Anyone else using one of these? I just picked one up from apple refurb and I was curious to hear other peoples thoughts and issues with theirs. The screen is gorgeous and the laptop is amazingly light and thin. The only odd thing that I can think of is that the menu bar keeps disappearing on me. Like when I close out a program it will auto hide like the dock does, except I can't seem to find a setting for that anywhere.

So I'd love to hear any input on these new laptops from feller [H]'ers.

This isn't specific to the rMBP, I've seen this a few times in the last couple months. I thinks it's just a glitch in OSX.

If they came with a beefier GPU, I'd be all over one. They're beautiful for sure and love Apple build quality but with that screen res, I just can't spend that kind of cash for something that's using an integrated graphics chip.

It's going to show it's age much faster than most Ultrabooks/Notebooks in it's class.

I really hope they do a refresh or offer another version with a dedicated GPU

I have a similar problem with my standard MacBook Pro, except it doesn't happen when you close a program, but will just be missing the top menu bar at startup. Every now and then, when I turn the thing on, the menu bar will be completely missing, but you can see the icons on the right hand side (wifi, volume, etc). I've let it sit for quite some time and the menu bar does not appear. However, the minute I do something, that would cause text/entries on the bar to change (like open a program, open a finder window, etc.) it suddenly appears.

I know no program I've installed causes it, because the first time it happened was within a couple days of me getting the thing, and I hadn't installed any programs yet. Then, maybe a year and a half later, I did a complete format and re-install and the problem still occurs from time to time... It's not a huge deal, since we're talking once every few months.

The 15" has a GT 650M. What's interesting with this laptop too is if you want you can run games at say 1920x1200 since the PPI is so high, if you aren't happy with the fps at 2880x1800.

Also the only issues I had were fixed with the 10.8.3 update.

I absolutely love my 15" rMBP! I ordered it configured with 16Gb of RAM, an upgraded 2.6Ghz i7 processor, but with the standard 256Gb SSD. I got it last September and the "honeymoon phase" hasn't worn off yet, an I don't think it ever will. This is also my first Mac, and switching from Windows hasn't been an issue... at all. As a matter of fact, my wife has just had a chance to play around with it (learning how to perform some normal functions), and we will be selling her Dell craptop pretty soon. I just have to ask a few Q's about importing her e-mail setup into my Thunderbird installation, and setting up her iPhone on my iTunes.

Also, I haven't experienced any issues with hardware (screen burn in), or with OS X. I have kept up with OS updates and am running 10.8.3.

Hi,

I just bought my 13" Retina Macbook Pro while I was in the Philippines. This is my first venture into the Apple world and yes....I was once a hater(mostly because of the price). Finally biting the bullet I have to say, I'm very pleased with it and as someone mentioned above, I'm also on my honeymoon phase. Everything with OSX Mt. Lion(correct me if I'm wrong still learning) is amazing and seemingless. I bought it with the sole purpose of doing Photos and Video editing using my DSLR.

The other day I did purchase a bunch a goodies for the Macbook Pro via Amazon. Case covers, Keyboard covers, USB-Thurderbold- HDMI-Power cord dust plugs, Trackpad cover and screen protector. Can't wait to get those but I did have one last thing that I purchased, Windows 8 Pro.

So this is the real reason I come to Hardforums today. I wanted to ask about BootCamp 5, Windows 8 Pro and creating a partition to use Windows for all my Engine Tuning software. I did my research using both Apple's site and Window 8 site and everything seemed like everything would work right. Well, after ordering I wanted to familarize myself even more with window 8(since I haven't used it much) and found lots of forums and articles about how Win 8 was actually not easy to install and how a few functions are lost when going on the Windows side of the house. What sold me on the Mac idea(after so long) was the fact that I could use both Operating Systems on one computer. Was what I read true or false? Have any of you installed Win 8 pro on your Mac with or without issues?

Please feel free to discuss as I have Win 8 Pro Builders DVD on the way. I'd like to get a final answer so I know to return it or not. Thanks

PS: I was going to create a thread discussing this but I thought I'd stick to good forum manners and not pollute it with yet another thread if I can get my answers for an exsisting thread.

Sounds fantastic! Was this update released recently? All the Threads and articles I was reading were fairly recent(Late Feb and Early march). Like mentioned above I bought my Macbook Pro a few days ago and currently I'm out to sea(so no internet for updates at this point in time). Where would I be able to verify what updates I have? This lighten's the mood for me a bit cause I was worried I wouldn't be able to use my Tuning software(which puts the beans on the table). Thanks a lot guys for your help.

Is VLC still a good player to use for watching/listening to movies? Already ran into a problem with not being able to play certain file formats using Quicktime.

Apple at the top left -> "About this Mac". If it has 10.8.3 than you have the latest, else Windows 8 does work but not perfectly.

Yes, so far VLC has played everything I've needed.

I'll be getting the 15" Retina in April. I planned to wait until the Haswell update for the 13", but am starting a new contract on April 15. The client will buy the laptop for me, so a shiny new 15" 16GB Retina will be ordered next week. :D

I picked up the 15" since it has the dedicated GPU. I looked at the 13" one since it was on sale at places like macmall but I just can't convince myself to work on a 13" screen while im in classes and such.

I have used it for a couple days now and everything seems good. I installed steam and loaded up Portal 2 to see how it would handle it and I have to say it doesn't look very good at the full res. I haven't tried running it at 1440x900 yet but the 650m seems capable enough for most of my mac compatible games.

I will probably pick up a copy of windows 8 through my school and try loading that onto this in the next couple weeks since it is only $15 for me. I'd like to get that going so that I can use solidworks and do my C programming homework with the same compiler we use in class.

I picked up the 15" 2.7GHz 16GB RAM model and I couldn't be happier to own a mac. I was a mac hater for years but this has totally changed my opinion. I've played WoW and Eve on the mac and the frame rate was smooth enough to not notice, I haven't ran anything that super GPU intensive but I'm sure if it was choppy the resolution could be lowered. I love everything about the Retina and I'm glad I waited this long for this quality of a product.

You wouldn't happen to be at USF would you?

Good manners dictate that you start your own thread unless the OP is interested in this.

I bought mine the moment it showed up on my local apple retail store in June 2012. It has been great so far as a desktop replacement. I've played GW2, SC2, and LOL on it with no problems. My only issue is my windows 7 bootcamp internet disconnects ~30 minutes after the first startup. I had to close-open the lid every time i load up bootcamp for it to not DC after ~30 minutes.

Please do me a favor and "Shut the fuck up". The title reads "Retina Macbook Pro". That is what I have...along with what the OP has. I asked a simple question for which he and others were kind enough to answer quickly and that was it..end of story. I rather be able to knock 2 birds with one stone(especially with a thread titled so openly) than litter the forums with repeated questions. If you got something stuck in your ass, then pull it out and move on. Dafuq I get fucking lip from a nerd. Some peoples kids these days.

No sir.

I am getting like 80 Mbps from the wifi on this thing which is faster then my 09 macbook pro could ever handle which is very nice to see. I am looking to hook this thing up to my 27" 2560x1440 display has anyone had any luck with using one of those? It only has a DL DVI hookup so I am having trouble finding a single cable to use.

I haven't tired, but maybe something like this?

You'll need an "active" adapter to use DL DVI:
