SS2 on GOG

Don't think so. You need to put points in weapons to improve accuracy and damage or to even wield more advanced weapons. IIRC, there are melee, light, and heavy weapon classes. I think increasing weapon skill also may reduce wear and tear.

Thanks mate. Been wondering. Sometimes it seems like i'll do a crit or something, because i'll kill a guy in 2 hits vs the usual 3.

I guess they must be hurt already.

It depends on if they are unaware of your presence or recovering from an action, it always seemed.

Yea it's just confusing trying to wrap my head around the stats and skills and all that nonsense. This game is way more RPG than DX.

But i will say, it looks pretty nice. I've got bloom on, anti aliasing, new textures, new models, etc etc...

IIRC, low level telekinesis is a default psy ability, so the amp is nice for pulling down goodies that they hide up in the rafters and such.

Yea it just seems i need to spend 13 points on the Teir 1 unlock so i can even do any of that. I'll definitely be picking up some psi moves just to have a few more tricks up my sleeve.

I started on hard at first, and got my ass kicked. I'm playing on normal now lol.

it's weird that this game has effective checkpoints, and that there's no game over until you run out of resources.

Correct. This can save you a bit of hassle with things like ammo and needing to repair weapons if you don't spend any tech points.

Alright! So!! This game is officially badass. I can't believe how big the ship is. At first i figured it'd be a relatively linear game, but its actually pretty free-roaming as you are exploring this ship with nonsense going down.

For the record, any of the youtube videos showing off the modded game's graphics doesn't really give you a real idea of how good it looks. I've been thoroughly impressed with the atmosphere and lighting... the soundtrack and sound effects all fit in perfectly as well. Quite immersive, and it actually scared me last night lol

I didn't realize there were respawns, and they caught me off guard as i was hacking a chest.

So--if you haven't tried this shit, try it.

Now a couple of questions--how does hacking work exactly? Is there a trick to which nodes you click? Or is it just a random roll each time you try to access a node?

Is loot dispersed randomly for each new playthrough?

How important is it to have say, one of every skill? Like, i can't research, repair guns, mod guns. Will i want to spend at least one point in each of theses?

Hacksweeper in rolled based on your hacking skill, yes.

Going with a hybrid build is fine, but putting 1 point in everything is something you will kick yourself for later on. I'd focus on just a few abilities as most things can be accomplished several different ways. You never need all of the skills. Being a tech/soldier, or tech/psi or psi/soldier all work fine. As does just focusing on a single "class". You'll miss out on a few things no matter how you build your character, but that's kinda the point.

Damn lol. I've already re-rolled once, maybe i'll end up doing it again. i'm not too far in.

This game is way more RPG than i expected... but that's a good thing :)

Still loving the shit out of this game.

If you haven't played it, you should.

I'm curious how far along i am. I thought i was just finishing up the first deck, then realized that i had apparently done decks one and two while getting the elevator to work. Just started Deck 3.

Also, the lack of a waypoint in this game is awesome. I'm not just following some point on my screen. I haven't been so 'in' to a game in awhile, but when i play this, i'm looking at my map, reading logs i find, etc to figure out what i'm to do. Really drives home what was missing in Skyrim. Real NPC dialogue that meant something, maps that were helpful. Landmarks, etc.

Just good shit!

You're in Hydroponics? IMO that's where the game really starts showing its mettle. Plus... midwives. Bloodthirsty fully mobile beta versions of GLaDOS

Damnit, i figured i'd be seeing worse baddies now! >< Time to put my spec to the test lol

You may have seen one in the shortcut tube in Engineering after you've powered up the engine core. Though, you would remember it, especially if you had the sound turned up.

I've played the game about 3 times through and those midwives still give me a moment of panic. In my current playthrough I'm just finishing up Hydroponics now. I need to backtrack to the chemicals storage room and finish up some research, but it's going well.

Ahh yea i do remember her. And she did scare the shit out of me. I thought it was only the one guy at the end of that hallway, but it wasn't O_O

In total, i think i've jumped 3 times from this game. I like how the game is never paused unless you hit Esc.

I saw a reference to a "Lab Assistant" that would make doing research without any points in research possible. Did i somehow miss it on decks 1-2?

I don't think so. I always just use the inventory screen.

Alright cheers mate. Thanks for answering all my questions lol

I'm going to try to get some screens tonight. This thread is sorely lacking them.. i don't think people realize how good this game can look.

It looks really clean with all the vurt mods, shtup, four hundred, rebirth and all the tacticool weapon packs. The bloom is done just right, too.

It all depends on what you want. Some skills work just fine with 1 point such as research and modify. Hacking is a very good skill to put a few points into. As far as weapons go, standard weapons are the best investment. Heavy weapons are the strongest but you wont be using them as much since there are ammo limitations. You can totally ignore all weapons if you decide to play as a psi ops though since youll want to focus on that instead.

The mods are great but I'd recommend playing through the game the first time without the rebirth mod. I thought the original models were spookier than the modded ones.

Has anyone had luck running this new GOG release of SS2 in 3D Vision? Some people on the nVidia forms say it works great, but it doesn't render in 3D for me despite being a DX9 game. 3D Vision activates, and the lasersight appears, but there's no separation.
