BioShock Infinite

Can't wait to see what those SP DLCs are going to do coming off THAT ending.

a) none of those choices are important to the story, that was the whole point of the post, and b) I don't entertain the idea that the entire internets is supposed to hide comments for those who haven't played the game for all time, this is just a common courtesy at release or for reviews and opinions. you avoid posts that are going to be talking about the story if you don't want it spoiled, not the other way around.

The game hasn't even been out for a week yet. This IS release. Game threads like this are so people can talk about the game while playing through it. And it's not for you to decided what's important to the story for other people. Just because you don't understand how it's relevant doesn't mean it's not.

Maybe i haven't given it enough time but it just doesn't have that Bioshock feel to it. I mean most of the core elements are still there but it just doesn't seem the same...i can't pinpoint it. Oh well at least i got it for free :D

Because it's a pale imitation of what BioShock is supposed to be.

Oh, yay, floating cities and steampunk.

So I just beat the game and I absolutely loved every minute of it. I haven't had a game experience like this since the original Halo came out.

I have that feeling that you get once you finish a REALLY great book. Satisfied but at the same time disappointed because you know you probably aren't going to read something that amazing for a while.

The game was that good. Seriously wouldn't be surprised if this GOTY and I beat Tomb Raider last week.

The story in this game had me so drawn in I just had to know what happened next. Very rarely do I play a game more than an hour at a time unless its really good. This game had me playing hours at a time and beat it in just a few sit downs.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!

Alright so the game was a little confusing for me at the end. With all the different dimensions/worlds affected by your choices and I guess every choice possible made it hard (for me at least) to follow. After reading someone's breakdown of the ending it made a lot more sense. Kind of like watching Inception for the first time. haha I gotta admit I never saw the twist this ending had coming. I read before I beat the game that the ending was absolutely ridiculous.

Overall I HOPE they make a Infinite 2 and that Irrational Games make it. The story that this game had is like something I've never experienced before.

The only complaint I have is pretty much all my fault. I Only really used 2 of the Vigors the entire game. The possession and devils kiss. Towards the almost end of the game I started playing around and the game became even more fun. Especially the return to sender vigor which lets you catch bullets and fling them back at people.

I usually focused on the Bucking Bronco, Electricity, and Possession

I liked using the Octopus one to force push NPCs into the sky though

Maybe its because the other ones were all dark (and had lots of water) and this ones more bright? :D

Well either way, who cares. They both have different kind of gameplay structures, BioShock is slightly less linear and more melee-oriented combat, while Infinite is much more narrative focused with ranged combat. Doesn't mean one is inherently better than the other.

If you wanted more BioShock 1, that's why BioShock 2 exists. Irrational Games wanted to do something different, and I'm sure if they had their way they wouldn't have released it under the BioShock name.

I mostly used Shock Jockey and Murder of Crows, but the fire-bombing one was very useful against "heavies". In the end I had (I believe) all the upgrades, but some of the Vigors are introduced quite late. I only tried the shield and Undertow ones for a minute total. Possession ultimately is better used for getting more money out of the machines to upgrade other things :-p

Shock Jockey sort of became obsolete at the end. Even upgraded it was just plain better (imo) to use MoC. YMMV.

I assume the DLC will be 'combat arena' style things, so there'll be time to experiment more there.

If you find the Storm gear, Shock Jockey becomes the best Vigor, no contest.

Problem is that gear is randomized, so sometimes you won't get it until the end of the game.

Ok so this "fend off waves of bullshit" part where I've been stuck at near the end-ish is really killing all the fond feelings I had for this game. Twice now I have "finished" it and then nothing happens. Wander around and zilch. I figured it might be that StreamingTextures thing which I did change, so i changed it back and it is still doing it to me.

Rather disappointing that the whole game is awesome up until this point and this part is making me want to uninstall and never finish it.

Did you go to the front or the bow of the ship?

Yes.

I just deleted the XEngine.ini file and that seems to have fixed it... BUT WAIT! There's more! Sigh, after I went to the bow and all the stuff after that... the game crashes on me. The FIRST time it has crashed on me and it has to happen then. I'm so furious right now. I'm going to have to re-do that whole fight all over again I just know it. For the 20th time.

I pretty much used a sniper rifle and hand cannon for most of the game. Before the hand cannon, I used the carbine, which is also quite good. The AI is horrible in many areas so long ranged/accurate weapons make things much easier.

You have good taste, I went hand canon over the carbine as soon as I got it, and used the sniper rifle for the far away targets.

I think I'm close to the end...finished the Warden's office part...getting a 'Fringe' vibe...the TV show Fringe...

The carbine I love, love WWII era guns and it just fits.

Would be sweet if they had the Garand in there.

I pretty much use the machine gun, carbine, hand cannon and sniper rifle (typically just the MG and the hand cannon at this point).

