Monoprice 30" IPS Pro Monitor

Yes I saw that, but it is subjective depending on the person. So multiple opinions would be beneficial for future reference in this thread.

Gotcha. I'm glad it's not glossy but based on all the complaints about Dell's AG coating I sure hope Martha is right that it's somewhere between that and glossy.

I do as well, having owned and experienced a Dell monitor with their grainy AG coating I can say it totally ruins the viewing experience. Hopefully this is just a matte finish without the shiny sparkle effect.

My monitor should arrive on Monday, I will post some photos and initial impressions when it comes in.

My DVI-only version arrives tomorrow (damn UPS) so I'll report back on the AG coating more. I had a ZR30w with the heavy antiglare coating and currently own an Asus PB278Q with the semi-gloss coating that Samsung uses on all their PLS screens. I'll keep you informed as to what level the AG coating is when mine arrives (also have a glass-screen MacBook Pro and Surface Pro for work so I know my screen coatings pretty well).

Awesome! That is pretty much the range of what is out there for anti glare techniques. The Samsung semi-gloss seems to be the least intrusive of what I have personally seen.

I'm predicting the 30" DVI input is a rebranded Crossover 30Q5 Pro. It looks a lot like the 3020MDP aesthetically other than the design of the vent grooves on the back.

FYI, just got the 30" with multiple inputs. Link to SD post shows the screen in comparison to a Dell 2007FP. It's slightly more glossy than that Dell, but definitely still what I would call a matte screen.

Also, it only has 1 HDMI port, not 2 as indicated in the Monoprice photos.

Nice monitor, a slight blue banding in one area on a full white screen, but not bad. No dead pixels I can see.

Oh, and it will slightly overclock, it seems to run fine at 2560x1600 32bit @72hz, Nvidia custom resolutions didn't work at any higher refresh I tried

Hmm, does it have any of the shimmering effect / grain when looking at text on white backgrounds?

How is the stand on these 30" ? They look a lot better than many of the Korean Ebay ones and certainly the crap one on the 27" that if removed will void the warranty...

Just a slight amount of grain, and you have to get pretty close and off angle to see it. From typical viewing distance I don't notice anything

The stand is ok, the monitor will wobble slightly if you move it around by hand, but is steady when left alone. My stand is damaged but usable, it's bent to about 10 o'clock, but could be corrected by the rotation adjustment. Tilting forward and back is tough, it takes both hands on the heavy monitor to move it around at all.

Nothing special for a stand, but it's not the worst I've seen.

Does it output sound in hdmi through the built-in speakers? The website mentions through a separate 3.5mm input only. Also, is there a 3.5mm headphone out jack?

And does it have "keep aspect ratio" settings for when viewing non-16:10 resolutions?

The brightness setting does nothing on this monitor? My assumption is, its not supposed to have a brightness setting but was left in by default since this is a re brand:confused:

Seems like others on Monoprice are having the same issue. Anyone here noticing this?

Got mine in today (multi-input version). Out of the box, the colors are over-saturated, at least mine is. The AG coating is pretty noticeable, on par with U3011.

So there's no way to adjust the color via the menu or does it have to be done in software?

I'm getting antsy about this. Even for a $750 30" LCD I expect something better than barebones... If it was under $500 maybe I'd think differently.

Any updates? It'd be fantastic if you could post a vid as well.

It (finally) arrived today and I'm uploading a YouTube video for y'all right now. Some problems right out of the box, but I'll let the video do the talking. Be up shortly.

Its too bad to hear these aren't using the LED-backlet U3014 panel, but it still seems like a fairly solid offering compared to paying a lot for the U3011 or buying one of the Korean 30".

I wonder if Monoprice is planning to offer a version of this with the U3014 panel - IPS, high end LED backlit, wide gamut, 10 bit 1.07 billion colors, glossy (or even "lightly AG"). I've been in the market for a new display, and especially since the days of getting a high end HDTV panel in the 30-50" size has seemingly gone to hell (ie. They don't put the high end backlighting or panels on 42" TVs!), I'm looking for a selection of 27 or 30" IPS monitors as of late...

Alright, this YouTube video is taking awhile to upload (crapped out on me once, forcing me to start over). It should be up in an hour or so. I go into great detail as to my impressions of the monitor, and it's a nice piece of kit for all intents in purposes. No dead pixels, antiglare is medium, no input lag I could feel compared to my other monitors.

However, it has some obvious and unacceptable screen imperfections. They aren't glaring under all screen conditions, but are pretty obvious if you ever have a uniform color or image displaying.

I used the Lagom full-page pixel walk test just to demonstrate the screen uniformity issues I'm seeing here:

Again, YouTube video review should be up at some point tonight.

Didn't you guys think you were going to get some imperfections? These aren't A grade panels. Granted that snake pattern is pretty horrible compared to the one dead pixel I have on my otherwise perfect Auria.

Nope, I'll admit I'm probably abnormally picky about monitors, but I'm not looking for absolute perfection. My current Asus 27" PLS panel I love but it has some color uniformity issues, but I still kept it. However, I think you'd agree that $700 is too much to pay for what I got. If there was some slight color shift it'd be one thing, but this is pretty bad.

Just going to return it and shell out the dough for the Dell U3014. If NEC had a LED-backlit 30" right now I'd be all over it. Granted, I can afford to try a higher-end panel, but if it was up to me, I wouldn't recommend this 30" to anyone with only $700 to spend. Luckily Monoprice's excellent customer service negates a lot of the risk of getting a panel as bad as I did, but hopefully they get a handle on their QC with these 30 inchers.

Yep, more noticeable on the right but there is a less prominent distortion on the left as well. We'll just have to stick to black backgrounds :D

Ha! That's the spirit! ;)

Think I'm going to RMA this sucker. The black backgrounds look fine to me as well. Every other color is the problem. I opened up Gmail and couldn't stop staring at that weird pattern on the right.

I haven't decided what I'll do yet. I could get an open-box U3011 from a local Micro Center for under $1000 if I decide to send it back. I don't think I can stomach dropping $1500 on a U3014.

I see similar imperfections in my screen as well.

I just got my Replacement monitor this afternoon and it has none of those problems. Call Monoprice and have them exchange it.

My first one had the blue banding on left and right sides plus the red blotches. This new one looks prefect :)

Finally uploaded.

Here's my review on YouTube. Sorry if the quality isn't great. I need to get a better camera:

Thanks for the review - it was very informative! Near the end you mention that you're going to return it and wait for the "new" Dell 30" monitor to come out - can you elaborate? Is there a specific model number? Just curious as I'd like to do more research into potential alternatives for the Monoprice monitor, even if it means spending a bit more to ensure a quality display out of the box (I live in Canada and I'm afraid that if I get a bad one, it's going to cost extra to ship it back and try my luck again with a replacement).

Ah nevermind - just re-read the thread and you already mentioned it - Dell U3014. Thanks!

No problem, guys, thanks for the kind words.

I went ahead and ordered the Dell U3014. I was planning on just waiting for that monitor to come out (I much prefer LED backlit panels personally) but for $700 I figured I could get a great product for half the price as the big brands. I definitely would have kept the Monoprice if it didn't have the screen uniformity issues. Everything else about this monitor is fantastic and a real bargain for the money. Not a single dead pixel!

The great part about Monoprice is they immediately recognized the defects from the pics I sent them and sent me a UPS label today for the return. They offered to cross-ship a replacement but I declined since the Dell U3014 came available for order in the meantime. Since Monoprice customer service is so good, I would not hesitate recommending this monitor to others to try. I can only imagine how screwed I would be had I ordered a monitor from Korea via eBay and gotten a product like this.
