ASUS Maximus V Formula / ThunderFX Review - Not one to rest on their laurels, ASUS adds another Z77 Express chipset based board to its Republic of Gamers lineup. This time in Formula trim. The Maximus V Formula / ThunderFX gives us most of what the Extreme version gave us and a couple of things it didn’t. What’s so special about the Maximus V Formula ThunderFX? Let's find out.

Well, it was either this or the Extreme, but I think I can swing a few extra buck to get it. Great review, but do i have to plug in the mSata into another card and then plug that onto the board?

The article mentions and the ASUS website confirms that ThunderFX will work with other devices and is not tied to this mobo. But nowhere can I find that it's for sale with anything other than this mobo.

When, ASUS, when?

What does the thunderFX actually do? I went on their site and read the description and I'm still a little confused as to what value it adds.

Great review for a great board , I was really surprised how in depth it went to show all the positive wins of this board. One of the best Asus board Ive used to date :D

how hard is it to replace the fittings? I've read elsewhere the they're 3/8 and if I wanted to get this board I'd want to replace them with 1/2in. ones to match what I already have.

I wouldn't use the block they have its more for looks than anything . . And will just dump heat into your loop

The top PCIe slot is handy as long as your HSF doesn't obstruct it. I have no other complaints about my (non-ThunderFX) one though.

Looks like a great board.

I have three Formula branded boards......all Rampage types, and I have never been dis-satisfied with them.:D

Thnx for the article, a good read and headsup on a board that needs research given price the point.
My first Asus board was an A7M-266, it had onboard C-media sound, a rarity in those days of competitive AMD chips and chipsets. Had been exclusively Gigabyte back then in P2/P3 days and I remember thinking how great Asus' presentation was on A7M-266. Since then they have gone from strength to strength, 1 big C2D dud(Striker Extreme) notwithstanding..These days, with ROG and the 'tuff' line it's hard to see a weakness in their lineup if you like Asus..can't believe it still gets me interested after all this time...Interesting articles and Kyle's hooma must be why..:)

For the Maximum V Formula, which USB slot can I plug a G19 keyboard in so that it gets recognized as a keyboard during boot? After BIOS flash I have to let system boot to OS then use BIOSDirect utility to restart system to BIOS and set USB to full detect. Every other MB seems to have at worst 1 specific USB port for keyboard.

I got my mvf box up and running. I'm loving this board. If you ask me, many of the features on this bad boy ought to come standard on ALL mobos. :)

The first one is that q-code led!

The second is the great sound off the motherboard!

Is the integrated waterblock aluminum? I don't like to mix metals in my loops. Considering this MB though.

So I purchased the Maximus V Formula the other day. I have an i7 3770k in it and I have done some google searches. My Debug code stays at A0 instead of showing temp. IS there a way to fix this?

I have updated Bios to latest and no good.

I've read downgrade bios, but im not sure which one to downgrade to.

Any help is appreciated!
