How soon we forget our roots. The granddaddy of all domain names turned 28 years old on Friday. Back in 1985, Symbolics.com, a computer manufacturer, was registered as domain name #1. The Internet has now grown to give Symbolics a bit of company with over 250 Million websites and growing daily.

Symbolics (the company) built computer systems in Cambridge, Mass., making workstations that ran on a software language called Lisp. In fact, Symbolics was making computer workstations before the term "workstation" even existed.

Wow!

Only 28 years old. Man I'm getting old, 28 years doesn't seem that long to me anymore. LOL

anyone able to find a line or bar graph showing the annual growth of domain names? I would like to see such data - TIA if you can provide a link to same

def doesn't seem that old, and of all companies...

is that the first reigstered, publically?

sure the government or the schools that invented the internet had www names or something?

Seems more like a personal website, not a business. Although with all the traffic it generates, it probably gives him enough in ad revenue to make it worthwhile

The reason it looks more like a personal website is because it was sold to XF in 2009. SInce then it has become XF's owner's personal SEO/Domain blog.

My all time favorite has to be www.penisland.com whoever created that didn't think it through. Still makes me chuckle.
