Okay, so my wife's friend just bought a new computer, and she gave me her old one. It's a Toshiba Satellite 17 incher with a Core 2 Duo processor. Not bad at all for free. Anyways, she was having overheating issues with the thing, so as soon as it was in my possession I disassembled it and cleaned it out, and put arctic silver 5 compound on it. Right now, temps are at 44 degrees celcius. At max processor load, the temps go as high as 70 degrees, which is about 15 under the critical point (according to the system monitor). Is this a bad temperature? I believe my other Dell gets about this hot as well.

Reason I ask is that I'm thinking of selling it, for not too much money. Probably $125 shipped or something like that. What do you all think? Worst comes to worst, I can just toss the thing.

Why toss it? I have a Core 2 Duo system (not a laptop) that is still a quite competitive machine.

But those temps are not bad for a laptop. I would not be concerned about selling it, more so since you cleaned it up.

Dude, thank you! Apparently it got so hot that it would shut itself down. My wife's friend had to put in the fridge (!) so that it would stay on long enough for her to get some files off of there. Gonna sell it then. :) EDIT: Will probably up the price a bit too.
