Ikea desk gallery

Been looking for a suitable option from Ikea for awhile. This is great! Should last forever. I am going to get a 186cm top, with the draw and storage unit :D Thanks for sharing.

this is an excellent option.

inexpensive, 35$ for the oil and sealant which will make it last significantly longer i mean this thing will last me years. the butcher block will out live the table legs.

for 260$ that is unbelievable.

I can tell you too that the thing is sturdy as shit man. i could jump up and down on this thing and it would be fine. before i get my new place ill probably have my tv up on it as well. like i said should be all set up tonight and i will post pictures :D

Very nice, I'll keep this in mind for our next move/office upgrade.

This is actually very important information. I have the long Vika Amon holding up two of my 3007's, and add in me adding pressure to the front-middle of the table, I feel it's starting to buckle a bit. Adding on a Gallant fram might help, but the table may already be bent too much for that to even be a good option. Either way, it should hold for at least another year (if not longer).

sorry for the picture quality, my DSLR usb cable is down and I am waiting for a new one.

this isnt the greatest angle either cause it makes it look short Im actually standing on my bed.

but to give you an idea of how giant this desk is.. thats a 40 inch tv on the right and a 27 inch monitor in the center hahah.

this thing is gigantic.

i love it though. spacious and clean looking. the wax and tung oil makes it look even better.

more detailed pictures soon

Hey dremic - Are the white holders attached to the butcher block? If not, is the weight of the block enough to prevent slippage? And do you plan on attaching them? if it is attached, how difficult was it to do?

All I see you missing is some cable management, getting that rig off the carpet, and some decorations for the wall. Looking very sharp. I was thinking of going with a big-ass Gallant for my future office, but now I'm reconsidering going with a double butcher-block set. Only time will tell...

Go with the butcher's block. Given the difference in cost between desks of equivalent size and quality, it's a no-brainer. If you ever get tired of it as a desk, then it can easily be repurposed into shop worktables or a number of other things.

hey Pezzy

no they arent attached. the table legs come with little rubber stoppers that work great, the butcher block is also considerably heavy and will not budge whatsoever. The damn thing is extremely sturdy. there is little to no reason to attaching them anyways, as that would make getting it into places nearly impossible considering its length.

hope this helps.

i will post some pictures taken with my DSLR tomorrow now that I have my usb cable

Giggity.

Seriously though, thanks for sharing so much info, I think I'll be replacing my cheap side table with something like this sometime soon. Looking forward to pics.

Did you do anything to the counter top (they come with oil pre-applied), or using it as is?

No problem! setting a reminder to upload the pictures after work. ( I am a forgetful person )

It doesnt come with any finish on it. which makes sense considering how inexpensive it is.

I have literally no wood working knowledge and was able to finish it easily within two days.

tung oil is about 20-30$ for a can, one can is enough for three coats especially if youre putting on enough of it. polish wax sealant is another 10 dollars or so. definitely worth it to apply these to the wood though, considering it will extend its life considerably. preventing stains etc, i eat at my computer a lot so spills happen for me.

After having my galant with T legs for two weeks now, I wish i got the butchers block instead. With my three ergotron arms it's very wobbley

Sell it on Craigslist and buy the butcher's block. If there's not an Ikea in your city, then you'll likely be able to get close to what you paid for it.

unfortunately the lens that i got with my canon t3i is a 50mm and it is too zoomed in for a desk this size.. i literally couldnt snap a picture of half of it haha. :(

i am moving in a week or so and will try to get some then :) let me know if you guys have any more questions !! i also did lots of research on how to apply the wax and tung oil too so if you have questions in that regard lmk

My small 2013 update. Added artwork, raised the displays up a little, 9" USB display, sorry for the mess ;)

What is the height clearance on those white holder/legs, seems like there is very little clearance to get your legs under the block comfortably without hitting your knees/thighs on the block each time you sit down or stand.

Its 70cm. Most of the other legs are the same.
