SimCity V (2013) - screens/artwork and information

Ha! I love RPS, even if they are crazy brits...

You probably don’t agree with me. I don’t blame you. After SimCity’s initial stumble off a cliff into a nice, cushion-y pile of broken glass and shattered expectations, I barely even agree with me.

Being online was a "design decision from the dev team, its not something that was handed down..."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=nsbA7s5HlBA

So basically Maxis decided it would be best to implement multiplayer in such a way as to make the game worthless without an internet connection, or reliable servers. I wanted to punch his fat face in when he said that everyone should be happy for cloud gaming because it makes life so much easier... Guess that went right out the fucking window within 24 hours of launch didn't it you fat fuck? Then when he was asked about not being able to play when servers go down his response was to "promise" that they would try to bring them back up as soon as possible. Great, so ignore the fact that people cant play a game they paid for if there server starts fucking itself.

That fatass needs to be the first one publicly fired followed by everyone fucking employee in charge of making major game design changes.

Well, as of 2 hours ago, my self sustaining city blew up. All of the sudden, every building in my town needed garbage collection, and my recycling centers and garbage centers stopped collecting (regardless of how many trucks I had). This was after 5 hours of just letting it run.

Yea. I don't know why the ai bugs out so hard. You can just let a city with huge excess of everything run for like 30 mins come back and you are broke and the city is burning down. I had one city with 260k ppl 3k positive income and a trade hq that made 250k a day and came back 30 mins later and I was running out of sewage treatment capacity when before I left I had in excess of 170kgal and power excess of 200mw water excess of over 200kgal. I also had 100k in the bank. Then zero money and half of my city was abandoned.

Pretty big statement from Maxis and a present for you!

http://www.ea.com/news/a-simcity-update-and-something-for-your-trouble

Here’s a quick update on the problems we were experiencing with SimCity – and a little something extra for people who bought the game.

The server issues which began at launch have improved significantly as we added more capacity. But some people are still experiencing response and stability problems that we’re working fast to address.

So what went wrong? The short answer is: a lot more people logged on than we expected. More people played and played in ways we never saw in the beta.

OK, we agree, that was dumb, but we are committed to fixing it. In the last 48 hours we increased server capacity by 120 percent. It’s working – the number of people who have gotten in and built cities has improved dramatically. The number of disrupted experiences has dropped by roughly 80 percent.

So we’re close to fixed, but not quite there. I’m hoping to post another update this weekend to let everyone know that the launch issues are behind us.

I had similar issues with demolishing a recycling center and then later adding one, there was tons of recycling backed up in the city but the trucks wouldn't pick anything up. Also, my current city says I have 40kgal excess water treatment capability but its still telling me I have standing sewage. Ive also noticed that when you add a power plant, it automatically adds the additional power output before the building is filled with workers and working.

Hopefully EA is paying its staff to work weekends and they get some shit done with the servers so the rest of the team can start work on fixing the AI.

Please stop going to all the vendors and asking for a refund! We'll give you a free game!

That said, its going to be a game that you can ONLY claim on March 18th between the hours of 12:00 and 3:00 Northern Siberian Time and will only be from a select category of B quality titles.

At least she's willing to admit that they were pretty dumb in their estimations of player demand...kinda makes me wonder if the guys in charge of reserving the proper number of servers didn't have access to pre-order sales numbers from the accounting departments. That wouldn't surprise me, most large companies have huge communication issues.

I guess I have a hard time seeing someone look at the preorder numbers, and then look at server capacity capabilities and being like....NAAAAaaaa, we don't need that many servers. I mean seriously, they were off by over 120%....that's a pretty serious oversight.

Wait, what are people talking about wanting cheetah speed back? I have it....just played a bit and I've always been able to select between Turtle, lliama, and Cheetah....unless I'm missing something?

Anyone know how to do borderless fullscreen? I feel this should be a standard feature now for all games.

yea I've given up on expecting "standard" features in pc games by now, just use autohotkey. install that, and paste this script into noborder.ahk or somesuch name, set the x/y res to fit yours, and game options to play windowed at your res. then hit the toggle (ctrl+shift+tab) and it will either strip the borders at full res, and/or scale the window up to fill your screen, hit it again to restore.

