Best Wireless Router with QOS

My dad is building out a office with some other attorneys and they signed up for hosted phones.

I just ran about 16 drops last night for them, but need a router for the job. I am putting a gigabit switch in and don't care about POE since they have outlets where the phones are.

But I do need a good wireless router that has QOS. I am not looking to go with a dedicated firewall then wireless unit, just want a good consumer grade unit that has QOS.

I do not care if it is aftermarket firmware or stock. Just need something not super expensive.

Normally I would grab an Asus unit, but a quick search said N56U didn't work well with QOS
 
I liked the automatic programmed QOS on the higher end Netgear units.

I've also heard good things about the ASUS RT-N66U
 
Mikrotik has very powerful qos abilities. I've never used their wireless models so I can't comment on how well the wireless part works, but I have quite a few regular models out there. I'm a big fan of Mikrotik. Will you be supporting this or do you want something that you never have to touch again? If someone else does any work on the Mikeotik they could get list quickly and have difficulty if they have never used RouterOS.

Hate Netgear.

I am use to Tomato firmware as well. If the Asus N66U does the QOS that is fine.

I'm of no help then :p . I haven't touched a "consumer" router in a couple years. I recommend Asus to people though.

Same here. Ironically, I had a hard time setting up QoS on my DD-WRT WNDR3700. It seemed so... backwards. Give me my access lists, class maps, and policy maps! I can set up QoS in a Cisco in my sleep!

I really can't wait to move into my new house so I can reconfigure my network and take the Cisco out of my lap and set it up as my edge. I'm seriously excited about it. :D

I too have a love hate relationship with Dlink and Netgear.

I've had good units and bad ones from both.

But since you said QOS. Netgear does have a better pre-programmed QOS.

Given your vices I'd go with the RT-N66U.

Haven't tried DD-WRT in years but OpenWRT usign LuCI (if you prefer an UI) is pretty much straight forward.

Currently using a Engenius ESR1200 and it's worked very well, it tripled my up/down speeds from my ancient WRT54G.
I use a WET610 bridge and they play nice, no issues or packet drops.
 
The Zyxel USG line has easy to configure QoS as well. It is more SMB, but still very economically priced.
 
Asus RT-66AC or whatever it is called now has DDWRT support. Has some really good hardware on the inside and WRT has lots of enterprise like featuring.

I'd sooner use MerlinWRT over DD on the AC66U. DDWRT hasn't had an update in....4+ years IIRC.

Great router otherwise with QoS.
