Even if you don’t care much for Ubuntu, you have to admit that the naming scheme is rather unique. That being said, Raring Ringtail or more formally Ubuntu Linux 13.04 has reached the beta 1 stage and is now available for download.

Among the notable new additions visible in these latest versions are an updated Linux 3.8 kernel along with KDE Plasma and Applications 4.10.1 and Secure Boot support in the Kubuntu 13.04 beta and the reintroduction of Gnumeric and GIMP in Xfce-based Xubuntu 13.04.

After this they're looking at moving to a rolling release which is really interesting for ubuntu.

I run Xubuntu 12.04 and I love it. I might upgrade to 13.04 and try to see if I can get Cinnamon to work with it.

I tested it out and love the install options. It gives you the option to encrypt the drive, which I think is really nice. Otherwise, more or less the same, but lots of under the hood changes. Personally waiting for Mint 15 version.

^^ I'll also be sticking with Mint. :)