; toggle maximise/restore and window borders

; set resolution
w = 1680
h = 1050
; ctrl+shift+tab to trigger
^+tab::
; ok to toggle, cancle to exit
msgbox,1,confirm,toggle window borders?
ifmsgbox, cancel
return
; maximise active window and remove borders
SetTitleMatchMode, 2
WinGet Style, Style, A
if(Style & 0xC40000) {
WinGetPos, X, Y, Width, Height, A
WinSet, Style, -0xC40000, A
WinMove,A,,0,0,w,h
; restore active window and borders
} else {
WinSet, Style, +0xC40000, A
WinMove,A,,%X%,%Y%,%Width%,%Height%
}
return
;

Holy shit snacks, gotta grab me some popcorn to properly enjoy this half time entertainment!

Don't know if its just cause ppl said screw this and went to bed but all servers are running beautifully right now...

But how in the hell am I supposed to find somewhere to play. Why when I click "Join Game" it only gives me servers that are full. Also, most of these cities have 0 people. I don't know if that is a glitch or what.

If you're not trolling, Cheetah speed has been patched to be the same as 'Llama speed' until EA gets their borked up server fiasco fixed...

Or just hadn't logged out yet to receive the forced patch? Who knows, who cares, lot of bizarre people on the nets. But the fastforward option does not exist as of this moment so you have the unique privilege of watching every blade of grass grow.

General Manager for Maxis says sorry and offers free copy of MoH:Warfighter as a special consolation for all the trouble (LMAO)

http://www.ea.com/news/a-simcity-update-and-something-for-your-trouble

The good news is that SimCity is a solid hit in all major markets. The consensus among critics and players is that this is fundamentally a great game. But this SimCity is made to be played online, and if you can’t get a stable connection, you’re NOT having a good experience. So we’re not going to rest until we’ve fixed the remaining server issues.

And to get us back in your good graces, we’re going to offer you a free PC download

how do you know which game? All it said was a free copy didnt say which game. But if its MoH: W I will pass, game sucked really hard and thats nothing for the troubles.

obviously. just giving a tongue-in-cheek example scenario

Apparently there may be a working "unofficial" offline patch doing the rounds. No idea if it works, I'm sure others will verify it in the next couple of hours.

Edit: probably fake, not seeing anyone talking about it in the places you usually expect.

Ah yes, this is damn near identical to the press release from EA saying it was gamers fault for the game not working because it was so popular. It also unsurprisingly completely ignores the fact that people had been complaining about these things in Beta, so how the fuck did they get "taken by surprise" when people were bitching about it before launch?

It kind of sounds like it will be a free game that we get to choose. If that's the case, it would definitely make me feel better about not being able to play SimCity much.

Could always pick SimCity 4 in that case. :D

So i watched a review, no big ass cities all of your own anymore? You really have to manage many cities to achieve the same?

Yes, basically. No more building out a nice Metropolis. Now you have to "specialize" the new, feature-deleted version of a city, now with an arbitrary restriction on size - and its relatively small. Example, you choose a gambling oriented city -- with the idea being that co-op partners would build their own complementary specialized cities - that interact with one another in automatic ways that you or your co-op partner have no control over. Its a mess.

I'm sure it all sounded great in the brainstorming sessions at Maxis when the braintrust dreamt it all up, but the execution so far has been terrible. They had a money printing machine right under their noses and they squandered the opportunity: let people build big ass cities - a nice big Metropolis - offline. Nope. No can do. The MBA's and the marketing majors had other goals.

The speculation of course is that "bigger cities" will come later in the form of DLC. Thats part of whats got everyone hot under the collar, that they seem hellbent on SimCity becoming a revenue stream rather than a one-time purchase, essentially reducing the game to an online service - a thinking man's Farmville with pretty graphics.

