SimCity V (2013) - screens/artwork and information

This could just be pessimism towards EA, but if they do indeed handle this like The Sims 3, I foresee a lot of problems. That game has to be one of the buggiest things I have ever experienced (my GF plays it, but I had to set it all up for her). Many of the bugs have been there since release however many years ago and never resolved. Not even so much as acknowledgement from EA that there even are problems. The only time a patch is released is when an expansion pack is released, and generally the list of fixes is extremely minimal. Pretty much just a compatibility patch for the new expansion to work.

I hope this game doesn't share the same fate.

EA says the constant connection is "required" for their social features, however, I see it that they forced the constant connection as DRM then had to find features to support the connection.

Leader boards
Cloud computing
Cloud saves

I don't need nor want any of that.

A solution looking for a problem, if you will.

The shitty EA game aside, This argument....... seriously... are you using a dial up connection or something? We're in 2013. I cannot fathom how it could be such a big deal to anyone in here... let alone anyone at all. UNLESS you're a pirate. Not much fun to crack an online game is it...?

That said if you should steal from anyone I'd say steal from EA - not defending EA here, I hate what they are. But this argument is just way too obviously an excuse for pirates to defend piracy.

Let me guess, you have a second home in the mountains and you have to use a 56 k modem there, right?

Even without the DRM nonsense, this game has some issues.
- crippling traffic in large cities
- sims refuse to use public transportation
- massive water shortages, regardless of strategy (filtration + sewage plant)
- inexplicable tourism shit (have successful casinos, open another, then all of them hemmorage money. LOL WAT?)

Bugs man, bugs.

Yup! I plopped some casino add-on's but they are no where to be found but it says max reached! Even using the guides for a bridge it wont let me create one in a much needed area.

i found a solution for my water issues, put the water pumps right next to sewage treatment plants cause after the sewage is treated it goes back into the ground as clean water. and i seemd to have plenty, just make sure you have all the addons for sewage and i had an endless supply of water.

So because he doesn't like not having his save on EA server he's a pirate?
I've stopped downloading games years ago and I don't like it either (note: I didn't buy SimCity).

They should have done :
Ranked game online only
Sandbox offline only

I don't lose my connection often but I'd be oh so pissed if I lost hours of gaming because EA server decided to screw me. Or hey, we're releasing SimCity 2.0, let's close SimCity server so ppl are forced to buy SC2.0. What can you do about it, it's all online? Bend over and hope you have some vaseline closeby.

I often wonder if some people do anything other than play games. Every time a game has a rough launch or server issues, people bitch and complain like it is the only thing they can possibly do during their day. I fully expected this to happen. So if the game don't work right away, there are plenty of other things that are actually important that I can do. I get it that people pay for something and they expect it to work as advertised, but sometimes that is not the case. The game is fun and I know I will get my monies worth out of it. Maybe not the first week or so, but I am hopeful they get it sorted out... Life is too short to get your panties in a bunch over a game. My 2 cents...

I think I've said something like this before, but people pay release day prices to play on release day, not at some indeterminate time afterwards. Of course there are other things to do, but dismissing complaints because of that is just being oblivious.

But, when you want to play your game and can't?

Would you buy a car but couldn't drive it because the manufacturer put in an engine that only starts sometimes? Would you buy a TV that works only on sunny days? Fuck it. You have better things to do than drive to work or watch TV. Go do something else. Quit bitching.

You buy something and have expectations that it will work. You fork over $60-80 on a game, you want it to work. When it doesn't, you do have reason to bitch. If you pirate something, or get it for free, then you have less reason. But, when you buy something that does not work - you have the right to complain.

Really? I'm planning a trip to Arizona in a couple weeks. Taking the laptop. It'd be nice to play a game in the car while my wife drives. Nope, can't do it. Internet goes down and want to play a game (yes, sometimes the internet goes down. Not everyone lives in the city)? Can't. I don't pirate shit, yet I still don't want everything to be stored on a server somewhere. It's 2013 and it IS a big deal. Like now, EA's servers are overwhelmed. People cannot play.

Bugs man...bugs...

Sometimes building expansions will not "plop". Selecting the expansion and clicking on a useable grid position will make the expansion deselect and not put it down. If there are removeable structures there (such as residential homes) they will be bulldozed, but the new structure will not "plop" down.

Traffic is a nightmare, especially trying to host events that seem to occur at the same time as rush hour in my cities.

Always on connection is a pain in the ass....though I hope that becomes a minimal issue as servers come online and initial load shock goes away.

I have found nothing that explains how to defeat water issues, only recently just figured out the sewage treatment plants replenish the water table around them, as others have recently mentioned.

If you use a recycling center and then demolish it, sims still try to recycle and the piled up recycling counts as ground pollution. If you recreate a recycling center, it does not pickup the recycling.

