Galaxy GTX 680 (the white one) not Catleap-friendly?

My fault for not doing the research. My roommate saw someone selling a white Galaxy GTX 680 with 3 fans on it, and asked me to get it for him. We both have the Catleaps, mine can do up to 111Hz and his can do 120. He wanted to replace his GTX 670 with this certain card because we've discovered that GTX 680s are able to do 120hz on his monitor.

Anyway, we didn't realize that this thing had 3 DP and 1 HDMI port but no DVI port. The Catleap only has a dual-link DVI input mode. We're fucked, yes?

Can't run 120Hz with using two different adapters. Stuck with 60.

Damn. These things are like 100 bucks. SO it'd be like paying $600 for this video card altogether, supposing the adapter actually let us overclock our monitors to 120Hz.

if its the GALAXY SOC 1202 core i buy it from you

same happened to me i had a CROSSOVER and sold it cauz you NEED A HIGH QUALITY ACTIVE adapter DPORT TO DVI D DUAL LINK one costs like 200 bucks from dell and its assured to work perfect so i wasnt willing to pay more and more, get him another card with native DVI D and save yourself a headache, if its the 1202 core version ill buy it, i already have 2 of them

cheers
Sergio

Well, that really sucks. I was hoping he'd enjoy this fine piece of hardware. I don't understand why there couldn't have been just ONE DVI port at least. Gawd.

thats cauz the card was originally prepared for hard bench in LN2 with an external panel that GALAXY would provide that NEVER came cauz new nvidia policies, no dvis to save space remember card is full cover with plenty of heatpipes i think if they put DVI they would have use another slot.

I think you're screwed with that card. My catleap wouldn't take signal from a DP to DVI adapter, I ended up having to get a card that had dual link when I had one.

Really sorry to hear this happened to you :(

I can confirm though that the card is the SOC 1202mhz version. The other version which is still sold in stores is the GC which is clocked lower but is the exact same hardware and ports. There is a very helpful Galaxy rep on the forums I would recommend you getting in touch with. I am sure if there is a solution that he/she will be able to help you find it.

Hope you get the card working, it is one fine piece of hardware

I think he would have probably noticed this thread by now. But I'll give him a ring and see if they provide adapters at a lower price than normal. I've PMed him with info about this thread. I really don't to sell this sexy card.

The HDMI standard is limited to 60Hz for most displays, meaning the DP output is your only hookup option on this card for 100Hz+ refresh rates. If you have a DVI monitor, this unfortunately means you'll need an active adapter that can support dual-link output. I've looked high and low, and this $88 DP to Dual-link DVI adapter is the cheapest I've managed to find that will support 120Hz:

http://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-...8&sr=8-21&keywords=active+displayport+adapter

This would be my best recommendation for connecting your display.

On the details of that adapter, it shows this:

"Supports DVI-D Dual-Link Resolutions to 2560x1600@60Hz or 1920x1080@120Hz for 3D Monitors"

Supporting only up to 60hz for 2560x resolution leads me to believe that it can't go over 60hz... :(

Not at 2560x1600 it can't, but that's a limitation of DVI, not the adapter. 2560x1600 @ 60Hz or 1920x1080@120Hz are the maximum resolutions and refresh rates for Dual link DVI. As far as I'm aware there's no way to do 2560x1600@120Hz over DVI.

But at 2560x1440 it can? (should be able to?) Because we currently have our monitors at 110 and 115 Hz with our configurations at the moment through DVI.

I can't really guarantee any 3rd party product I haven't used myself, but it supports a 330Mhz pixel clock exactly the same as dual link DVI so in theory any resolution that works over DVI should work with this adapter. I've got to say that 2560x1440@110Hz over DVI sounds pretty atypical though.

Well actually that only officially supported spec. DVI is only supposed to go to 60Hz 2 2560x1600, but there's no real reason why that adapter cant go higher. It depends mostly on the on board TDMS Clocks. Ask VEGA, as he used some adapters that went very high. He was using 3 120Hz catleaps with dp->DL-DVI adapters.

Alas, I myself am official so the officially supported spec is what I must refer to. All I can say is that evidence strongly suggests this device should do what you need it to do.

wow a GALAXY representant thats very nice you must do this on xtremesystems forums mate we need you there :)

Thanks. I'll go check it out sometime.

you should we need you there

i been asking GALAXY to improve XtremeTuner BETA with custom fan profile for the last 3 months, i did a ticket and they where very good on replying fast but they tell me to use the older version wich sucks...i dont know why they removed that cauz cards heat up badly without a custom profile

also the ONLY software that i can use to add memory volts its XtremeTuner so im tied to it, im using MSI Afterbuner but both dont work togheter

Thanks PM me on xtreme: andressergio

Cheers to all and sorry to mess in this thread seller

Good feedback, I'll be sure and bring all of these points up with the engineers and see what they say. Thanks.

Yeah just talked to their rep. It only supports up to 1080p. $60 is still too steep. *sigh*

What the fuck is this? I tried two different 24" HDMI monitors and upon installing the latest beta drivers and WHQL ones, both monitors go black as soon as it enters Windows, and just keeps going black and the display keeps turning off then the black screen comes on, in a never ending loop. What the fuck were Galaxy engineers thinking, let's put 3 mini HDMI and DP on this beast. And I just bought an adapter from NickJames, but now I'm having second thoughts about keeping this card. Yeah its my fault for not researching but my god, no one should go through all this trouble. Now I'm out 500 bucks.

Please don't take this the wrong way but this is very similar to the Nvidia vs AMD 120Hz 3D monitors. You really need to research these things before you buy the wrong thing. If i were you I'd grab the adapter that the Galaxy rep unofficially endorsed. :) Yes, it is more than you intended to spend but it's Amazon so if it's wrong you can send it back for a full refund.

Good luck!

If you go to the settings screen in XtremeTuner BETA you can set a temp that if exceeded will increase fan speed to what you set it at. It is not fancy like a fan curve but it will let you speed up your fan in high temps.

Regarding the design decisions on this card, all I can say is I've passed every word of you guys' feedback on to HQ so the R&D department can see all of it.

As for the black screens, does this happen only with the new drivers? What version did you have before the problem started, and does it go away if you uninstall and reinstall from the disc?

Sorry, yeah, I think it's because I didn't clean out the ATI drivers before installing the Nvidia ones. When I put back in my ATi cards they were giving me the same black screen flickering treatment and had to do a reformat of Windows because Teamviewer wouldn't let me in and remove the drivers. I apologize for my tone today, I was getting frustrated.

That sounds about right. Driver remnants can do all sorts of crazy stuff. That and Windows can be extra fickle about startup sometimes-- I had a similar black screen problem earlier this week and the cause turned out to be my router. I'm still surprised I figured that out in one sitting.
