NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

mITX market just keeps getting better :D:D:D:D

Computers will just end up getting smaller and smaller as they are able to shrink component sizes.... 10 years from now, an itx cube may be thought of as a full tower :p

damn, i'd love to see a render of that inside the M1.

And saying this is being marketed as a "sleek look over functional design" is sort of ridiculous. Find me a case that looks this good and has the numerous mounting configurations this one does.

It appears you misread or just misquoted as I said "never marketed as a sleek look over functional design product" not the other way around. Yes it is a great looking case no doubt. But even the SG05 which is what this project was based off comes with a slot for an ODD as standard. Yes I'm aware the voting thus far is in favor of the ODD and in my opinion that is a good thing.

Damn! That card really makes me want to see a shorter and smaller M1! Just imagine it with only room for a short GPU, SFX only PSU (fan towards mobo, exhaust out the top), and 2 slots... perfect SFF!

How is the top ODD slot even an issue for people? I didn't even notice it until I read these last pages of the thread. Not sure if it's been suggested before, but why not make a small piece of plastic that you can clip on in the inside of the case that perfectly lines up with the hole for example.

You obviously missed versions 1-4 then. The ODD became an issue until after version 4.1 was in it's 2nd revision, or quite late in the design process. The ODD wasn't mentioned until post #918.

You could get case # 9 putting you in the first ten of cases produced but if mine is case #150 and my rig has bigger cpu and GPU and my performance numbers smash yours who is the winner? ;)

I'd say the guys designing this awesome case! Or all of us, being able to bring a case catered to OUR needs to market, instead of being fed what they think works

 I guess I'm one of the few people who plays blu-rays on their TV via their PC even though it's not exactly a dedicated HTPC (see sig for setup pics) and just isn't that crazy about using an external that clogs up another USB port while I have SATA ports to spare.

@kuhla: There is quite a bit of support for an internal ODD. It just happens to be a bit of a divisive issue.

Given that the top panel doesn't carry anything, would it make sense to make it a sliding panel that can slide back to reveal the optical drive when needed? That would also support non-slot-load drives.

I suppose even if the case doesn't come that way, it shouldn't be too hard to mod it.

Still on post ~1500.... but I donated $50 to help the cause. I'm ready to dive into SFF and want this case! Keep it up Gents!!!:D:D

Trolling is a bit harsh, I posted those Abee limited editions for a bit of fun. At $320 to $380 (+ Abee shipping) + buying agent commission + overseas shipping + import duty + sales tax, I don't think there will be many takers, even for children.

How about racing stripes:

Hmm... that would be pretty awesome, actually. This is such an awesome idea, in fact, that I'm going to have the whole production run painted this way! No more boring black - racing stripes all the way! Everybody will love it! Thanks for the awesome idea!

as long as that heart is full of swarovski crystals I'll order a dozen

Since we're day dreaming here... Gimme something classic like a knight battling a fire breathing dragon. And I don't mean one of those chinese dragons. A good old nasty breathing western medieval type dragons. :D

The Asus mini card looks nice. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you want to use a full length ATX PSU some of the shorter Zotac cards like the 660 should fit (180 mm length). You can also use a reference PCB 670 with an after market cooler like the Arctic Cooling Accelero Mono Plus.

Yeah, pretty much any card under 200mm will work.

You can also use a reference PCB 670 with an after market cooler like the Arctic Cooling Accelero Mono Plus.
You have to be careful with this - see how far Accelero Mono hangs off the side of the card:

That actually puts the edge of the heatsink 10-15mm outside the case. So yeah, be careful with any cards/heatsinks that are a lot wider than normal. The Accelero S1 is the same. The Accelero L2 Plus shouldn't be a problem, though it's limited to 120W. The Twin Turbo II looks like it could fit, just. Even though it's too long to avoid conflict with a longer PSU, it could buy enough clearance for a modular 140mm.

FYI, the Asus Ares II won't fit because of its width either. Stuff like this is outside of what the PCIe specification allows, so. The M1 supports cards that conform to the official spec.

This thing won't have any problems fitting a Titan, right? With an SFX psu that is.

Titan is 10.5 inches, its capable of more than that. Also Titan is a dual slot card not even a triple which the case will support.

It'll fit, but how is the Titan's power consumption? I haven't done much research on it (other than finding out about its ridiculous price).

Wow. Where have I been during this whole thread? I Love clean looking cases, and will pay a premium to own one. Congrats on getting this far guys.

Great. It won't fit with a normal ATX PSU though right?

I'm running a 3570K and Titan both overclocked on an ST45SF-G, haven't had any problems.

I know it was mentioned before but i really can't find it^^... when i have a watercooled card, what is the depth between the watercooler and the button?

Did you mean bottom? It depends on the waterblock, since they vary in thickness. Some are single slot, many are a bit over. It's probably more useful to know the distance between the PCB of a card in the first slot and the bottom of the case, which is 62mm. Then you can subtract your waterblock thickness from that to find the distance remaining to the case floor.

yeah, that is what i mean ... my mac changes some words i want to write is those i don't want to write^^... Thanks for your quick answer!