Oh btw, not a mega spoiler but regardless, I thought this was weird:

I just got past the part where you "discover" that the rips are to a parallel universe and you go through one (around the Plaza of Zeal or thereabouts). I thought it was weird how the parallel world wasn't really all that different other than in a few tiny ways. Also, all your weapons and shit are still laying around that were in the "other" world....WTF?! Kinda broke immersion there for me.

Ok, well i beat the game on hard then on 1999. which actually felt easier than hard. the story line was excellent, the combat was good but rather uninspired, and the ai was rather poor.

I guess, from reading some previous posts, that i am not the only one that pretty much exclusively used the hand cannon, the sniper, and bucking bronco.

Spoiler Alert

Ok the one thing that didn't make any sense to me at the end was, since the whole premise of the story was built off the multiverse theory, then there being infinite worlds would make it impossible to find an origin world, where it all started, since one wouldn't exist.

Is my logic faulty? or did the ending just make no sense?

6 Hours in and I like using the machine gun and the sniper riffle. so far I am loving it, cant wait to play more.

SO MAD i started in 1999 mode.... I'm in that house now with the two people talking about negros and I can't get past it at all. that fire guys murders me and the auto guns just rape me to all hell.

Can they be destroyed?

I'm going to start over on medium because I'm already not having fun.

^^ha wow just noticed, you can't change settings once you start this mode... yea I would start over if it's your first time. you don't want to ruin it like this if you really can't hack it, it's a brutal grind if you build wrong in any way.

so how long are we supposed to wait, until you're ready to discuss this game? 2 weeks? a month? you want to give us a copy of your schedule, so the internets knows when it's ok to talk about bioshock around maximus? you see the problem with this immature, self centered logic that seems so popular among 'gamers' who like to be told what to think, but not until they're ready to know? people already make an effort to be discreet about what they say, and yet there are still people like you, basically trolling for comments over your entire playthrough, instead of just playing the damn game, and thinking for yourself.

why don't you tell us what you think make these decisions relevant to the story. second person now to call me out on this, who yet refuses to explain your pov. or are you just here to play forum cop, and not actually talk about the game? I think you just don't understand the discussion, but still cannot resist chiming in for some reason. since the significance of these choices are actually spoiler worthy, not even a question, even if the decisions are meaningless. notice NOBODY HERE HAS EXPLAINED WHAT THEY MEAN outside of spoilers, because we care so much that maximus has an absolutely untainted experience, and we are all here for you.

Your logic is faulty. Think it over.

I have, and I don't see a fault in it.

Large Spoiler
There is no original world in the multiverse. there is no possible way for them to go back and kill the Booker that started it all since there would be an infinite amount of Bookers making the same decisions at the same time in infinite worlds.

Edit:

Just hide in the bathroom the fire guy cant go in there (or he couldn't in my game) he gets stuck in the door and you can shoot him until he attacks then just run back into the corner out of his los.

Hard difficulty isn't bad other than a couple areas

No - the point where the worlds "split" was when Booker was baptized. One outcome was that he was baptized and became a religious fanatic and later be responsible for the creation of Colombia. (ie. become Comstock)

The other outcome was that he rejected baptism and became the Booker that we played during the entire game.

The solution was to stop the decision from happening in the first place - so booker allowed the Elizabeth(s) to drown him

It wouldn't really fit in. That rifle wasn't produced until the late 30s.

err, you do know that the Carbine in game is modeled after the M1 Carbine? Which came after the Garand and was also a popular gun in WWII, neither of which were around during 1912.

The guns don't have to be realistic, they could have had an m1 garand inspired rifle with it's famous "cling" ejection of the clips and still have a bioshock twist on it's design somewhat.

I just thought it'd be nice to have, along with the carbine already in game.

I've probably been playing it for about 18 hours at this point (more as a matter of reloading from save points rather than taking a death 95% of the time
handyman fights & the Siren have been the only exceptions

I finally made it to
the asylum, and they got one hell of a jump scare in on me. Just saw New York in flames...
hope to finish it tomorrow. Definitely having fun.

So played Bioshock Infinite for 5 hours and found the plot bland and dis interesting. I read all reviews with most giving a 10/10 for the game. I am pretty sure that its just me here who thinks the game is not interesting, could it be because I am asian and dont know much about American folklore? obviously the game is of American descent and based on its history...

Well, it does put itself pretty heavily into the bad parts of American history (bigotry, racism, religious fanaticism, etc. while also trying basing itself upon a time of American "exceptionalism")...so a lack of that knowledge may be a bit of a hindrance.

I don't think you have to be American or know anything of American history to understand/enjoy the plot - the racism, religious fanaticism, etc is found in so many other cultures and is a familiar theme. It's funny to me that the reaction has been so polarizing - the game is unbelievable in my opinion. Really really loved it.
