Google is usually right at the top of their game when celebrating special days with their Google Doodles, but not so this Easter. Google’s decision to honor Cesar Chavez over the celebration of Easter, has been met with controversy, generating negative comments from all corners of the Internet. Yay or Nay on the Chavez doodle?
 
Chavez is a big Union socialist community organizer. Google has an agenda for the one world government called the New World Order. Scary stuff. Google should stay out of politics but they did help over throw Egypt and Libya. Their motto is do no evil but just like Walmart. They are pretty darn evil. And many companies have a political agenda.:eek:
 
Well since Easter is built around the premise of a fairy tale, I for one welcome Google actually celebrating something that really happened rather than some religious nonsense.
 
I am agnostic but this was a bad move google, thinking of switching to Bing.
 
It's Easter, goddamnit! We are supposed to be celebrating undead Jesus, not some dead activist.

The last Easter doodle was in 2000, yet somehow it wasn't a big deal until this year.

Chavez is a real life American hero vs a fictional bible story that barely anyone can even agree on in specifics. Tough choice. :rolleyes::eek::p

well, google should celebrate the rising of one religions dude who rose from the dead because of some white rabbits that laid colorful eggs?
 
Actually I looked around to try and see if there was an Easter egg hidden on the page somewhere. Something that could have had them honor that dude and give us some Easter goodness also. But no such luck that I could find. Missed opportunity Google, missed opportunity.
 
Didn't notice it until you said something. Honestly who cares? I went to church and celebrated Easter with my family today, I don't go to the Google home page to get my holiday jollies on.
 
Easter eggs, and the rabbits, are a hold over from the pagan holiday Ishtar. Christianity hijacked the date of ishtar for the easter celebration. Ishtar was the celebration of fertility (eggs) and sex/procreation (rabbits). Christians kept the symbols and the date but changed the fundamental reason for the holiday.

As for the google doodle. I could not give less of a shit.
 
Personally, I don't care if Google wants to celebrate Chavez' birthday, but they were much better off doing it last or next year instead of this year when it falls on a holiday that many people celebrate.

Someone over at google had to know it was going to cause a ton of controversy and bad press.

Of course, Caesar Chavez day is apparently the 31st, but did they have to pick him over Easter? Man, crazy.
 
You know the only thing that makes this event worth noting? That some moronic christians confused Cesar Chavez with Hugo Chavez and got all up on their high horses all over Twitter about it. God people are stupid.

I just thought it was funny because it was fun to see the same people who say "they're a corporation they can do whatever they want" otherwise, would have a complete and utter meltdown about how evil they are not to have some huge flowery celebration for their Christian holiday, lol.

They should have just had a cartoon of a zombie Jesus ambling out of his tomb.. That would have at least recognized Easter, and pissed people off all at the same time!

I'm sure it's not all "moronic Christians" that are confusing the two. But yeah, as a Christian myself, it is a little disappointing. No, I'm not going to stop using Chrome, and no I'm not going to block Google. I mean, if all accounts on Cesar Chavez are true, then his faith is commendable. If it were me, I would obviously choose Easter and the Resurrection. Every believing Christian would. But still, this shouldn't really surprise anyone that Google did what they did. If you're not a Christian, then it would make sense to celebrate Cesar Chavez day in light of the Resurrection. On another note, I wonder if any believing Christians who work at Google actually left because of this? Just curious. :)

I think it is funny that no one mentioned the insensitivity of today being the season finale of "The Walking Dead". Coincidence or evil plot?????????

Chances are high that it's this.
Far too many people rely on FB image macros or rando 'facts' that are posted on Twitter, without sources, that they jump to outrage with little to no information. It is hard to digest and really understand information with the proper discipline when people are just checking FB/Twitter from their phones during a shit break.

Not that it's an excuse, but this is what modern political discourse has become.

I'm a bit disappointed in google as well for this, its one thing to ignore Easter but putting another doodle instead struck me as a slap in the face to Christians. It was like the went out of their way to find something else to put up instead....it's not even some sort of milestone like his 100th birthday or even 90th, it's Chavez's 86th birthday.

As for people commenting on how the Easter tradition was stolen from pagans, I wouldn't exactly phrase it that way. First off, a pagan isn't a religion it just means "country dweller" and they had lots of traditions, rituals, worshiped nature, etc...not unlike native americans. Anyway when Christianity spread across Europe newly converted "pagans" held on to some of their traditions and they spread and eventually melted together with Christian celebrations and the easter egg became the symbol of the empty tomb of Jesus.
 
It was still a sorry move by Google. Celebrate the day as a religious day or the just the straight holiday it is, it eclipses this sole man's birthday. Not that I believe in all the religious stuff, but I'm fairly sick of the minority groups getting a say in what happens to the majority groups in this country. Change isn't made on the back of slander, but on truths and faith. Everyone has faith, even agnostics.
 
Figures that Google would do something this goofy to grab attention. No doubt Chavez not only didn't celebrate Easter but wouldn't have been able to describe the holiday with any accuracy had he been asked. It's like celebrating Martin Luther King's birthday on George Washington's birthday--it's ludicrous...;) Once again Google drowns us in ignorance--it's really too darn bad as the Internet is full of such nonsense and it certainly doesn't need more willful ignorance piled on for good measure.

People who don't have any religious faith really need to stand back and treat people with such faith with all of the courtesy they expect in return. We all don't have to agree on everything except that we should treat other people the same way we'd like to be treated. Anyone who disagrees with that premise has some severe antisocial tendencies he needs to work out, big time...;)

well he's dead but yeah...I mean it's not like it's a state holiday here in California where Google is HQ'd or anything :\
