makes me happy that there is (possibly) some exploration involved ;)

While you "can" kill that first big guy, you don't have to, it's more of a "test your skills" type boss that you can bypass.

You can come back to this area later on in the game also.

Also regarding the dodge, your dodge is affect by your character stats and equipment you are using.
The heavier your gear the slower you are, etc.

PC will be developed for directly this time (though not the lead platform), no afterthought port.

I am happy to say you are wrong, as of today. You will be happy too. :)

Another Q & A
http://www.gamekult.com/actu/zoom-dark-souls-ii-A108297.html
Q: The demo presented during the event ran on PC. This means there is also a PC version developed in-house?

A: The version shown before the interview actually ran on PC. If the first Dark Souls was adapted from consoles to PC, this time, it's the opposite. The PC version serves as a base from which we adapt to consoles. Clearly, the game is being developed simultaneously on different machines directly internally.
And:
Q: You also mentioned a new graphics engine for Dark Souls II. Is it an engine taken from zero or an adaptation of the former?

A: Yes, we reprogrammed from A to Z. We have not included elements from the previous engine.

Funky machine translation(ANYONE KNOW FRENCH?), but you get what he's saying.
They are doing a blow out, lots of places are covering and doing interviews with them.

(Spanish)
Yet there will still distinguish between consoles and computers, as the co-director of the project, Yui Tanimura, we confirmed to our searching questions that will play at 60 frames per second on PC while the rate will remain at the 30 for consoles. Yes, FromSoftware wanted this time to be very clear about it and has promised that the frame rate will not fall under any circumstances, since it is something I have taken great care and effort.

(Found english, same stuff as above and more)
The game will NOT be easier, just "leaner"

OH
and one more thing.....

No GFWL. :)

No GFWL is good news!
I'm used to playing using only keyboard with no mods, so I wonder if I will continue to play this way in DS2.

PC-centric and no GFWL is great news. Gonna have to pick up the first game next time it's on sale.

When you show love to PC gamers, they will love you back. From Software has tapped into a very diehard fanbase, and all is right in the world.

Thanks to all for this, I 'escaped' (not sure how I didn't notice that door before) and got the shield/sword. He was 10 fold easier this time around, no deaths. One other question though: are there go-to builds for the warrior/knight?

I'm damn near giving up on my Soul Level 1 run with the Four Kings and Gwyn left. I shot myself in the leg by not getting an unupgraded Pyromancy Flame to use with Power Within without massive health drain.

Edit: I just beat the Four Kings! :p My heart is pounding

I caved in and decided to play through Dark Souls. But here is something that bugs me: when you hit an enemy there is often no physics-based behavior at all. But when the enemy hits you, you tumble, fall, or stagger. It's sort of annoying to land a big blow only to see a damage number and otherwise no effect at all on the enemy. Reminds me of Earthbound.

Try a bigger weapon. Maybe some armor with Poise.

It's kinda funny to see new people learning the game.

And now in a fit of rage I permanently deleted my SL1 save at Gwyn. I have better things to do with my time. I regret nothing. :p I don't even think I'll return to this game ever.

Here I come Bioshock Infinite.

Playing a hard game is one thing.

Playing a hard game and not leveling up.....That is just masochistic.

Out of curiosity what class did you pick?

Pyromancer has the best stats and can have a second attunement slot at level 1 I believe. Its the best starting class for it.

Power Within was changed to drain the same amount of HP regardless of Pyromancy Flame level. It's been that way since the beginning of the PC version.

There is only one class that starts at SL1, the Pyromancer.

pyromancer is the only SL1 option. I did a SL1 run and am currently at kalameet on the same character.
gwyn is easy with solaire and max pyromancy, solaire distracts, you toss fireballs at his back, I think 4 does it.

Being SL1 teaches different skills. you want to be light and dodge blows since you can't tank them.

I'm not sure if this has been posted here yet but, Namco Bandai says the digital PC version of Dark Souls sold 300,000! No comment on how many physical copies were sold.

That's really damn good. Especially considering it already sold over 2 million on consoles!

Finally finished this incredible game with no guides and in offline mode. I thought i found quite a bit on my own but now just glancing threw some of the wiki's it's absolutely staggering on how much stuff i missed out on this play through. I reached SL 94 by the end and still had a hell of a time with the final boss.... guess i just suck.

The only boss i thought was really cheap though was the damn capra demon... not so much the boss itself but the tiny ass room they gave you to fight it in plus 2 dogs on top of it was just lame.

I think its good to have that sort of variety in room sizes. It really flexes the mechanics and forces you to adapt new strategies. In a small room you can't stand back and shoot magic so easily. You can't hokey pokey with a sword. In a tight corridor you can't swing wide or roll out of the way. Its great!

Is GFWL down again? Can't connect to LIVE...Error code: 0x80004005 FUCK

1. Uninstall GFWL

2. Navigate to your System folder (32-bit systems: C:\WINDOWS\system32 64-bit systems: C:\WINDOWS\system64)
remove the following if they remain: - xlive folder - xlive.dll - xlive.dll.cat - xlive.pdb - xlivefnt.dll

Be very careful and don't remove anything else here

3. Edit: see jiminator's note below.

4. Try relaunching the game.

5. If that doesnt resolve the issue try and reinstall the game

Walkthrough taken from here.

Edit: Looks like GFWL really is down in some areas. Wasn't for me.

don't install the download gfwl client. the game can't "see" it. if you uninstall gfwl, then do a steam validation and let the game install (and update) gfwl.

with all the info leaking out about Dark Souls 2 this has to mean that the game is moving along faster then expected right?...sounds like a 2013 release is definitely possible now

I just beat the Four Kings boss on my NG+ play through. Holy shit he was a bitch. It was the only boss so far I've had any issues with on NG+.

I ended up using a High Poise Armor, Power Within, and my Great Scythe +15 (I'm a Dex Character) buffed with fire and just wailing on him - not even bothering to roll or block. :p

Off to try and kill Manus now....I bet he's going to be a pain as well.

I have reinstalled and uninstalled this game 5 times I get so damn frustrated with it. Its like the Witcher 1 all over again until one day it just all came togethe.

based on the gameplay video from Dark Souls 2 it looks like the brutal difficulty has been retained which is fantastic...it wouldn't be Dark Souls without it...I'm glad they didn't dumb it down

also great that dual wielding will be added!...will make decisions much tougher...should I use a shield?...torch?...or dual wield weapons?...should make for some interesting combos...along with the improved graphics and dedicated servers, this has me very excited

seems to still be working for my buddy and I. I have found that the pc gamers for this game invade to help or confuse you rather than destroying you completely like on console lol

Oh GFWL. It sounded so nice to be able to have one profile across different platforms, but MAN did they ever screw the pooch with the final software. They even made it worse by taking the store out of the app, but still requiring you to buy certain DLC with it.
When I was making a major Dark Souls run a couple months ago GFWL went down for about a week. Of course it was the week when I desperately needed help killing Kalameet, too. I'm guessing this is likely another situation like that. With that instance, my 360 still worked fine and I knew other players that weren't having problems.

connectivity mod is nice. IT would take forever to connect before.

I'm on new game ++++ right now and pretty much did multiplier the whole way through.

the Steam desktop shortcut icon doesn't seem to display properly...it shows up as a blank image for me

You can dual wield in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. Though, your offhand weapon's use is limited. It doesn't have clear benefits. But people do it! *Demon's Souls had a couple of weapons with passive benefits, so that was one reason.