Just to clear up speculation they never stated that the bigger city size would be a DLC.

And after many years of anticipation i just lost all interest. I dont want to play sim city with others and i dont want to micromanage the crap out of a half dozen cities. It was enough work in the old days making one massive city that took care of everything.

So my first city grew to about 92000 people, but started hemorrhaging cash fast and it basically failed .
Second city I was able to stay online with a stable connection for a few good hours and I'm on my way with a solid growing city :)

But I can't figure out how to build oil wells or a gambling hall.any help on where to find these buildings?

Well of course they haven't, that would cause a huge outcry. Right now they keep repeating 'small cities are good, its not inert, its just like the real world global economy lala lala' whenever someone asks about the crippling size limits.

When the DLC comes it'll be to add 'amazing new game modes' rather than 'fix the game'.

Heh, as previous poster said of course they wouldn't say that, let alone at this stage of the game -- all the press and public statements between Maxis and EA are very carefully worded and controlled. My statement about there being a reasonable assumption that bigger city DLC is coming is for the statements they have made about "already having bigger cities working" and the excuse for holding it back they claim are performance related - "your dad's PC wouldn't be able to handle it". This has people scratching their heads since in its current incarnation, SimCity is hardly a system killer.

And a big(ger) city option obviously wouldn't be the naming for the DLC -- it won't be standalone but more likely bundled in with some larger pack of stuff also deleted from the base version and regurgitated as "premium add-on content", and given a cute name - some dreck like "Bigger! Better!" or "The Metropolis Set"

Meanwhile when SimCity runs as it exists now it really isnt hitting GPU or CPU hard at all.

And a big city/Metropolis won't be the naming for the DLC -- it'll likely be a part of some larger pack with a cute name that will also contain subways, etc.

I think given EAs track record and reading some of whats being said that you are just reading what you want to read. By bigger cities i am 100% positive they mean larger regions and bigger cities inside of that region. Not bigger cities as in the previous sim city games.

Frankly from what i am seeing to make it work like the old games would be a massive overhaul of the game in its current state.

Well then by all means buy the game and see for yourself -- because its far from my reading what i want to read. The sentiments are pretty widespread.

Here's a cheat sheet that someone on Reddit made to get you started. Worth printing out.

So the SimCity dev team was all sitting around thinking of ways to make SimCity better when Dave looked up and said "I have an idea". He then climbed onto the boardroom table, took off his shirt, kicked off his shoes, slide his pants off, spread his legs, half squated then took hold of his penis, pulled it taught, pushed it back between his legs and forced the head in his ass. He let go with his hands and his penis stayed in his ass...slowly he stood up from squat, penis remaining in his ass....
Everyone just sat and watched. Dave stood there, glorious, nude, with his own cock in his ass...
Then Janice pushed back her chair, stood up and started to slowly clap. One by one the rest of the SimCity team started to clap. Some smiling, others nodding.
Richard, the intern turned to Sam, who had been there much longer and asked "What was the idea".
Sam smiled and said "Online only DRM dude....Online only DRM...Frigging brilliant".

My latest city which is extremely mining heavy:

The biggest game breaking thing for me is water. It runs out and doesn't seem to ever come back. My city will eventually fall apart from it.

From what I have gathered, it's because they turned off weather so landlocked cities like yours get boned because rain water doesn't replenish the water supply in the ground.

This is hearsay though, I've only heard people on streams talk about it

A bunch of the region features still don't work for me while some people I know can get visitors and commuters while I get boned :confused::confused::confused:

Go to the city specialization button on bottom left corner of your screen right under city view and you'll find all the buildings you need. Took me a while to locate it as well.

Traffic gets shitty, crime gets shitty, Universities take fucking forever to research shit and the goddamn sirens going off incessantly annoys me so much I had to play with the volume off and I couldn't figure out how to get my other city to support my other city because I guess its primarily some passive bullshit that doesn't work.

I hate EA. Burned me for the last time.

Did they announce a tablet version of this? I'm thinking we may have to start talking about the tabletification of PC games :-p
