Now that current consoles are coming to a close, which was the best PC compliment?

Which console do you think ended up being the best compliment for people who ALREADY OWN A GAMING PC?

That's going to be a hard question...Both the 360 and PS3 had exclusives but most games were on the PC as well as the console overall.

As a PC primary gamer I prefer the PS3. network streaming works. I never got it working right on my x360. I also don't feel obligated to pay for anything subscription wise on my PS3. The PC community is big on that.

Between SmartGlass, and Media Center/Extender, my Xbox works quite nicely for putting out videos/music on my PC to the TV without headache.

I also liked that games for windows live gave you the same geek points that playing them on the 360 did

It's tough to pick. All had good exclusives in my opinion. PS3 is useful as a media server as well, free online, and PS+. Some of my favorite games have been on XBLA, and a good number have eventually released on PC, but for games like Braid and Fez it was great to be able to play them day 1. The Wii's motion control ended up being a disappointment, but there were still fun Nintendo exclusives. If anything, the Wii offered the most unique experience compared to the PC.

Looking at my games collection, I have more PS3 games that never made it to the PC than 360 ones.
However there's also something to be said for being able to (easily) use the same controller for both the 360 and PC, too.

Never cared for Halo or Gears of War that much, so PS3 for me. Had some awesome exclusives.

Every console has great games, my advice skip one graphics card/CPU cycle and you can afford all current consoles.

They still have some great ones coming out this year. Ni No Kuni was just released. Beyond Two Souls, Deadly Premonition: Directors Cut, Last of Us, a handful of JRPGs and many more to come. Kind of odd with PS4 around the corner but I'm not complaining.

I found myself wishing PS3-exclusives were on PC far more than those on the Xbox, so I guess the PS3 was the better complement.

I used to say PS3 because many of the 360 games were also on PC.

However, since both 720 and PS4 are going to be very similar architecture wise (very PC like), I see many more cross platform games across consoles and PC. I think that the games overall quality will be better too as less resources will need to be put into optimizing for different platforms.

Affording all the $60 console games is another story... ;)

Yeah, I was just about to say that. Even though consoles cost less up front, over time they cost more than gaming PCs since the software is more expensive and goes on sale less often.

Don't buy new games day one hell right now some of the newest titles are on sale for 39.99 and there are tons of awesome game in the 15 to 30 range. PC games add up to if you buy new games steam sales don't count hell psn and Xbox live are running huge sales all the time.

That more over time shit doesn't float. I've spent and saved the same across all platforms that includes PC.

Don't know all the details but I believe the Vita can do PS3 a lot of the things Smart Glass can do.

There are apps for your phone to run things like Netflix on PS3.

Yeah the PS3 has this for Youtube as well and I don't really see the point. You can essentially search for youtube content on your phone and it plays on the PS3/TV.

However, the PS3 youtube app is much improved now and they have fixed the chronic stuttering problems. Youtube on the PS3 is quite nice now and the search method on the PS3 is very clever.

PS3 does this easily too

PS3 has smartglass and media extender?

I vote the 360. The arcade store has tons of great games you may otherwise have missed. The PS3 is nice as well but only first party titles are really worth while.

The 360 is also cheaper.

My best advice if you have to choose one is just look at the games which one has the most unique games that interest you that aren't available on PC. No one can answer that for you.

The Wii. It offered a distinctly different experience to the PC.

Agreed. I've always seen the PS3/Xbox360 as a poor man's gaming PC. The majority of the most popular games are on all three platforms. For the games that aren't there is usually something that provides a simular game play experience that is available on the other systems. The Wii (like it or hate it) has a lot that can't be found on any other platform. That contrast makes it the perfect compliment to the PC.

I disagree completely

The fact that the PC has Dolphin makes that a mute point in literally every regard.

As for the original topic, I would say the PS3. It has a vastly better exclusive library.

I played the hell out of my Ps3. There are some amazing games on it. The Uncharted series are some of the most fun games I played this gen.

I'll also throw a nod to the Wii. You can get one dirt cheap and there are plenty of outstanding games available

i really hate how the ps3 controller doesn't have a frigging headset plug in it. if it did my friend and i would have played so many ps3 games through online co-op. instead we played everything on 360 because we could chat without having to buy an extra headset.

Really? Just buy a cheap bluetooth headset. I have yet to find one that doesn't work on the PS3.

Bad thing is they just fixed it (stuttering problems) only 2-3 months ago. The PS3 has been out since late 2006. About time they fix it don't you think?

Ps3 because the PSN is free and you're not shelling out a yearly amount to play games online just like you can do in Steam for free.
Ps3 also has (IMHO) better exclusives. I love Gears but Uncharted does the cover system damn good too and has a lot more color than just brown, gray, and....other brown. :D

When you are a PC Gamer you get consoles for the exclusives you like that you can't play on pc. These days almost everything is multiplatform so it doesn't matter as much.

Nintendo: Mario/Zelda/etc
Xbox: Halo/Gears
Sony: Resistance, Uncharted, etc

Or if you got the $$$ you get all 3!

The PS3s exclusives are less generic. Most the Xbox eclusives are just cover shooter 63, generic racer 533 and corridor shooter 1034, nothing the pc doesn't have piles of better alternatives already.

Incidentally, the PC still has next to no fighting games...

Bingo i slowed my PC upgrade cycles to afford all consoles, get more games for my buck that way.

Gee I wonder which console you don't like :)

It's not a question of what I do or don't like... Xbox exclusive games just tend to cater more the "mainstream", and thus tend to be more..generic. Even an Xbox fan such as you can admit that (or point out one that isn't?). :p

I can't really I like so many different games and genres. I love halo and kill zone. I like call of duty but not the newer ones as much. I love racing games, forza more than gran turismo. On PC I love twitch shooters like quake and unreal tournament. But then I like platformers too. And love fighting and sports games.

Most of all I love mixing it up with my older consoles, Dreamcast, nes, genesis etc. I don't get rid of consoles or games.

I would not say that any one is more plain than another. What I will say is I mostly play the single player of many new shooters too many d-bags and rage quitters and foul mouths.

In this topic I still say that the best PC compliment system is the one that offers you the individual something you can't get on PC. That will be different for everybody.

But that's why people end up with PS3s...the Xbox titles are either generic or available on PC...

halo = Generic shooter, forza = Generic driver.

Come on, name 1 non generic Xbox excluse? :p

In your opinion halo is generic, halo 4 is a great game. And forza horizon is fun right up there with burnout Paradise, and you can't play either on PC.

There are many as you would say generic PS3 games as well, but then you have the keepers like uncharted and kill zone.

Games like many things are good or bad in the opinion of the user that's why we have variety. What I might love you might hate.

I love fable that's an exclusive, also DOA 4, I'm not so much a gears fan.

on Nintendo its anything with Mario, Zelda, Samus. Luigi's mansion and Mario 64 are freaking classics.

If your trying to pick a console fight or PC fight it won't work I literally play every console in my collection very often as well as PC.

I will by certain games on a given platform depending on if I play online with certain friends or family. Example my son and I play borderlands 2 on Xbox because we play with all his friends and cousins.

I have zero hate for any platform but fanboy like blindness or close minded attitudes do kinda Piss me off since more frequently than not its influenced by blind devotion or when people can't afford something they will talk shit about it.
