Dear PETA, make us all happy and go stick a harpoon in your blow hole.

Whaling—that is, shooting whales with harpoons and leaving them to struggle for an hour or more before they die or are hacked apart while they are still alive—may seem like something out of the history books, but this bloody industry still goes on today in the face of international condemnation, and it’s disgraceful for any game to glorify it. PETA encourages video game companies to create games that celebrate animals—not games that promote hurting and killing them.

PETA gets mad about everything. Normal people don't give a shit what PETA thinks. Are PETA members having Moby Dick book burning parties?

Well, I just got more incentive to buy it. Create YouTube videos of my torturing of digital whales for hours too Ouya of Peta members.

It's a f#@*ing game, unless you know a Norwegan that has a whaling ship they have for sale around $10, I don't think this will be as easy as losing your mind, raiding grandpa's gun cabinet, and going postal.

And that's rich, coming from a charity that destroys most of the animals it "rescues".

PETA's killed 30,000 animals in the past 10 years without making an attempt to adopt them. STFU PETA.

PETA can suck a dick. Seriously, these guys will bitch about whaling in a video game then euthanize thousands of animals...

I think PETA needs to find some women again and strip in protest like they normally do..

Clearly they never played Far Cry 3, killing and skinning all those animals was pretty intense.

Anyone know if PETA wants all copies Moby Dick to be burned? Because...you know....90% of the book reads like a how-to on whaling....

PETA put animal rights back decades every time they do anything. I wouldn't be surprised if they were a front for some other company. They almost single handedly make animal rights a joke in the US with their stupid. :p

I think PETA is a PR firm

Announce AC4. Gamings sites pick it up. Mention you have whaling

Fast forward one day. PETA angry! AC4 mentioned all over mainstream news

Profit.

Can't everyone learn to ignore PETA and the NRA? Definitely the WBC, too.

It's almost funny how PETA seems to constantly undermine their own credibility by taking ridiculous stances on nonissues.

It is a little humorous when a group focuses on one small aspect of a game like violence against an animal, but couldnt care less about the violence against other human beings lol.

Exactly... If you had a game and wanted a bunch of publicity I'd first of all have you shooting someone tied up, then tell Fox news, then have you shoot their horse, and tell PETA... It would be known by everyone overnight...

That might be true. I've recently started playing Far Cry, I know I'm late, and skinning and gutting is part of the game play. Also, in Tomb Raider, you're required to hunt to survive. LOL I don't know why I'm getting carried away with this news.

PETA, ELF, Greenpeace and all of the other eco-terrorist organizations need to take a long walk off of a short pier for the good of the planet.

Clearly the solution is to put some PETA whaling blockade ships in the game. Oh, and allow the whaling ships to ram and sink them.

Problem solved. :D

Sea Shepherd should come up with a game that puts you at the helm of M/V Bob Barker, ramming the **** out of Japanese whalers in the Southern Ocean.

They need to stop talking altogether and just go back to photos of naked celebrities. :)

It's too bad, because PETA has a good cause, but they make themselves look retarded when they do this crap.

They should perhaps concentrate on REAL whaling, not video games...

Ouya ..wtf at that auto correct lol.. piss off.

lol @ Dekoth

Back on topic:

Seriously though, the statement is more of a "no duh" type thing.
It seemed really rather sober and straight forward.

I'm sure they could have gone overboard (no pun intended haha) and tried to demonize the game and the industry, but they didn't. They just made a rather drama free general statement about not torturing animals and encouraged the games industry to not glorify the infliction of pain and suffering on a bunch of dumb animals who haven't done anything to deserve it.

Ya, they are normally a bunch of annoying wacko hippies, but no so much in this last statement.

Now excuse me while I go off to a different sort of PETA meeting, People Eating Tastey Animals!

Also, who's to say that PETA and Ubisoft aren't in cahoots here trying to stir up the media for a little extra free press?

People Eating Tasty Animals, it's the organization I'm a proud CEO of, you guys can pick up your membership cards at the door.

I'll be playing AC4 and enjoying the hell out of whaling just because i know it pisses someone off.

If 14-yo girls had more $$, we'd all be speaking Vegan. So send a big check to IBP or Simplot, or just eat @ MickeyD's as often as you can, to fight for your Rights!!

Modders would make it so you can ram whales. ;)

Whales are easy to ram IRL. You just chase them until they're so winded, all they can do is lay up on the surface. Then you just bust'em with a hundred-tonner, and go looking for the next bunch. Giggling like Joe Dirt.

Their statement don't bother me, but I do find it funny when folks here get their panties in wad over their opinions.