Public transport is spotty, its definitely used by my sims but at the same time, it doesn't seem to lighten the road traffic. Ive got a 10 stop or so trolley system with 6 cars that goes from the heart of my residential high rises, through the commercial district, and then into my industrial zonings that has like 4k riders a day as well as a huge bus system with somewhere around 6-8k riders a day (with buses coming in from other regional cities) but traffic is just the same. Im willing to bet I could turn them off and congestion wouldn't change.

I've also got a port that brings in a few hundred tourists as well....though they just seem to disappear into the ether after disembarking their ship and walking a few tiles past the dock.

Traffic is a huge deal when your hosting tourism events....nothing like hosting a 45k simoleon event and watching an ill-timed fire on main street or a crime event shutdown traffic and cause a backup all the way to another city on the highway...hell, even a bus stop along the route has a overly noticeable "butterfly effect".

I have to go to school but I could go on with some of this stuff. For me its all minor inconveniences and I still have fun...but I really hope they fix them.

Fair point and I understand that. I was more talking towards the teen rage that people have.

Apples to Oranges honestly. EA and online only games have a history of bad launches. So it is to be expected...

When buying a car, like anything do research. Don't buy a car that has issues...

But yes you buy something, you should expect it to work. But looking at a little history should of gave everyone an idea how this was probably going to go.

I was seriously wanting to get this game but after i read all the issues and the DRM on it count me out. I still remember the DRM fiasco Sony caused many moons ago and DRM rootkits when will companies as big as Blizzard and EA learn to stop inhibiting there games. Just the fact I couldnt play this without a internet connect (ITS A SIM GAME!!!) I dont need the internet to play that. I feel for your guys running into issues i would be just as angry requesting a refund.

On a side note they must have sent out a little update. I just launched the game and an update was applied.

UNABLE TO LOAD CITY PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER. FUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

I HAVE MAJOR BEEFS TO PICK WITH SIM CITY V OMG

can't even play on another server, because it saves your city only on the server you connected to and built your city on, it doesn't copy the city to a main save server, so you can only play your saved city only on one server, and when that server is down for maintenance, well buddy, you aint gettin in to play on your city

yesterday i couldn't logon for hours

servers busy, full, doesn't matter anyway cause you can only connect to one server if you want to play your city

why can't it save the city locally? i don't want it to save my city on its server argh

have to have an internet connection just to play a single player experience

launcher crashes a lot for me, takes forever to load when the server is up, which hasn't been much lately

sim city v is so full of crap, im frustrated with this game beyond belief

It deserves to be bombed. You sell a product that does not work and that is what happens to reviews. I don't care if it is game or a car, you sell a piece of shit it is going to get blasted by reviewers.

I don't buy this "people should have known it wouldn't work day one" thing one fucking bit. That's a pretty dangerous opinion to have--is there a new sliding scale of release days on which I can be assured the thing I just bought will actually work? Am I a sucker for buying it when it is released? If everyone thinks they need to wait a month to buy this stuff, who is to say that these issues won't appear in a month when everyone actually buys it?

The only logical solution is to make your shit work when you start selling it.

SimShitty. Login is closed at this time. Please try again later. Really? Fuck you, EA.

I was actually wondering about this, is that true, can someone else confirm? I guess it doesn't matter I can't even play the game for 15 minutes without it crashing. I've started at least 5 cities and within 15 minutes it crashes and I when I try to load them it says no cities created.

It's called looking at history. Not saying it is right or what we should expect out of products we buy. I am just saying a quick glance at history should show that this may happen. That is all.

This game had potential, but bad decisions have ruined it.

Just like D3, but D3 IMHO had a far less depth and was a bigger colossal screw up. I just spent 9hrs yesterday playing and couldnt get enough. Other than the technical issues with servers and crashes the game to me would be almost perfect.

I'm a fan of the actual game... what I have to do in order to play the game is fucking ridiculous.

ROFL this is just going to keep getting worse and worse, although it is entertaining...I guess I'll check the official forums when I get home for more laughs. :D

Kicked me out of my game. Then updated and now nothing works. Can't even login to the EA Simcity forum now. This game is broken so far.

Whatever they did fixed everything for me. Been playing since my last post. Lots of fun in Sandbox mode.

i heard there was a crack out, maybe you guys can use that to play :O

Or, you could go play SimTower!

If anyone is stuck on that "Checking for Updates" screen, run the SimCityRecovery.exe located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityRecovery

Worked for me.

does anyone else have their cities on us east 1? i'm getting login issues.. really don't wanna lose all that work :(

Oh EA, I can't say that this doesn't surprise me one bit.

I do. "Login is closed at this time."

Overall, this has been a disappointingly bad launch.

I was able to login to a different US server, but my city was not there. Who's bright idea was it to have server specific saves? That is most retarded.
