Hi, all.

For a mid-range IPS display (I have the Viewsonic VP2365, which Viewsonic says is "professional," but clearly take that with a grain of salt), how helpful is professional calibration (Spyder) to overall image quality?

I'm mainly interested in the white (backgrounds) being as purely white as possible and text looking as sharp as possible.

It's a lot of money, but I may try to buy a used one from eBay.

Thank you.

Immense.
Colorimeters allow me to buy low-mid range panels and not think twice. You can buy a 200-300 IPS/PLS and profile it and it will be more than fine for professional/semi-pro use in most cases.

Thank you.

My plan has been foiled, though, as it looks like the Spyder programs only allow you to use it once per monitor (or once per PC)? Something like that.

I'm wondering if you can use it once, at least find out how much to tweak either the gamma or color temperature, change the RGB values on your monitor, and then have someone else re-use?

Spyder 1/2/3, Xrite i1 Display 2 and Display Pro, all of them can be used as many times on as many displays as you like. I am not sure I follow the restriction issue you are talking about. Once you buy the hardware puck you can even use other SW with it. If you are not buying a puck you are not profiling your display at all.

I will have to look into those.

On Amazon, at least two reviews for the Spyder4Express say that it can only be used on one monitor/PC.
